"Bookronpa is pretty cool"
Kastor, "Bookronpa: A Confounding Stay at Kastor's Country Club"

Bookronpa is a Danganronpa roleplay with a twist; all of the characters are not human, but instead anthropomorphized books. This doesn't make them any less impervious to death, however, as becomes apparent when they're forced to kill each other in a deadly game.

It is hosted on Discord and has been completed.

Atlaua Kersey

Ultimate Fisherman

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/atlaua_3.png
"Eh, the embarrassment should give way eventually. Even if people keep talking about it, you get used to it, y'know? I remember I goofed real bad on my first fishing competition. The village still doesn't let me live it down."

When a corporation tried to stifle his entire village's spirit and turn them into profit-churning slaves, Atlaua refused to let it interfere with his love of the sport. He sought out underground fishing competitions and thrived there, becoming a champion of the seas. The least likely to get pop culture references.

Atlaua is one of the two victims in Chapter 3, killed by Soren Oleander.

  • Dying Moment of Awesome: He was killed while trying to protect Dexter. In his last moments, he tried to trace Soren's cover design onto his face in ink.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: When Soren attacked him and Dexter, Atlaua tried to fend Soren off so Dexter could run. He died while doing so.
  • Meaningful Name: He's named after a water god.
  • Straight Man: He's one of the more normal Club Members. The creators confirm that he's the only straight character in Bookronpa.

Choriu Kuga

Ultimate Ornithologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/choriu.png
"Well, I guess t-teenagers these days like discussing their social lives, or chatting about their favorite things, or murdering each other in cold blood, or-"
Your average happy-go-lucky do-gooder that has a lot of knowledge and compassion for birds. He has a pet penguin named Pingi who will be accompanying him to Kastor's Country Club, who he loves like his own child. The likeliest to spend over an hour a day feeding ducks.

Choriu is the Chapter 1 victim, killed by McQueen.

  • Shoulder Teammate: Pingi. Later, Luna the owl spends a lot of time with them.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Choriu was the first victim of a murder. This is subverted somewhat by his focus in the afterlife.

Dexter Hopkins/Rainne Hopkins

Ultimate Stage Magician

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dexter_7.png
"LADIES AND GENTLEBOOKS! MAGIC! MYSTERY! ABSOLUTE SPLENDOR! For the first time, in front of your incredibly lucky eyes...BEHOLD!"

The self-christened The Amazing, Talented (and Incredibly Dexterous) Dexter, Dexter if you’re pedestrian and Dex if you aren’t even trying, as you can imagine, likes himself a lot, and so do his audiences! He’s easily spooked when it comes to things being outside of his control, or when blood enters the picture. It’s a shame he doesn’t have more than two rabbits under his ornate hat, as far as intelligence goes. The most likely to fake an illness.

Dexter is one of the two victims in Chapter 3, killed by Soren Oleander.

  • Living a Double Life: Before Dexter went by his current name, he robbed banks with his partner in crime Mace (literally, since they were boyfriends) under his real name, Rainne. After Mace was arrested, Dexter was forced to take on a new identity in order to prevent his own arrest.
  • Magicians Are Wizards: In Chapter 3, Dexter reveals that he has telekinesis and the ability to teleport himself- which he used both for his talent and...robbing banks.
  • Punny Name: His last name is "Hopkins," referencing the fact that Stage Magicians use rabbits in their acts.
  • Shipper on Deck: Teases Takatobi and Tetly when sparks start to fly between them.
  • Signature Headgear: Dexter always wears his purple magician hat wherever he goes! That is, except to the afterlife. Good thing Xenith brought it with him.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Even though Dexter loves to boast about how marvelous he is, no one in the country club recognizes him outside of the game.

Kinzoku Ayatsuri

Ultimate Puppeteer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kinzoku_7.png
"Every time I even think about this god-damn game I just...g-get ANGRY!! Ruining this HELL of a game would be a pleasure to me!"

Kinzoku has a monstrous temper and wears a glove to protect his fist when he punches walls in anger. He strongly believes that books work best with leaders. The most likely to have road rage.

Kinzoku is the Chapter 4 killer, and is executed via "Kinzoku's Grand Finale".

  • Byronic Hero: To a degree! Kinzoku has a tough time making friends, but is still a good person at heart.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Has his wrists and ankles tied to puppet strings and was swung around until his neck broke.
  • Hand Puppet: He often uses these for his shows.
  • More Hero than Thou: Both him and Concordia were willing to put their lives on the line to escape, but in the end Kinzoku sacrificed himself without Concordia's knowledge by making F1337 take cyanide instead of sleeping pills.
  • You Are What You Hate: Kinzoku hates killers, but becomes one. Fitting, because he hates himself.

Takatobi Boeibureka

Ultimate Libero Formerly

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/takitobi.png
"Well, uh, I don't really...think, half of the time. But I'm sure things'll be fine. You've got me, after all. An' after that, I don't think you'll be complainin'."

The one and only Takatobi knows he’s one awesome volleyball player, and he wants everyone to know it! He’s arrogant, brash, and in-your-face about pretty much everything, and will act without thinking, even if it makes him look like a jerk (and it often does make him look like a jerk). He’s very tall relative to other books, and uses it to his advantage. Probably the most tired of being asked “how’s the weather up there?”.

Takatobi survives the killing game. He is living in a shared apartment with Tetly and Julian, and visited McQueen's family after the killing game concluded.

Tetly Mendoza

Ultimate Calligraphist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tetly.png
"I just need to fuckin' do something right now, I guess. I need to work, n' keep busy. I can't just be left in the quiet with my fuckin' brain, I can't deal with that."

Tetly has the demeanor of someone who’s constantly running late for an important meeting: snappy and impatient, with a slightly tense posture. Still, he can certainly be lauded for his lack of dawdling. Has the neatest handwriting.

Tetly survived the killing game. He currently lives in a shared apartment with Takatobi and Julian and is no longer working for his stepfather.

  • The Mafia: He reveals to Athina and Takatobi in Chapter 5 that he's been working for the mafia as a forger for a significant portion of his life. In that chapter's trial, Amber exposes him for having a criminal past.

Xenith Nadeer

Ultimate Forensic Investigator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/xenith.png
“Hmmm... sadness... perhaps I did feel that. Mainly because water fell out of my eyes. Sad people tend to do that.”

A book hardly touched by murder and the gruesome, it makes sense that he'd dedicate his life to criminal justice. He works long hours to gather and collect evidence to bring bad guys to justice. The least likely to cry at weddings.

Xenith is one of two Chapter 5 victims, killed by Eve Liedgenwiel.

    Female Club Members

Amber Greenhorn

Ultimate Horticulturist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amber_7.png
“I can still see good in all of ‘em, like you prob'ly can, Lord... I want them t’be on my good side, and I wanna be on their good sides, too... we ain’t gonna get through this if we ain’t in it all together.”

After she lost her father, she went on a soul-searching journey through a deep forest to figure out what to do with her life. After a fateful encounter with a green rosebush, she decided to plant a beautiful garden in his memory. Nowadays, that garden is one of the largest and best-maintained in the world. The most likely to wake up before sunrise.

Amber survived the killing game. She is currently traveling the world, planting flowers in memorium for the deceased club members.

  • Fertile Feet: Chapter 3's motive reveals that Amber has the magical ability to increase the growth of plants. Temporarily turns into Walking Wasteland in Chapter 5, when her distress over Evian's death causes the grass to wilt beneath her.
  • Nice Girl: One of the nicest people in the cast.
  • Sanctuary of Solitude: Played with. While there isn't a church in the country club, in the early days of the killing game, Amber occasionally goes into her room to pray to God and ask for his protection.

Athina Hartmann

Ultimate Badminton Star

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/athina.png
"Lives at stake or not, it's still a game. And I fully intend on winning it."

Never one to take kindly to being overshadowed, Athina goes out of her way to stand out at every turn. She wants to prove to both herself and the world that she’s far better than the previous “Ultimate” Badminton player, a personal rival of sorts. The one who hates showoffs the most.

Athina survived the killing game. She has mended her relationship with Minerva, and they now play badminton together.

  • Defrosting Ice Queen: Over the course of the game, Athina's gradually worked towards overcoming her fear of showing weakness, mostly thanks to Callie's influence.
  • Improperly Paranoid: The irrational blame she puts on herself for her sister's circumstances causes her to irrationally believe everyone is or will be out to get her for it, and that in turn only further leads her into her downwards spiral of irrational thinking.
  • It's All My Fault: Despite the numerous circumstances leading to the early end of her sister's career, Athina firmly believes she was the main cause, and her catastrophizing of the situation only worsens her well-being.
  • Second Love: She's the second girl Callie has been with, and while they aren't explicitly in a romantic relationship, their bond is going strong as of Chapter 6.
  • Solar and Lunar: She and her twin Minerva's cover designs resemble the sun and moon respectively.
  • Theme Twin Naming: Athina and Minerva; the Greek and Roman equivalents of the same goddess.

Callie Star

Ultimate eSports Player

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/callie_6.png

Her encouraging words and pep have filled her eSports teammates with determination that’s helped win a-many games. Outside of competitions, she’s a popular streamer under the name of _st4r; her likable personality and sense of humor have endeared her to many watchers. The most likely to want to hold someone's hand.

Callie is the Chapter 6 killer, and is executed via "Game Over".

  • The Needs of the Many: Sacrifices herself by killing Kastor, even though she knows she'll be executed for it, if it means that the rest of her friends will be able to leave the country club safely without any trouble.

Eve Liedgenwiel

Ultimate Sleep Therapist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eve_16.png
"I. Avoid thinking during the day. Or at least heavy thinking. I have time at night for that. There's nothing to distract me then."

An insomniac who seems unaffected by the world, handling even unpleasant things with a slight smile. Her greatest talent is to help others find the sleep she struggles to find. The most likely to feel lonely at night.

Eve is the Chapter 5 killer, and is executed via "The Bedtime Story".

  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Forced to read a bedtime story to an unruly child who rips her apart and turns her into a nightlight.
  • Nice Girl: She's generally personable and nice when she is around.
  • Really Fond of Sleeping: So fond, in fact, that she killed to bring it to those she cared about.
  • Sleep Deprivation: She helps people overcome this, despite struggling with it herself.

Funnygamermemes1337

Ultimate Hacker

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fleet.png
"HELLO EVERYONE!!! Please make sure to gaze at my EXTREMELY RARE PRESENCE, as you are all lucky enough to be graced by me, the number one YouTuber and media influencer, FUNNYGAMERMEMES1337!"

If you’ve been on YouTube before, chances are you recognize this name! Funnygamermemes1337 (pronounced “funny gamer memes leet,” and abbreviated F1337, thank you very much)! She has about a bajillion views, and a gazillion subscribers, all only earned through her amazing acumen for hacking. The most likely to get petty revenge.

Fleet is the Chapter 4 victim, killed by Kinzoku Ayatsuri.

  • Character Development: She learns to be kinder as the game goes on, and sets out to make up for her less moral actions in Chapter 4.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Played with. She won her and Atlaua's fishing contest by cheating, but nobody believed her victory was genuine. Then she got her glasses snatched by Atlaua and his friends.
  • Cool Shades: She dons a distinctive pair of purple, heart-shaped ones.
  • Large Ham: She's very dramatic and emphatic when she talks.
  • Speak Ill of the Dead: F1337 has shown complete disregard for corpses and often talks about them as if it was their own fault for being killed.
  • Techno Wizard: What her talent implies. She was even able to hack Xenith in Chapter 4.
  • There Is No Kill Like Overkill: After she dies of cyanide poisoning, F1337 is then stabbed in the back and chainsawed in three pieces.

Shila

Ultimate Dog-Sled Racer

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/shila.png
"...I don't know what I did. ...Kastor's just my friend. ...You defend friends. ...Why was everybody accusing me? ...Is this gonna be like home again?"

A well-known dog sled racer hailing from Akiachak, Alaska, Shila is as quiet as the snowy expanses she’s accustomed to. She takes everything rather seriously and is chilly in how she regards others. Still, it’s clear she has a great deal of warmth in her heart for her team of dogs! Heavens knows they’ve been more there for her than the books in her life. In fact, one of her dogs, her greatest companion Miska, will be joining her here! The most likely to think dogs should vote.

Shila is the Chapter 2 victim, killed by Origen.

    Nonbinary Club Members

Concordia Tallyrand

Ultimate Mediator

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/concordia.png
"I'll remind you as many times as you wish, McQueen. I settle arguments and make sure no fighting is going on, but in times of peace I like it when everyone is happy."

She saved her two fathers' marriage by realizing that she could help them talk through it. Thence, she realized her true talent: helping people work through their conflicts with each other. The most likely to accept barter as payment.

Concordia survives the killing game. She now runs a grief counseling business.

  • Karma Houdini: Concordia's plot directly led to Kinzoku and F1337 getting executed in Chapter 4. She didn't get executed because she didn't land the final blow, is all. As of the end of Chapter 5, they still haven't died despite being the most hated among the remaining Club Members.
  • Manipulative Bastard: Exhibited shades of this when they tormented Tandy, then did this in the extreme during Chapter 4. They got F1337 to hack into Xenith, and used him to chainsaw her to pieces. They even got Kinzoku to serve as an accomplice, though he outsmarted them in the end.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Only realizes she feels sorrow for the horrible crimes she has committed once she has been repeatedly beaten down. From that point on, they try to make up for their actions with varying degrees of success.

McQueen/Princess McQueen

Ultimate Mathematician

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mcqueen_6.png
"I'm really handsome! And good at math! Please compliment me."

A friendly, trusting little guy! Numbers were there for him when nobody else was; he's practiced with them so much that he can do complex math in his head no problem. He likes talking about his talent and how great he thinks he is a lot. The likeliest to have a favorite number.

McQueen is the Chapter 1 killer, and is executed via "Four Functions".

  • The Cutie: McQueen prides himself on his cuteness, and brings it up quite a few times in discussions.
  • The Ditz: To put it bluntly, he is not very smart in any subject unrelated to mathematics.

Origen

Ultimate Angelologist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/origen.png
"The wings are to emulate the divine aesthetic I try to uphold. And although perhaps a bit tedious to care for at times, I am used to it and I believe it is worth it."

Once a bored kid sitting in a Catholic school, Origen ultimately found a passion and obsession in the religious texts they had initially only tolerated. They know just about everything there is to know about angels and demons, and takes guidance from that which they've learned. The most likely to smile, knowing that this, too, shall pass.

Origen is the Chapter 2 killer, and is executed via "Angel of Punishment".

  • Dragged Off to Hell: Origen goes most of their execution thinking they're going to ascend to heaven until the tables are flipped on them, and a crack forms in the ground to reveal hell below. They are quickly dragged down and never seen again by the survivors.
  • Knight Templar: They kill so they can meet their supposed destiny of saving the world.
  • Light Is Not Good: Despite their holy motif, they're quick to commit murder for their own personal gain.

Soren Printz/Soren Oleander

Ultimate Linguist

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/soren_4.png
"I cherish spirits. That's all you deserve to know, really."

Soren’s words have a deliberate quality to them: he tends to think carefully before speaking. It makes sense that he would recognize how powerful they are, considering how deeply he’s thrown himself into his studies. He faces most things with coolness and tackles them with “creative wrath.” The most likely to believe in ghost stories.

Soren was the Chapter 3 killer, and was executed via "Princely Punishment".

  • Curse Escape Clause: Played with. Soren believes he is infected by a curse, and that the only way to rid himself of it is to kill two people. Where he got that idea from, no one knows.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • "Oleander" is the name of a poisonous fruit. Fitting, considering that he commits a double murder.
    • His cover name, Soren Printz, was also foreshadowing for him being...well, an actual prince.
  • Punny Name: Soren's last name early in the game was Printz. He was revealed to be royalty later on - Printz, prince.

    Club Board of Directors

Kastor Goodweather

Ultimate Gentlemanly Host

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kastor.jpg
“Greetings and hello, folks! I’d like to honorably welcome you to this club, on behalf of the board of directors. My name is Kastor, and I’m pleased to see that all of you have arrived here safely.”

Kastor is the owner of Kastor's Country Club. He's a friendly book, always trying to make things better for his beloved guests and friends, and can often be found on the green with a golf club in hand. He's also the host of the killing game - which he tries his best to make fun for everyone.

Kastor is the Chapter 6 victim, killed by Callie Star.

  • Crowd Pleaser: He wants the killing game to be as comfortable for everyone else as possible, so he goes out of his way to give folks what they want.
  • Murder by Inaction: He stood by without interfering in Choriu's murder as McQueen clubbed the Ornithologist to death.

Nevada

Board of Directors

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nevada.jpg
“Mighty swell to meet y’all! The name’s Nevada, an’ I run these here stables!”

Nevada's your classic, rough-n'-tumble cowboy, with the drawl to match. He's known to spend a lot of his time patrolling the stables, which happens to be the part of the country club that he runs. He prides himself in being its "Sheriff," and is rarely found far from it. He's a pretty laid-back kind of guy as long as you don't intentionally provoke him. Maybe even he'll tell you a probably-fake, tough-sounding story about his past adventures if you're nice. The most likely to skip a meal.

Nevada survives with all the other Board of Directors. He moved to a ranch in the mountain with his horses and has attempted to invite the survivors over for a barbecue, to no avail.

  • Cowboy: He wears a cowboy hat and tends the farm animals.

Angel

Board of Directors

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angel_1.png
"We also offer all kinds of drinks one could imagine over there! I won't be serving any right now, though. I wanna know more 'bout y'all first, y'know?"

Angel's a huge fan of chilling, which he can do a lot as a manager of the rec-n-relaxation area of the country club. As one of the top-ten smoothie makers in the world, his drinks are the bomb! He knows all sorts of things about fruits and how to maximize how flavorful they are. Don't expect him to be quite as sweet as his drinks, though. Unlike his co-manager and twin sister, he can be very sassy...

Angel survives with all the other Board of Directors. He and Spirit bought a pontoon party boat and run a small cruise business together.

Bookronpa contains examples of:

  • Animate Inanimate Object: All of the characters are anthropomorphized books.
  • Beware the Nice Ones:
    • Kastor himself is very friendly, but apparently making people kill each other isn't past him.
    • This is present with several killers. McQueen was the first culprit of a murder. Right after him, it was Origen.
  • Black Blood: Played with. The books bleed ink. Most of the books so far have bled blue or purple.
  • Body of the Week: In every chapter, at least one person dies.

  • Empathic Environment: The Afterlife tends to have inclement weather whenever new people show up.
  • Everyone Is a Suspect: The aim of each trial is to correctly identify the culprit.
  • Face Death with Dignity:
    • Most of the killers so far have accepted their fate calmly.
    • Subverted with McQueen, who fell down a flight of stairs in his final moment.
  • Famed In-Story: All of the Club Members are famous in their fields.
    • funnygamermemes1337 idolized Callie before they ever came to the country club. In fact, f1337 used her hacking skills to guarantee her idol victory in the mailing contest.
    • Callie had a crush on Athina before ever meeting her due to admiring her.
  • Gilded Cage: Kastor's Country Club would be a great place to be, if it weren't for the killing game.

    • Chapter Four: Kinzoku killed F1337 out of hatred for himself, and to keep Concordia from getting away with it.
  • What Did I Do Last Night?:
    • Notably happened in Chapter 4, when Xenith came to in the middle of chainsawing F1337's body into thirds.
