The Three Mages

    General
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_three_mages_by_purfectprincessgirl_dca3lcx_pre.jpg

Three misfits who banded together to form a tightknit group.

  • Action Girl: They might not look, but all three of them are capable combatants. Especially Aevri.
  • All of the Other Reindeer: The girls were outcasts at school for the following reasons:
    • Prym, for being poor and having dark magic.
    • Aevri, for being grumpy and brash when Healer Mages are expected to be sweet and demure.
    • Tula, for being incredibly skinny when Strength Mages tend to be big and bulky.
  • Amazon Brigade: A three-member version of one.
  • Beauty, Brains, and Brawn: While they're all easy on the eyes, Prym takes the role as the beauty, Aevri, being a bit more analytical, is the brains, and Tula is the brawn.
  • Generation Xerox: School Year Reminiscing reveals that Prym's father Luka, Aevri's father Liu, and Tula's father Ivor were all friends and went to the same school their daughters would attend. The girls even inherited the same powers as their fathers.
  • In the Hood: They all wear hooded mage outfits.
  • Kid Hero: Averted. All three of them are legal adults (18).
  • Wake Up, Go to School & Save the World: Averted. They have already graduated from school.
  • Walking the Earth: After graduating, they formed a mage group and started traveling the world to go on adventures.

    Prym

Prym Fletcher

The prim and somewhat haughty leader of the group. Prym has dark magic and proves that her magic does not hinder her progress as a Mage.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Since the world of The Three Mages takes place in another world apart from Earth, the characters don't have Earth ethnicities, but Word of God says Prym would be (half) black.
  • Berserk Button: Prym doesn't like magicians, calling them "mage wannabes" because she feels that they make the hard work that real mages put into their magic look like child's play.
  • Big Ol' Eyebrows: Her eyebrows are noticeably thick.
  • Casting a Shadow: As a Dark Mage, Prym has power over darkness and shadows...
  • Dark Is Not Evil: ...but is no less a benevolent person.
  • Determinator: Prym's stubbornness also makes her very strong-willed and determined.
  • Disappeared Dad: Prym's father died when she was very young.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Inverted. Tula's Visit shows that Prym isn't good with dogs, especially not with big ones like Bear.
  • The Leader: Of the group.
  • Master of Illusion: Prym has the ability to create illusions.
  • Meaningful Name: Prym's name is derived from the word "prim", meaning "prim and proper" and "prissy". Fitting for such a classy and haughty mage.
  • Necromancy: Dark Mages have the ability to raise the dead, though it is considered taboo and Prym has no interest in doing such a thing.
  • Perky Goth: Prym is fond of gothic clothing and can be rather playful.
  • Power Incontinence: Prym is afraid of losing control of her powers and hurting someone.
  • Pride: Prym can be pretty prideful and it takes a lot for her to admit when she's wrong.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Prym's outfit, eye color, aura color, and the color of her mana stone are purple and she certainly is no slouch in battle.
  • Rich Bitch: Inverted. Prym came from a rather poor background, living in the forest in a cottage with her mother, but is a nice person.
  • Ship Tease: With Rosabel. As much as Rosabel protests to Prym's flirty advances, it's clear she doesn't mind.
  • Sweet Tooth: Prym's absolute favorite treat is pie.
Tula: "Hehe, well I don't mind pie... but I'm not that huge of a fan like Prym is~"
Aevri: "Pfft, I'll say~ She'd eat a whole tin of it and then ask for seconds."
  • The Tease: To her school rival Rosabel. These days, however, their rivalry is one-sided on Rosabel's part who likes to pick fights with Prym whenever they come across each other. Prym gets out of these fights or ends them quickly by flirting with Rosabel and making her incredibly flustered to the point where she relents.
  • Youthful Freckles: Prym's got some freckles on her cheeks, just below her eyes.

    Aevri

Aevri Ren

The stubborn and grumpy healer of the group, Aevri uses her healing and defense powers to support her team.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Since the world of The Three Mages takes place in another world apart from Earth, the characters don't have Earth ethnicities, but Word of God says Aevri would be Chinese.
  • Barrier Warrior: Deviating from the traditions of Healing and Defense Mages, Aevri uses her shields for defense and as offensive weapons by using them as discs to slice people in half.
  • Big Sister Worship: Aevri used to admire her older sister Elody, but over the years that seems to have faded.
  • Brutal Honesty: Can be pretty harsh with her words.
  • Hates Being Alone: Aevri's biggest fear is being alone.
  • Healing Hands: Has healing powers, but her skills aren't at the level of her sister's, much to her chagrin.
  • Like Mother, Unlike Daughter: Aevri and her mother Mei had a distant relationship due to Aevri being tough and stubborn, and Mei being poised and calm.
  • Meaningful Name: Aevri's name is derived from the name "Avery" which translates to “wisdom/counsel”, fitting for the rational and down-to-earth Aevri.
  • The Medic: Being the team's healer, this is a given. It also crosses with Combat Medic.
  • Music Soothes the Savage Beast: While she's a little embarrassed about it, Aevri has a really pretty singing voice that also happens to be able to soothe animals.
  • My Nayme Is: "Aevri" instead of "Avery".
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: When her older sister showed her prowess for healing, their parents showered her with attention and paid little to no attention to Aevri, leaving her feeling bitter and insecure that she could never measure up to her sister.
  • Parental Abandonment: Aevri's parents recently passed, leaving her with only her sister. It doesn't bother her though.
  • Ship Tease: With Kain in Village Encounters.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Aevri's stubborn, brash, and quick to anger, while her sister Elody is sweet, gentle, and demure.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: Differences About Fathers implies that she desperately wanted her parents' attention and approval.

    Tula

Tula Valma

The sweet and optimistic brawn of the group, Tula has strength magic that allows her to perform incredible feats that belie her skinny frame.

  • Ambiguously Brown: Since the world of The Three Mages takes place in another world apart from Earth, the characters don't have Earth ethnicities, but Word of God says Tula would be Indian.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Tula can be easily distracted by the tiniest of things.
  • The Big Gal: Subverted. Being a Strength Mage, Tula's the muscle, but she has the skinniest physique of the group.
  • Cute Bruiser: Is very adorable and at the same time could beat you to a pulp.
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: Tula... often has trouble holding onto things and often dropped potions in class during her school years.
  • Daddy's Girl: Has a close relationship with her father, Ivor, who just dotes on her.
  • Does Not Know Her Own Strength: Tula's hugs can be a little... suffocating when she's not paying attention.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Tula has a big, affectionate dog named Bear.
  • Maternal Death? Blame the Child!: Averted. Tula's mother Milana died not too long after her birth, but her father doesn't hold it against her at all and gives her nothing but love.
  • Meaningful Name: Tula was named after the tulip flower and tulips are often associated with charity. Furthermore, Tula's aura color is orange and orange tulips are associated with happiness, energy, and enthusiasm.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Tula's incredibly scrawny, but is more than capable of beating down monsters and enemies due to her magic.
  • Missing Mom: Tula's mother died after she was born.
  • Irony: The brawn of the group who could smash boulders is a scrawny Cute Bruiser.
  • Shipper on Deck: In A 'Bewitching' Observation, Tula expresses support for Prym and Rosabel's potential romance.
Tula: "D'aww, don't be so shy, Miss Rose! I think it's sweet that you want to impress Prym... I knew you two were meant to be~"
  • Ship Tease: With Elas. This Valentine's Day card only added more fuel to the fire.
  • Skilled, but Naive: Tula is a skilled Mage, but as a result of her sheltered upbringing, there’s still a lot that she has yet to fully understand about how certain things work in the world and she can be too trusting of strangers’ input.
  • Super-Strength: As a Strength Mage, Tula has the ability to summon magical gauntlets to augment her strength.
