The King
King Grayle

The stern and enigmatic King of Graystone, and the father of two frequently bickering sons. King Grayle is a mage with dark magic.

- Casting a Shadow: The King is a Dark Mage and has the ability to control darkness and shadows.
- Cigarette of Anxiety: King Grayle used to have a smoking habit due to stress, but he is trying to cut back now.
- Dark Is Not Evil: In spite of his intimidating nature and dark magic, King Grayle is a responsible ruler and good father to his sons.
- The Faceless: King Grayle's face is never shown.
- The Good King: Stern and aloof he may be, but he runs his kingdom fairly.
- Good Parents: Cares deeply for his two sons and wants to keep them safe from harm like any parent would.
- Master of Illusion: As a Dark Mage, The King can generate illusions and is fond of using them in combat.
- Muggle–Mage Romance: The King (a Dark Mage) and his first wife, Elianne (non-magical human).
- No Name Given: The King's first name is unknown and is often referred to as "King Grayle".
- Perfectly Arranged Marriage: With Elianne. While they had no romantic interest in each other, they both saw each other as friends and The King was crushed when Elianne died.
- Purple Is Powerful: Much of The King's appearance is shrouded in shadows or concealed in armor, but judging by the color of his purple mana stone, his aura color is purple. Purple is also the color of royalty. Fitting for a powerful mage king.
- Reasonable Authority Figure: King Grayle proves not only that he's a fair ruler, but a fair parent as well. In Caught and Dangerous, King Grayle scolds his younger son Kain for running away from home to be a stage magician as it was irresponsible behavior both as a prince and as his son. But, he also chastises his older son Elas for dragging Kain aside during his performance to persuade him to come back home instead of waiting until after.
- Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Gender inverted. The King's type of woman is someone of "high morals, intellect, strength, and a good heart".
- Youngest Child Wins: The King was the youngest of three brothers and only became king when his two older brothers died in battle.
Elas

The firstborn son of King Grayle and the Crown Prince of Graystone. Elas is a mage with fire magic.
- Ambiguously Brown: Since the world of The Three Mages takes place in another world apart from Earth, the characters don't have Earth ethnicities, but
Word of God says Elas would be Greek/Middle-Eastern. - Big Ol' Eyebrows: Elas has thick eyebrows.
- Control Freak: Elas admits to being a control freak at times, though he really doesn't mean to be.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Elas, the calm and dutiful young man, is the Responsible to his rebellious and arrogant brother Kain's Foolish. It's because of his responsible nature that he was chosen as the crown prince.
- Neat Freak: Elas absolutely abhors untidiness and cannot stand to see a room out of order. And it doesn't help that Kain is apparently legendarily messy.
- Playing with Fire: As a Fire Mage, Elas has the ability to generate flames, his being blue in color.
- Ship Tease: With Tula. This Valentine's Day card
only added more fuel to the fire. - Sibling Rivalry: With his younger brother, Kain. Breaking up their arguments is one of King Grayle's greatest responsibilities.
- Sibling Yin-Yang: Elas is humble, calm, and a gentleman, while Kain is an arrogant, hotheaded showoff.
- Strong Family Resemblance: To his late mother, Elianne, sharing the same blond hair and blue eyes.
- Terrified of Germs: Elas does not want to get sick and fears anything that could make that happen. Him coughing or sniffling fills him with anxiety.
- The Wise Prince: Elas is an honorable, kind, and gentlemanly young man who takes his royal responsibilities very seriously, in contrast to his brother, Kain, who ran away to be a performer.

The second-born son of King Grayle and a Prince of Graystone. Kain is a mage with crystal magic.
- Ambiguously Brown: Since the world of The Three Mages takes place in another world apart from Earth, the characters don't have Earth ethnicities, but Word of God says Kain would be Greek/Italian.
- Attention Whore: For his acts, he likes to challenge the fiercest beasts to get people's attention (though the crowd mostly stays in the hopes that an arrogant guy like him will get some comeuppance).
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Kain, the rebellious and arrogant young man, is the Foolish to his calm and dutiful brother Elas's Responsible. It's because of Elas' more responsible nature that he was chosen to be the crown prince over Kain.
- Gemstone Assault: As a Crystal Mage, Kain can control and generate crystals, his being red.
- Inferiority Superiority Complex: Because he wasn't deemed fit to be chosen as the crown heir, Kain felt that his father had no use for him so he ran away from home to become a performer, using his arrogance to draw people in and get attention. Caught and Dangerous reveals that he harbors some insecurity over the fact that his mother turned her back on them for money.
- Magicians Are Wizards: He is a mage with real magic who performs as a stage magician.

- Trash of the Titans: According to Elas, Kain's room is incredibly messy, and Kain himself doesn't deny it.
- Parental Neglect: Kain's mother Lady Sienna neglected him when he was a little boy, preferring to party with socialites instead of caring for her son. It's because of this neglect that Kain chooses not to form serious relationships with women.
- Rebel Prince: Kain is a hothead and arrogant young man who ran away from home to become a stage magician, in contrast to his brother, Elas, who is acting as king while their father is away on business.
