The Three Mages is a Web Original Fiction story by PurfectPrincessGirl.

It follows the adventures of the eponymous three mages: Prym, Aevri, and Tula who have all graduated from St. Ravilda's Academy for Mages. Originally all outcasts while in school, these three misfits formed their own group and have set out to travel the world to use their powers to help people.

The story, and additions to it, can be found on the creator's DeviantArt page.

The Three Mages provides examples of:

  • Abusive Parents:
    • Lord Hector and Lady Carlota have been pressuring their daughter Rosabel to marry one of the princes of the Graystone royal family to save their family from debt from a young age with no regard for her feelings whatsoever.
    • Elyvia White is emotionally abusive to her younger daughter Mila by constantly comparing her to her older sister Ana and making her feel worthless in comparison.
    • Lyra Montgomery's stepmother Esmeralda once tried to drown her in a lake.
  • Constructed World: The world The Three Mages takes place in has a fantasy setting and has been confirmed to be a separate world from Earth called "Terra".
  • Fantastic Racism: While it tends to vary in certain parts of the world, people with Dark Magic are usually looked down upon and regarded with derision due to their powers dabbling in mind manipulations and necromancy.
    • To a lesser extent, there's also some discrimination towards non-magical people who want to join the military.
  • Functional Magic: The Three Mages has the Inherent Gift variety where there are people who are born with their magical powers, with the most common powers being fire, air, water, and earth. Training the Gift of Magic is also necessary.
  • Hate Sink: Hoo boy, where do we begin? There are quite a few to name:
    • Sienna was a manipulative noblewoman who cared about no one but herself. She only married the then-widowed King of Graystone for more money and power due to her father wanting his family to rule the kingdom instead of the Grayle's. After the King of Graystone discovered Sienna's true nature and neglect of their son Kain, he banished her and the rest of her family from the kingdom, never to be heard from again.
    • Elyvia White is a seemingly sweet woman who preaches about perfection and tries to instill this view in others. However, she's emotionally abusive to her youngest daughter Mila by pressuring her to live up to her older sister Ana's perfect example. Elyvia also manipulated her husband Gene into perfecting himself while they dated in their younger years, leaving him blind to her true nature until it was too late.
  • Homosexual Reproduction: In the The Three Mages world, same-sex couples can have their own biological children using magical means, though some would go with other options such as surrogacy or adoption.
  • In the Hood: Most Mages' outfits tend to have hoods. While there are some exceptions, hooded outfits are considered more "proper" for Mages to wear.
  • Magitek: Word of God states that the story takes place in a medieval/modern setting with magical creatures, castles, carriages, but also modern-day technology such as TVs, photography, and guns, though some technology is a fusion of science and magic like guns that don't shoot bullets, but bursts of magical energy due to being powered by magical gems.
  • Muggle Born of Mages: Magic is usually hereditary, but sometimes it skips a generation. Lady Carlota didn't inherit her mother's nature-based powers, but her daughter Rosabel did.
  • Power Crystal: Mages make use of stones that store magical energy called "mana stones" that they magically bond with when they first acquire them. At St. Ravilda, granting and bonding a mana stone to a student is part of the entrance ceremony. For one to wear several mana stones, it means that they have a higher level of magic in them that needs to be channeled which the stones keep at bay. Graduated mage students typically start at the beginner level with only one stone, though prodigies (like Ana White) will have two, and experienced adults will have three or more. Mana stones can be worn anywhere on a Mage's outfit and can also be worn as jewelry. If a mage loses a mana stone, their magical power decreases significantly and it’s not always easy to replace it. If a mana stone breaks, then that mage is stuck not being able to recharge their magical power and once it runs out, it can’t come back. According to Word of God, the cost of one mana stone is equivalent to 100 US dollars.
  • Royals Who Actually Do Something: Royal heirs who graduate from their mage schools often become traveling mages who go on adventures around the world to help people. Kain, in particular, decided to become a traveling magician, i.e. stage performer.
  • Theme Naming: The characters all tend to have medieval-esque names (Prym, Noira, Elas, etc.), though there might be some modern names sprinkled in as there is one girl named "Ana". There are also cases of modern names with a medieval/fantasy spelling.
  • Walking the Earth: Students who graduate from school can opt to become traveling mages who travel around the world to use their powers to aid people.
  • Wizarding School: St. Ravilda's Academy for Mages, the school where the girls graduated from.
