Characters / RuneScape Pets

Go To

As with many Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games, RuneScape possesses a large number of pets the player can keep. The pets can be separated into two groups. The first group are the interface pets, which can only be accessed through the game's customization interface. The second group are the object pets, which exist in the game as objects and usually when dropped by the player will proceed to follow them.

    open/close all folders

    In General
  • A Dog Named "Dog": Many pets don't have real names, with Lazy/Wily Cats and the Baby Troll being notable exceptions. Many Companion and Legendary also avert this through the Pet Interface.
  • Actual Pacifist: Just barely subverted, since aside from cats; who can only attack rats, and Legendary pets with the ability Slayer Finisher active, pets can't fight at all.
  • All Animals Are Domesticated: All pets are fully domesticated and safe for the player to have.
  • Gratuitous Animal Sidekick: Who would expect an adventuring hero to travel around with kittens, puppies, chicks and other baby or otherwise cute animals?
  • Non Human Side Kick: Self explanatory since these are your pets.
  • Pet Interface: The interface pets which can be found in these categories Follower, Companion, Legendary, Boss and Skilling.
  • Undying Loyalty: No matter what the pet's alignment is, they are nothing, but loyal to the player.

    Legendary Pets
A unique group of interface pets that are in essence similar to the Follower and Companion pets at first glance. Unlike the after mentioned categories in the pet interface Legendary pets have abilities that the player can select which can help them in game unlike most other pets.
  • Extreme Omnivore: Legendary pets with the ability Fertiliser can spawn Mod Daze's homework or Mod Dolan's rubber duck along with the usual droppings, suggesting that the players pet has previously eaten said objects.
  • Finishing Move: Legendary pets with the ability Slayer Finisher active can finish off slayer monsters for the player. This means that Legendary pets can subvert the Actual Pacifist trope as seen in the above folder.
  • Lots of Luggage: Downplayed, Legendary pets with the ability Beast of Burden active can carry items for the player. How much it can carry depends on which familiar pouch; of a familiar also with the ability, is used on it.
  • Solid Gold Poop: Legendary pets with the ability Fertiliser can spawn droppings, which can be turned into compost or super compost if they're on a member's world.

The son of the troll general Morningstar. Unlike most pets he can be named by feeding him and gaining the name of what's been fed, which follows in line with the other trolls in the game. • I'm a Humanitarian: Among the things you can feed your Baby Troll are the remains of other trolls, including its own father. It also can threat you with this.

All pets have a pickup option, identical in spelling to the pickup item option. The pickup option was originally visible to all players, even those who didn't own the pet, though the option wouldn't do anything for them. Thus, you could feed your pet troll an expensive item and then "troll" people who tried to pick it up.

Bulldog: "Give us a sip of that tea, pet, I'm parched!"

Treasure Hunternote

    In General
Pets players can get through the daily activity Treasure Hunternote , the removed Squeal Of Fortunenote  or through the use of Oddmentsnote  in the Marketplace.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: Unless you're lucky, players will probably need to pay to increase their chances of getting these pets.
  • Microtransactions: Player would likely need to purchase keysnote  to increase their chances of getting these pets.
  • Promotional Powerless Piece of Garbage: Many of these pets are hard to get and don't help you at all in the game itself.
  • Revenue-Enhancing Devices: Most of these pets are completely useless in game and getting them requires a lot of luck or money, which is used to buy the keys needed in the game.

Object Pets

    Golden Chinchompa (Squeal Of Fortune)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/golden_chinchompa_following_9.png
Ready to explode with golden goodness.

A prize from the Squeal Of Fortune between the 6th and 16th of September 2013 during the Golden Chinchompa promotion. After the 16th of September 2013 the pet was removed from the game when its promotion ended, though on October the 2nd an alternate version of this pet could be acquired at Solomon's General Store.

Much like other breeds of Chinchompa the Golden Chinchompa can explode only in its case it rewards the player that raised it with various items.

  • Having a Blast: Like most other Chinchompa breeds they can explode.
  • PG Explosives: When the Golden Chinchompa explodes it can leave behind various objects, but no signs of Ludicrous Gibs.
  • Solid Gold Poop: Possibly since the Golden Chinchompa claims that it will turn into a chinchompafly and leave behind lots of gold for the playernote , the player doubts this though.
  • Temporary Online Content: This version of the pet was completely removed from the game after the 16th of September, though a lookalike became available in a Solomon's General Store shortly after.

    Hype Train
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hype_train_pet.png
Choo choo...all aboard!

A rare prize from Treasure Hunternote , the Hype Train is a small train that follows the player around.

Originally the Hype Train was as object based pet, but in late May 2016 the Hype Train was converted into a Follower interface pet.

  • Cool Train: It's a little train that follows the player around.
  • Living Toys: Due to its small size, the fact it appears to be completely made of wood and the fact it's completely autonomous it's likely one of these.
  • Real Time: Becomes more active as the system update time counts down.
  • The Speechless: Though capable of making noise as a train it doesn't talk, though the player does talk to it.

    Skully

Misses his body.

A rare prize from the Squeal Of Fortune and later Treasure Hunter once it was removed. Originally when won if players don't want him had the option of having him converted into 500,000 coins. Skully according to some of his dialogue owes his undead nature to a curse that was placed upon him.

Originally Skully was as object based pet, but in late May 2016 Skully was converted into a Follower interface pet.

  • Black Comedy: Every conversation with him has this.
  • Curse: Is apparently cursed to live forever.
  • Dem Bones: Just a skull and spine.
  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath: As one can see in his image his eyes glow green.
  • I'd Tell You, but Then I'd Have to Kill You: Played With, since Skully never said he'd tell the player how he gets around without legs, he'd show them.
Skully: "Can we slow down? I don't have the legs I used to."
Player: "You don't have any legs at all. Actually, how do you even get around?"
Skully: "I could show you - I just need to kill you first."
Player: "Um...actually, I'm not that curious."
  • Pun: Gives one in a conversation with him. The player also has some in another conversation.
"Someone who had a bone to pick with me."

    Tumbleweed

The pet for the lonely.

A rare prize from the Squeal Of Fortune and later Treasure Hunter once it was removed. Not much is known about the Tumbleweed's history, but some removed examine text suggests it likes the player's jokes.

Originally the Tumbleweed was as object based pet, but in late May 2016 the Tumbleweed was converted into a Follower interface pet.

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Its examine text in the player's inventory; back when it was a object pet, suggests this.
"Always appreciates your jokes, even if others don't."

It's also, unknown how he ended up in Gielinor. Felix has a total of 5 different fur color variants for the player to select for Felix: Tabby, Gingernote , Siamesenote , Blue Shorthairnote  and Snowyshorthairnote . • Accessory-Wearing Cartoon Animal: Pretty much his main theme as a pet, players can dress him up in various outfits or even just use different components of said outfits.
  • Alien Animals: Technically all cats in Gielinor are this as a speciesnote . Felix; however, takes this even further since he's literally from another world called Renmark.
  • Cool Sword: A few of his outfits feature swords.
  • Everything's Better with Samurai: The Sameowrai and Sameowrai (Prestige) outfits.
  • Shout-Out: Has a few.
    • His very appearance seems to be one to the title character of Puss in Boots.
    • His default name appears to be one too Felix the Cat.
  • Talking Animal: Unlike regular cats the player does not need an Amulet Of Catspeak to understand Felix. Felix also does not appear to be wearing an Amulet Of Humanspeak.
