Heroine/Main Character

Portrayed by: Akane Hotta (film)

A 28-year-old wedding planner.


  • Named by the Adaptation: She's given the name Kana Sakurai in the movie.
  • No Poker Face: She is noted to broadcast her emotions over her face. One character notices when her stocking was torn because he saw her looking down at her leg in worry; if pressed on how he knew, he explains and adds that she's an open book. Another sees her entering a fancy restaurant and notes that her eyes immediately go as wide as saucers. He remarks to her:
    "You look like an untouchable goddess, but every tiny expression reads on your face."
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Takoyaki. It reflects how much sloppier she is in the privacy of her home, eating junk food and letting her apartment become a mess, in contrast to her glamorous public look.
  • Trash of the Titans: Downplayed. Her apartment is messy enough to avoid inviting people in, and she cleans on short notice by shoving everything into a closet.

Love Interests

Azusa Kurono

Portrayed by: Shun Nishime (film)

A 27-year-old fun-loving and cheeky freelance graphic designer.

He is the eighth liar. He is a scam artist who proposes to women before extorting money from them.


  • Con Man: He's actually a marriage fraud.
  • Hidden Depths: He is more grounded than he comes off at first and observant.

Haruichi Mamiya

Portrayed by: Testsuya Iwanaga (film)

A 31-year-old president of an IT company that you know through work.

He is the sixth liar. He is the sixth-generation heir to the Mamiya crime syndicate.


  • Yakuza: The heir to the Mamiya crime syndicate.

Itaru Yuikawa

Portrayed by: Yu Inaba (film)

A 28-year-old foreign exchange trader who shares similar interests with you and has an intense rivalry with Sotaro.

He is the sole non-liar of the ten love interests and the one who the MC chooses at the end of the main route.


  • First Girl After All: A gender-flipped example. He knew the heroine prior to the beginning of the game as revealed in the lovers route.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Perhaps not as bad as the other liars but it's revealed that after the MC rejected him when they were kids, he completely changed his whole look and self just to become the ideal man the MC is interested in, he even admits that he stalks her SNS just to find out her interest and such to become her ideal man. MC is understandably freaked out afterward. He gets better during the sequel chapter and his lover route's though.
  • Yandere: Not as bad as Toya, but what else do you call a guy that stalked his first love after she rejected him and basically throws his old personality and everything else to become her ideal man?

Joe Yazawa

Portrayed by: Tetsuya Makita (film)

A 32-year-old newly famous fashion designer who's quite eccentric and stylish.

He is the third liar. He is obsessed with the pop idol Nanyami and wishes to turn the MC into a living doll of her.


  • Otaku: He's a secret idol fan.
  • Stalker with a Crush: He is obsessed with Nanyami and kidnaps the MC so he can turn her into a replica of the pop idol.

Kazumi Kagami

Portrayed by: Yuki Kubota (film)

A 40-year-old famous mystery novelist who is very laidback and mature.

He is the seventh liar. He is a drug addict... except he isn't, as he reveals his true secret to the MC when she calls him out. Turns out he has a heart condition and is slowly dying from it.


Keima Katagiri

Portrayed by: Daichi Saeki (film)

A 32-year-old stock trader that you knew from college and your former crush.

He is the fourth liar. He has massive financial problems caused by his gambling addiction.


Kunio Muroi

Portrayed by: Takashi Nagayama (film)

A 38-year-old diplomat who's quite a smooth talker and a fan of classic cars.

He is the fifth liar. He is already married and has a child.


Shuto Matsuki

Portrayed by: Tom Fujita (film)

A 25-year-old famous soccer player who's devoted to his family.

He is the first liar. He is a 'mama's boy' with an intense obsession towards his mother Michiko.


Sotaro Shiga

Portrayed by: Atomu Mizuishi (film)

A 29-year-old talented but aloof surgeon who has an intense rivalry with Itaru.

He is the ninth liar. He has been divorced twice and is insensitive and unable to empathize with his partners.


Toya Kashi

Portrayed by: Ryo Mitsuya (film)

A 28-year-old famous patisserie whom you're a fan of his desserts.

He is the second liar. He has severe anger management issues.


  • Freudian Excuse: His True ending reveals that his first girlfriend cheated on him, which caused him to become extremely possessive over women since he'll believe they'll abandon him.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: He has serious anger issues and even something little like getting a date postponed can set him off.
  • The Klutz: At least, he wants the MC to think he's clumsy.
  • Stalker with a Crush: In his Scumbag ending, he starts stalking the MC.

Shizuo Furuya

The heroine's ex-boyfriend who cheated on her for half a year.


Ayumi Yanase

The heroine's co-worker.
  • The Ditz: The MC describes her as such.
    She's cute as a button, but one might call her... a little ditzy. Or maybe very ditzy... or maybe just plain stupid.
  • The Load: The MC describes her as "about as useful as an ejection seat on a helicopter".

Yuri Kawai

The heroine's best friend.
  • Best Friend: She listens to the heroine's relationship troubles and gives her advice.

The fortuneteller

A fortuneteller who tells the heroine that nine of the ten guys are liars. He's right.

A college friend of the heroine and Yuri.

The 28-year-old new leader of D-Team.


  • One-Steve Limit: Averted. Shares her name with the main character of Uncover the Truth.
  • Wouldn't Hit a Girl: She slaps all but one of the male liars after exposing them, but never slaps any of the female liars, even the one that kidnapped her.

D-Team Members

Chisa Fukumura

A 33-year-old assistant designer who is conscientious and nurturing.

She is the fourth liar. She's taken a side job despite company policy.


  • Friendless Background: An old acquaintance of hers takes advantage of this to suck her into the Merry K scheme.
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: Downplayed, she works with Guy as she is the assistant designer. He has light blonde hair, while Chisa has black hair, and he is the youngest on the D-Team while Chisa is the oldest. Guy has a mischievous personality while Chisa comes off as kind and responsible. They are also eliminated back-to-back, with Chisa being the fourth liar and Guy being the fifth.
  • Nice Girl: When they first meet, she tells the MC to come to her if she needs help with anything. Her other reason for joining Merry K, aside from her loneliness, is that she wants to help other people be happy. In her Love End, she saves an old lady from falling on a train, and later comes to the heroine's apartment to bring sports drinks and make her food when she is sick.
  • Ponzi: A victim of one of these, she sells cosmetics for 'Merry K' (an obvious reference to the real-life Mary Kay) and tries to get the MC caught up in the scheme.
  • Super Gullible: She is easily brainwashed by Merry K. Additionally, in her Love End, the heroine convinces one of the Merry K higher-ups that his grandfather's ghost is watching and disappointed in him, which is an obviois lie. Chisa expresses surprise that the heroine can see ghosts when they take the train back home.

Daikichi Hirose

A 31-year-old merchandise planner that is gentlemanly and accepting.

He is the third liar. He's a ladies man that drags his love life into the office.


  • Really Gets Around: He is sleeping with at least two of the other women at Media Act, as the MC learns during his chapter.

Guy Kurihara

The 23-year-old head designer who is impish and modern.

He is the fifth liar. He is a thief.


  • Dub Name Change: Is named Eru in the Japanese version, and there doesn't seem to be any real reason why he was renamed for the English localisation.
  • Hair-Contrast Duo: Downplayed, he works with Chisa as she is the assistant designer. He has light blonde hair, while Chisa has black hair, and he is the youngest on the D-Team while Chisa is the oldest. Guy has a mischievous personality while Chisa comes off as kind and responsible. They are also eliminated back-to-back, with Chisa being the fourth liar and Guy being the fifth.
  • Sticky Fingers: He is the office's habitual thief, claiming that stealing gives him inspiration for designs.

Keisuke Shijo

A 27-year-old assistant copywriter who is young and brazen.

He is the sole non-liar on D-Team, and is the MC's boyfriend by the end of the Office route.


  • Brutal Honesty: He speaks his mind and has no interest in the "endearing yourself to people" part of office politics.
  • Licked by the Dog: According to the heroine, whenever she has people over, her cat, James, hides away from people except Keisuke. James is fond of Keisuke immediately after they met the first time. This is a foreshadow that Keisuke is the trustworthy non-liar.
  • The Reveal: He's actually the son of Media Act's president, and is set to inherit the company later in his life.

Kohei Kusonoki

The 28-year-old media producer who is unassuming and distant.

He is the eighth liar. He's been eavesdropping on the MC to record her voice.


May Akutsu

A 28-year-old assistant copywriter that is impassive and aloof.

She is the ninth liar. She's the daughter of Daito's president and is the second spy in D-Team.


Minoru Yokoyama

The 28-year-old head copywriter that is cheerful and prodigious.

He is the second liar. He's been harassing the MC because he's jealous of her promotion.


  • Green-Eyed Monster: The reason why he steals others' work and sabotages the MC.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He was the "smartest guy" in his small hometown, and seems to think that this makes him the smartest guy at Media Act, too.
  • Stealing the Credit: He shamelessly rips off the ideas of May and Keisuke and passes them off as his own work, as he did with other coworkers in the past.

Reina Miyata

A 25-year-old merchandising assistant that is sweet and doe-eyed.

She is the seventh liar. She kidnapped the MC in hopes of a romantic relationship.


  • Because You Were Nice to Me: One of the reasons she fell for the MC.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Keisuke and Kohei making moves on the MC pushes her to step up her approach and go the kidnapping route, for fear of losing out to one of them.
  • Hidden Depths: She comes off as flighty, but she's a diligent worker, and shows craftiness in getting Mr. Kaneyama off her back. Wrongly accusing her as the sixth liar will reveal the reason she got her nails painted with Office Battle designs was to help break the ice when talking to clients, in contrast to what the MC assumed about her only getting them because it was popular.
  • Rescue Romance: Planned to stage one of these.

Shiori Kojima

A 26-year-old media assistant who is bright and bubbly.

She is the first liar. She's been leaking company secrets on social media.


  • Friendless Background: While she seems like a friendly, popular type, it is revealed that she did not have many friends when she started working at Media Act, causing her to start the TwinkleTwinkle account for attention.
  • Genki Girl: She typically acts cheerful and energetic around her coworkers.

Yusei Sasaki

The 30-year-old assistant leader who is reliable and manly.

He is the sixth liar. He's a spy for rival company Daito, and mentions he's not the only one...


Others

Chika Funaki

A young co-worker who admires the main character and previously worked with her prior to the latter's transfer to the D-Team.


  • Nice Girl: An ally of the MC who helps by giving her information on the first liar's social media account.

Taichi Minami

The heroine's ex-boyfriend who is revealed to have been cheating on her with her friend.


  • Sympathetic Adulterer: Downplayed. He is generally portrayed as a victim of Sakurako's cheating addiction and an idiot, rather than a villainous cheater, but he is still dumped and faces some consequences for his actions.

Sakurako Kaneyama

The heroine's ex-friend who is revealed in the prologue to have been cheating on her with her boyfriend. She's also the daughter of the department head, which means she gets away with a lot.


  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: At the start of the game, the heroine thinks of her as her best friend, but her true personality turns out to be terrible. She's also a Daito spy.
  • Glamor Failure: Her terrible true face is hidden under her makeup, and it melts when she alongside her father are punished.
  • Villainous Breakdown: When MC reveals that she and her father are working for Daito, she attempts to beat her up, but the Janitor spills water on her face before she even lays a finger on MC.

Mr. Kaneyama

The department head.


  • Glamor Failure: He's balding, and the false hair falls off when he alongside his daughter are punished.
  • The Mole: Also turns out to be working for the Daito corporation.

President of Media Act / Mr. Shijo


  • Big Damn Heroes: Fires the Kaneyama family when they attack MC and are revealed to be Daito spies.
  • The Reveal: Keisuke is his son. And he's the Janitor's son.

The Janitor / Grandpa Shijo

A man who at the beginning tells the MC that one of D-Team's members is a trustworthy partner.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Uses his cleaning equipment to wipe off Sakurako's makeup before she attacks MC.
  • Stealth Mentor: He recommended that MC be put in charge of D-Team hoping she'll whip them into shape.
  • The Reveal: He's actually the CEO of Media Act. Also, he's the father of the President and thus grandfather of Keisuke.

Taguchi

A woman from the PR department who texts the heroine to "back off" during the third liar's route. She is dating Daikichi.
  • No Full Name Given: Like other minor characters, she is known by one name only. Justified in that Daikichi does not care much about his girlfriends, so it would not be surprising if he didn't know her full name, and in that "Taguchi" is the name that she introduces herself to the MC with.
  • Yandere: In the Liar 3 Bad End, she tries to Murder The Hypoteneuse by pushing the main character off of a roof. She succeeds.

"Dame"

The longest serving employee at Media Act. Tips the main character off about the fourth liar's lie.

Midori Hamatani

A classmate of Chisa's from middle school.
  • Con Man: Downplayed. She is the one who takes advantage of Chisa's loneliness to drag her into the Merry K scheme.
  • Ponzi: She is a part of the Merry K scheme and convinces Chisa to join her.

    Scheming Socialites

The daughter of the CEO of I&H Weddings.


MC's Classmates

Akari Saionji

The 24-year-old daughter of the police commissioner.

She's the third liar. She's been going on dates with several people.


Hayato Sumeragi

A 21-year-old son of a hotel magnate.

He's the first liar. He accidentally stole the MC's bra.


  • Nosebleed: Consistently gets one of these when in close proximity to any woman due to his lack of experience.
  • Virginity Makes You Stupid: He is a 'professional virgin' who thinks that porn logic will work in the real world, and doesn't understand why his previous girlfriends have been so unwilling to sleep with him.

Kaname Todo

A 22-year-old training to become a lawyer, and a member of the karuta club the MC's in.

He's the fourth liar. He hosts parties to deal out illegal goods.


  • Arms Dealer: Secretly hosts masquerade parties dealing weapons and other illegal goods.

Kyoko Kuramochi

A 21-year-old who's the daughter of a famous confectioner, and a member of the karuta club the MC's in.

She's one of the non-liars and the one MC declares to be her true best friend.


  • Forgotten First Meeting: She was a little girl MC helped in her childhood, which is why she looks up to her so much.

Mio Takanashi

The 22-year-old daughter of a play director.

She's the seventh liar. She has been sabotaging the protagonist's dates so she wouldn't lose her best friend.


  • Yandere: Platonic (or maybe not) version for the protagonist, going to drastic measures to prevent any guys from stealing away her best friend.

Nagi Arisugawa

The 24-year-old son of a plastic surgeon.

He's the sixth liar. He kidnapped MC because he wants to have some fun in bondage with her.


  • Bondage Is Bad: He is a masochist who wants nothing more than to be beaten and abused by the MC, going so far as to drug and kidnap her to take part in his "games".

Senri Hiiragi

A 30-year-old master of Ikebana (flower arranging), and a childhood friend of the MC.

He's the fifth liar. He has been cat-fishing as the MC.


  • Wins by Doing Absolutely Nothing: Up until the 5th liar, he doesn't so much as introduce himself to the MC, which naturally means he's not a suspect or culprit up to that point.

Shotaro Suzumiya

The 22-year-old son of a jewellery chain CEO, and a member of the basketball club.

He's one of the non-liars and the one MC ends up marrying at the end.


  • Closet Geek: MC discovers he's a fellow otaku in the epilogue.
  • Righteous Rabbit: Goes along with his rabbit motif and how he's the non-liar.

Shunya Tsukino

The 21-year-old son of a luxury fashion brand's owner.

He's the second liar. He's a hacker and posted a video of panty shots of student girls on the internet.


Sosuke Suo

The 25-year-old son of a politician, and a member of the basketball club.

He's the eight liar. He is only interested in marrying the protagonist for money since he's been disowned by his father.


  • Gold Digger: Initially only approached the protagonist because he was interested in her money, however over the course of the story he falls in love with her for real.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Gives up on the heroine as he knows her parents would never accept her marrying into a poor family.

Others

Haruki Yagami

A butler for the MC's family, and one of the additional suspects for the 9th liar.

He's the ninth liar. He's a legendary thief who tries to steal a tiara from MC's family.


Hiromi Mori

The teacher for the MC's seminars, and one of the additional suspects for the 9th liar. She's innocent.


    Dark Lies 

Heroine/Main Character

A 25-year-old nurse and daughter of a yakuza leader who wants to live a normal life.

Sharehouse Housemates

Ami Sugiyama

A 26-year-old woman who works for a major international IT company. She had returned to Japan after studying in the US, and often peppers her speech with English words. She prefers to be called "Amy".

She is the first liar, being an inconsiderate housemate who does not clean up after herself when she creates a mess in the sharehouse.


  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: After being exposed as the first liar, it is revealed that she is so busy with work that she forgets or is too tired to clean up after herself, but doesn't want to ask her housemates for help because she sees herself as a "perfect woman".

Karen Nakano

The heroine's 28-year-old childhood friend. She runs her own club and offers the heroine to move into the sharehouse she was living at, after the heroine discovers that her boyfriend had been cheating on her.

She is the 7th liar, as it is revealed that she is a drug dealer.

Kazuma Kazemiya

A relaxed 28-year-old professional stock trader.

He is the 2nd liar. It is revealed that he is into wearing diapers, sucking on pacifiers, pretending to be a baby and trying to drag the heroine into his fantasies by pretending that she is his mother.

Reiko Himeno

A childlike 30-year-old woman who does some fortune-telling under Kathy, and prefers to be called "Hime-chan". She adds a "-chan" or "-chi" to everyone's names. She is almost killed by the 9th liar towards the end of the game.

She is the 3rd liar. It is revealed that she is actually 50 years old, and her real name is "Shin Toyama". She has been taking non-certified medication to maintain her appearance.

Yoichi Tokiwa

A 24-year-old man who works at the same hospital as the heroine, and is also one of her housemates.

He is the 4th liar, and a money counterfeiter.

Yuki Kamukura

A 26-year-old genius cameraman.

He is the 8th liar, and part of the Hong Kong mafia, which is involved in human trafficking.

Hospital Staff

Kosaku Ichimura

A 45-year-old doctor who works at the same hospital as the heroine.

He is the 9th liar. He is a psychopathic serial killer who caused the heroine's mother to fall into a coma, and then later killed her when she awoke from her coma later in the story. He also almost kills Reiko Himeno, and uses humans for experiments.

Shunsuke Wataya

A 27-year-old male nurse who works at the same hospital as the heroine.

He is the 6th liar. He is suspected to be two-timing Sumika and the heroine at first, but it is later revealed that he has a split personality.

Sumika Shitou

The heroine's female colleague. She is not part of the original cast of 10, but is added as a potential liar for the 6th liar.

Others

Ao Okura

A member of the heroine's father's yakuza group. He is 40 years old, and has known the heroine since she was little, and thus constantly treats her as a kid.

He is the heroine's destined person. It is revealed in his Lovers' Route that he is not actually part of the yakuza, but an undercover agent working for the police.

Eitaro Agawa

A 35-year-old politician who met the heroine when he was hospitalized at the hospital she worked at.

He is the 5th liar, and a date rapist.
