Tropes that apply to all three
    Georgie Buttman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unnamed_96.jpg

Voiced by: Yuriko Yamamoto (Japanese), Sabine Bohlmann (German), Antonella Baldini (Italian), Annebelle Roux (French), Beatrice Järås (Swedish), Marta García (European Spanish), Mònica Padrós (Catalan Spanish), Zélia Santos (European Portugeuse), Eugene Domingo (Tagalog), Eman Hussain (Arabic)

The main heroine of the story. A bright girl who lives with her parents and two brothers at Buttman Ranch, just outside Sydney, Australia. She wears a bracelet even before she realizes its significance. Special skills are sewing, washing and boomerang.

  • All-Loving Heroine: She is the heroine of the story, as expected is one of a pure, kind, gentle and affectionate heart.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She is the youngest of her siblings and the youngest member of her family.
  • Badass Adorable: She is a sweet innocent girl, but it didn't stop her from saving Catherine from drowning and sharks.
  • Betty and Veronica: directly or indirectly she has been involved in this.
    • She is the Archie to her adoptive brothers; Arthur's Betty and Abel's Veronica.
    • She same is the Betty to Elise's Veronica to Lowell's Archie.
    • She also is the Betty to Jessica's Veronica to Abel's Archie.
  • Big Sister Instinct: She jumped into the sea to rescue Catherine even though it was full of sharks. Possibly she inherited this trait from her adoptive siblings.
  • Cool Big Sis: Georgie becomes a surrogate version for Catherine after she finds out that she is a girl.
  • Dub Name Change: She is called Joaninha in the European Portugeuse dub.
  • Dude Magnet: She has three guys in love with her.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: She provoked a Sweet on Polly Oliver to Catherine when she impersonated Joe Buttman on her trip.
  • Father, I Want to Marry My Brother: When she was a child she used to say that she wanted to marry her brothers Abel and Arthur, and also the three of them used to continuously play at being mom and dad. This obviously she said without having any idea that they were not actually her biological siblings, and she lost this fantasy as she grew up.
  • Feminine Women Can Cook: Downplayed. Georgie is an excellent cook, but she is a bit of a tomboy and it took quite a bit of practice for her.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She has blond hair and is a very kind and gentle girl.
  • Happily Adopted: Zig Zagged. On the one hand, it is known that she lived a happy childhood with her brothers and her adoptive father, but on the other hand we know that her adoptive mother did not accept her as a daughter and abused her. This becomes more doubtful later on where her same mother admits that she was very happy with her three children.
  • Her Heart Will Go On: In the manga, thanks to Lowell's advice and the support of her closest friends, she decides to continue with her life after Abel's death and raise her son who is on the way.
  • The Ingenue: She's so pure and naive that it can cause problems.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: After seeing that she will not be able to pay for Lowell's tuberculosis operation, she decides to leave him with Elise, knowing that it is the best for his well-being.
  • Little Sister Heroine: They aren't actually blood brothers, but they were raised as such, and both Abel and Arthur have to deal with the fact that they fell in love with their own sister. The way they decide to deal with it each were very different.
  • Oblivious Adoption: Georgie has blonde hair and green eyes while the rest of her family has dark hair and blue eyes, despite this she never suspected that she was adopted.
  • Oblivious to Love: She is unaware that both her adoptive brothers are in love with her.
  • One of the Boys: During her childhood she was always playing with her adoptive brothers Abel and Arthur, and even in the episodes where she goes to school she is only seen hanging out with boys. It seems that during her childhood she did not have female friends in adsolute.
  • Plucky Girl: She goes through many adversities in her life, from having to face her adoptive mother expel her from her home, and having her confess her true roots, to having to let her loved one go to make sure he can stay alive, and having to watch the new one die man she loved, but despite everything she knew how to stand up and face these problems
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: She fell in love with Lowell who is a very attentive and kind boy. Later in the manga she falls in love with Abel when he gets his Character Development, and in the ending it is hinted that she might start a new romance with the Nice Guy Arthur.
  • Someone to Remember Him By: Another reason that helped her to recover after Abel's death was the fact that she was now pregnant with his son.
  • Sweet Polly Oliver: Georgie is not allowed to participate in a boomerang competition because she's a girl, so she dresses up in her brother's clothes and lies. She wins the competition and was originally going to get a kiss from Elizabeth as the prize, but reveals her sex before they actually kiss. This is also how she meets Lowell. Happens again when she follows Lowell to London, cutting her hair short in the process unlike before when she just tucked her hair in her hat.
  • Tragic Keepsake: Georgie's bracelet, the only thing tying her to her noble family. She later has to sell it to pay for medicine for Lowell, but ultimately she has to return him home.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: She's a nice and cheerful tomboy, while Elise is a mean and girly Rich Bitch.
  • Textile Work Is Feminine: She can sew, even making a dress out of Catherine and her mother's old dresses, which are too small and too low-cut respectively, and later gets a job as a seamstress to support herself and Lowell. She really has an innate talent for sewing, even her father mentions that if she opened her own dress shop she would become richer than him.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak: She grew up as an Outdoorsy Gal with her brothers, is playful, energetic, and good at boomerang. She is also very sweet, has no problem with dresses (even the pink ones) or feminine things like sewing and cooking, and is madly in love with Princely Young Man Lowell.
  • The Unfavorite: Georgie is this to her adopted mother Mary.
  • You Can't Go Home Again: How Georgie views Mary kicking her out.

    Abel Buttman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/5cbcac580635fa84a45ef119b7791213.jpg

Voiced by: Eiko Yamadanote , Hideyuki Horinote  (Japanese), Marc Rosenberg (German), Massimiliano Manfredi/Oreste Baldini (Italian), Pierre Laurent (French), Staffan Hallerstam (Swedish), Paco Cardona (European Spanish), Carlos di Blasi/Teresa Soler (Catalan Spanish), João Cardoso/Rui Oliviera/Paula Seabra (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Soad Jawad (Arabic)

Arthur's older brother. He realized his love for his sister, Georgie, and sailed to forget her, but eventually chased Georgie to England.

  • Aloof Big Brother: Along with his Crazy Jealous Guy attitude towards Georgie, this is one of the worst traits he acquired growing up. It was necessary to see his brother kidnapped and tortured to realize how bad he was.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Arthur's Betty for Georgie's Archie.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Especially as a child, it is mentioned that he was very protective of his siblings. This comes back to him after his significant character development, where he is finally willing to sacrifice his life in order to rescue Arthur.
  • Character Development: He goes from being a jealous and selfish boy who only wants Georgie to be with him regardless of her opinion, to a more disinterested person who genuinely cares for his brother and just wants to save him
  • Crazy Jealous Guy: He can't stand to see another guy interested in Georgie.
  • Cool Big Bro: Play this role for Joy later on. To a certain extent he was also one for Georgie and Arthur during their childhood.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He is certainly a good guy, but in regards to his feelings for Georgie he is quite jealous, possessive and to some extent quite selfish. Abel even hit Arthur when he told him that Georgie could never see him as anything more than a brother (which was true).
  • Momma's Boy: Both Abel and Arthur are this to their mother, although Mary seems to have a bit more preference for Abel.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Red Oni to Arthur's Blue Oni.
  • Second Love: For Georgie in the manga.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The rebellious Manly Man to Arthur's thoughtful Sensitive Guy.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: He survives in the anime, unlike the manga.
  • Tall, Dark, and Handsome: His hair is darker than Arthur's, and he grows up to be very attractive.
  • Troubled, but Cute: In contrast to typical Nice Guy Arthur, Abel is definitely the enigmatic, rebellious (sometimes violent), but passionate Mr. Fanservice who can attract girls to him.
  • Twin Switch: Although they are not twins, Abel switches places with Arthur in the manga.

    Arthur Buttman

Voiced by: Reiko Kitōnote / Isao Nagahisanote  (Japanese), Manou Lubowski (German), Corrado Conforti/Fabrizio Manfredi (Italian), Sophie Arthuys/François Lescurat (French), Staffan Hallerstam (Swedish), Rafael Alonso Naranjo Jr. (European Spanish), Raúl Llorens/Elisabet Bargalló (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Nour Al-Houda Sabri (Arabic)

Abel's brother. Has a kind and gentle personality. He also loves his sister Georgie as a woman, just like his brother. After caring for his mother, he travels to England, but when he discovers smuggled gold on a ship, the Danglings find him and imprison him, making him go under the pseudonym Cain and pose as Maria's fiance to keep tabs on him.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/unnamed_1_63.jpg
  • Attempted Suicide: In the anime, he slits his wrists and attempts to bleed out in the bathtub, but is unsuccessful and found by Irwin before he is treated. In the manga, Irwin gives Arthur a drug similar to heroin, and as Georgie is trying to help him, he jumps off the boat they're on and is believed to have drowned. Fortunately, he is found by a fishing boat and returned to Adelaide, with Georgie believing him to be dead for years.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Betty to Abel's Veronica for Georgie's Archie.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Arthur confronts his mother after revealing to Georgie his origins, telling her that he doesn't intend to return home if she kick Georgie.
  • Cool Big Bro: He is a very loving brother to Georgie and clearly she adores both him and Abel.
  • Double Standard: Rape, Male on Male: Averted. It is implied that Arthur was raped by Irwin while he and his uncle were holding him prisoner, and despite not showing it explicitly, the manga makes it clear that it was a heartbreaking and unpleasant event.
  • Distressed Dude: When he arrives in London, Duke Dangling kidnaps him and keeps him prisoner to prevent him from revealing his evil plans and the drug trade. This is much worse in the manga where he is constantly injected with drugs to torture him to keep him at bay, and it is even implied that Irwin is sexually abusing him. In fact the only reason they keep him alive is because Maria had fallen in love with him.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: Unlike his brother he understands that Georgie could never see them as anything more than brothers, and he decided that he would be happy just to see her happy.
  • Maybe Ever After: At the end of the manga, it's implied that he could start a romance with Georgie.
  • Middle Child Syndrome: He's technically the middle child among his siblings (even if Georgie is adopted), and at least in the manga he doesn't get as much characterization beyond being a Foil species to Abel. Although he becomes a key element to the story after being kidnapped by Duke Dangling.
  • Nice Guy: Compared to his brother, Arthur is more sensitive and selfless.
  • Rape as Drama: While he is kidnapped by the Duke Dangling, it is implied that he is raped by Irwin, and when he resists they increase the overdose of his drug which drives him more and more crazy.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue Oni to Abel's Red Oni.
  • Sensitive Guy and Manly Man: The thoughtful Sensitive Guy to Abel's rebellious Manly Man.

    Lowell J. Gray

Voiced by: Yūji Mitsuya (Japanese), Philipp Moog (German), Riccardo Rossi (Italian), Unknown (French), Gunnar Ernblad (Swedish), Unknown (European Spanish), Josep Maria Mas (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Ali Mohammed Ibrahim (Arabic)

The grandson of the Australian governor. He is not an aristocrat, but of the upper class in England. He falls in love once with Georgie, but succumbs to his disease.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a9f21bb09cfc7e38a7ff47022ce4f8d7_manga_anime_lady_georgie.jpg
  • Cheryl Blossom: He is Georgie's main love interest in a love triangle that involves her two brothers.
  • First Love: To Georgie.
  • I Want My Beloved to Be Happy: In the manga after Abel's death, he infiltrates Georgie's room and tells her that she must be strong and continue living, because he once loved her and is very grateful for the love she has given him, and that's why he wants to see her happy.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: Subverted at first. However after Elise's character development, Lowell falls in love with her and decides that it is with her that he wants to be, but he tells Georgie that he wants her to be happy because he once loved her.
  • Princely Young Man: Of the Gentleman type.
  • Uptown Guy: He is the son of a nobleman and Georgie is the adopted daughter of some farmers. Slightly subverted, since Georgie's biological family are actually noble.

Secondary Characters

    Mary Buttman

Voiced by: Miyuki Ueda (Japanese) Unknown (German), Serena Spaziana (Italian), Geneviève Taillade (French), Beatrice Järås (Swedish), Unknown (European Spanish), Carme Buxaderas (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Maha Almusri (Arabic)

The mother of Abel, Arthur and (adoptive) Georgie. After the death of her husband, she ran the farm alone and raised children. He worried that his children would begin to see Georgie as a woman, so he regretted hitting him. After that, she fell down with a lot of work and was deceased by Arthur.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mary_bateman.png
  • Abusive Parents: She is very hard on Georgie and most of the time she blames her for the misfortunes that happen in the family, even though she has done absolutely nothing to feasibly cause them or were out of her control.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: Although she is far from being considered a loving mother, at least in the anime she has moments of genuine affection towards Georgie, while in the manga Georgie mentions that she doesn't have a single happy memory with her mother.
  • It's All My Fault: She completely regrets telling Georgie the truth, and blames herself for destroying the family.
  • My Beloved Smother: She doesn't seem to accept the idea that her children are drifting away from her, preferring her own kids over Groegie, and this has led her to grow a deep resentment against Georgie that she clearly doesn't deserve.
  • Parental Favoritism: She punishes Georgie more often for lesser offenses she lets Abel and Arthur get away with.
  • Parents as People: She does care about her children, but is particularly strict with Georgie and blames her for her husband's death (though she never outright tells her that she should have died). She isn't outright abusive, but is bitter to her. According to Georgie in the manga, she has never even hugged her. She eventually snaps and reveals to Georgie that she is not her daughter and kicks her out. Arthur witnesses this and Mary begs him not to leave her, but he calls her a cruel woman and goes after Georgie. She ends up regretting this since it alienates her sons, as well as the fact she eventually realized she did indeed care for Georgie all this time, leaving her to die alone of a broken heart.

    Uncle Kevin

Voiced by: Kyōsuke Maki (Japanese), Horst Raspe (German), Unknown (Italian), Jo Doumerg (French), Gunnar Ernblad (Swedish), Félix Acaso (European Spanish), Federico Menescal (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Falah Hashim (Arabic)

The uncle of Abel, Arthur and Georgie. An old man with a farm near Batman's house. He is also a good advisor to Georgie's brothers.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kevin_39.png
  • Cool Uncle: To Georgie, Abel and Arthur.
  • Deliberate Values Dissonance: A strange case. In the anime Georgie or his siblings sometimes go to him for advice, and some of them could be considered quite dubious if viewed with modern day eyes (Example: telling Georgie that her mother is severe with her for being a girl , or tell her that Abel is possessive towards her for having a very pretty sister) but that for the time in which the story is set they made sense. That said, some advice seems to be more like a way to prevent Georgie from knowing that she was adopted or that her siblings were in love with her, than a real belief in them, and other advice if they were more understandable, such as when he convinced Mary to let Georgie go to school or when he told Arthur that he had to consider Georgie's feelings.

    Catherine Barnes

Voiced by: Mami Koyama (Japanese), Claudia Lössl (German), Susanna Fassetta (Italian), Geneviève Taillade (French), Beatrice Järås (Swedish), Amparo Bravo (European Spanish), Meritxell Ané (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Unknown (Arabic)

Daughter of Viscount Barnes, a British nobleman. Innocently she falls in love with Georgie, who has dressed up as a sailor to travel to England. After discovering that Georgie is actually a girl, she became a best friend and supported her in the fight against the most difficult fate.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/catherine_31.png
  • Attractive Bent-Gender: She falls in love with Joe Buttman, without knowing that she's actually a girl dressed up as a boy.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Although considering that she is nine years old this is understandable.
  • Cheerful Child: She is very happy all the time.
  • Daddy's Girl: She is this for her father.
  • Genki Girl: Being a nine year old girl, she is quite energetic.
  • Precocious Crush: Catherine who is nine falls in love with Joe (Georgie), who is fourteen.
  • Rich Suitor, Poor Suitor: Implied. In the last chapter of the manga when we see the growth of Abel Jr., Catherine mentions that she wants him to grow up fast so that they can marry soon, to which Joy contradicts her by saying that Abel Jr. is going to marry her.
  • Thinks Like a Romance Novel: Even Georgie is surprised that such a young girl can say such cheesy things that even she would be embarrassed.

    Joy
A girl who sells matches, Abel meets her in England and helps her to find Georgie.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/joy_36.png
  • Big Brother Worship: A surrogate brother version, she loves Abel like an older brother and tries to help him as much as she can.
  • Disappeared Dad: The only relative of her who has been seen is her mother. Her father never appears.

    Count Fritz Gerald

Voiced by: Masaki Tsukada (Japanese), Walter von Hauff (German), Rodolfo Bianchi (Italian), Jean-Pierre Malardé (French), Gunnar Ernblad (Swedish), Diego Martín (European Spanish), Oriol Rafel (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Unknown (Arabic)

Georgie's biological father, who was wrongly accused of murder against the queen by Duke Dangling, who seeks him to kill him and prevent him from revealing his plans.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gerald_2.png
  • Blue Blood: His family are nobles from England.
  • Determinator: He never gives up hope of finding his daughter, and the fact that he was charged as a criminal and the Duke is still trying to kill him doesn't deter him.
  • Good Parents: When he finally reunites with Georgie, he proves to be a caring and loving father who is more than willing to help her and her adoptive brothers.
  • Papa Wolf: Not only for Georgie but also for her adoptive brothers, as she sees them as her brothers Gerald also considers them his sons.
  • Parental Abandonment: Not by choice, since he was falsely accused of attempted murder and being arrested.
  • Walking Spoiler: It is impossible to say anything about him without mentioning that he is Georgie's biological father and that he was falsely accused by Dangling of attempted murder.

    Maria Dangling

Voiced by: Runa Akiyama (Japanese), Inez Günther (German), Francesco Guadagno (Italian), Geneviève Taillade (French), Unknown (Swedish), Unknown (European Spanish), Inés Moraleda (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Unknown (Arabic)

Duke Dangering's niece. She is in love with Arthur.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/maria_dangering.png
  • Foil: To Jessica. They are both girls who are in love with a Buttman brother (Jessica with Abel, and Maria with Arthur), but Jessica is a selfish and possessive girl who is willing to pay a man to kill Georgie, and is constantly rejected by Abel, while Maria is a kind and sweet girl who really cares about Arthur and is never rejected by him (although this is because Duke Dangling and Irwin have him as a prisoner and force him to act as her fiancé) and she doesn't feel any resentment towards Georgie.
  • Honey Trap: A nonsexual example. She flirts with one of the guards in Arthur's cell, to convince him to drink a tea with liquor that will make him sleep and so Georgie's father and Abel take the opportunity to free Arthur.
  • Nice Girl: A very gentle and kind girl, in contrast with the rest of her family.
  • Silk Hiding Steel: An elegant and delicate Proper Lady like Maria who conspires with Georgie secretly to free Arthur from the cell.
  • White Sheep: In a family where everybody in it are jerkasses, Maria seems to be the only one who is really a good person.

Antagonists

Dangling family

    Dangling family
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul: In the manga, Elise and Arthur were the Duke's nephew and niece. In the anime, they're his children.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: The duke is a drug dealer who wants to overtake the United Kingdom by assassinating the Queen, whereas his nephew is a Depraved Homosexual rapist and his niece is a rude Rich Bitch.
  • Jerkass: Because they grew up in wealth, all three are haughty and have a complex about being superior, and believe they can get away with doing whatever they want.
  • Rich Bitch: Their wealth is a vehicle for them to commit heinous acts and serve their heightened sense of self.

    Duke Dangling

Voiced by: Yoshiro Kitahara (Japanese), Walter Reichelt (German), Unknown (Italian), Laurent Hilling (French), Unknown (Swedish), Jesus Olmedo (European Spanish), José Félix Pons (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Tariq Abdul-Atif (Arabic)

A British socialist involved in drug trafficking behind the scenes.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/duke_dangering.png

  • Assassination Attempt: Duke Dangling is planning on assassinating Queen Victoria, and he has Georgie's dad arrested for trying to expose him.
  • Big Bad: He's the reason behind the main conflicts in the story, being responsible for Arthur's kidnapping and Georgie being separated from Fritz.
  • Final Boss: He becomes the final obstacle that the three Buttman siblings have to face.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Despite being a cruel man, there were times when he seemed to really care about his nieces Elise and Maria. This however fades when he says directly that he only wants United Kingdom and loving other people is useless.

    Irwin Dangling

Voiced by: Sho Hayami (Japanese), Christian Weygand (German), Oliviero Dinelli (Italian), Unknown (French), Unknown (Swedish), Daniel Sánchez (European Spanish), Miquel Bonet (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Unknown (Arabic)

Nephew and successor of Duke Dangling. He is obsessed with Arthur.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/irwin_4.png
  • Bloodlust: He wants to kill Arthur himself, while also having an implied attraction to him.
  • The Dragon: He is Duke Dangling's second in command.
  • Depraved Homosexual: He's obsessed with Arthur and it's implied that he violated him while they had kidnapped him.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: It's implied he has a certain affection for his sister, since he convinces his uncle not to kill Arthur because Maria has become fond of him.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: His hair hangs over his shoulders and he's a very handsome boy.
    Elise Dangling

Voiced by: Sakiko Tamagawa (Japanese), Linda Joy (German), Laura Mercatali (Italian), Brigitte Aubry (French), Unknown (Swedish), Eva Díez (European Spanish), Mar Roca (Catalan Spanish), Rosa Quiroga (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Unknown (Arabic)

The fiance of Lowell. Niece of Duke of Dangling, a prestigious British aristocrat.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elise_64.png
  • Adaptational Karma: In the manga she hardly receives any punishment for her bad deeds, not only is it mentioned that she regrets what she did to Georgie (although she never apologizes directly to her if we are to the case) but also Lowell ends up falling in love and deciding marry her. In anime, on the contrary, after the arrest of Duke Dangling she acquires a bad reputation for being his niece. In this version not only is it clear that Lowell is never going to love her, but also he is so resentful of being abandoned by Georgie that he Took Alevel In Jerkass and has no problem in publicly humiliating her(and it is implied that she will have to go on living this forever).
  • All Love Is Unrequited: She is in love with Lowell but he views her like a sister. This changes later.
  • Alpha Bitch: Especially in the way she treats Georgie at the party.
  • Aristocrats Are Evil: As she was introduced at the beginning.
  • Betty and Veronica: The Veronica to Georgie's Betty for Lowell's Archie.
  • Dub Name Change: She is Elise in German, Catalan and French.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: When Lowell mentions that he plans to renounce the aristocracy for Georgie, Elise tells him that he knows him well and is the type who cannot live in poverty after knowing luxury. She is right.
  • Love Epiphany: At first, she didn't care for Lowell until nearly dying of tuberculosis, when she realized she does love him. She also becomes noticeably kinder after this.
  • Perfectly Arranged Marriage: Subverted at first. However after Elise's character development, Lowell falls in love with her and decides that it is with her that he wants to be with
  • Spoiled Brat: She firmly believes that upper class people have superiority over the poor and have no problem publicly humiliating them.
  • Tender Tomboyishness, Foul Femininity: She is a mean and girly Rich Bitch, while Georgie is a nice and cheerful tomboy.

Miscellaneous

    Jessica

Voiced by: Eiko Yamada (Japanese), Carin Tietze (German), Cristina Boraschi (Italian), Geneviève Taillade (French), Unknown (Swedish), Alicia Sáinz De La Maza (European Spanish), Unknown (Catalan Spanish), Unknown (European Portugeuse), Unknown (Tagalog), Unknown (Arabic)

Abel's "friend", and the daughter of a sailor. She is in love with Abel.
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/675.jpg
  • Adaptational Nice Guy: In the manga, after learning that Abel loves another girl, she states that she will pray for that girl to die. In the anime she just says she will fight with all her strength to make Abel fall in love with her.
    • In the manga she also pays a man to kill Georgie on the trip, while in the anime she simply recommends her a boat to get her away from Abel.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: She is in love with Abel, who is in love with Georgie.
  • Betty and Veronica: While Georgie is the sweet, girl-next-door Betty, Jessica is rude, brash and a delinquent with an attitude, making her Veronica.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Because the anime hit her with a case of Adaptational Nice Guy, her extremely possessive love for Abel was downplayed to this.
  • Lady in Red: She always wears a red dress and is presumed to be a prostitute.
  • Love Makes You Evil: She convinces Georgie to go on a ship as a crew boy, and paid someone to kill her so she can have Abel for herself.

  • Yandere: She hires a hitman to kill Georgie after discovering that Abel loves her.
