Main Entities

    Figure
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/figure2.png
I’ve got you all figured out!
The main hostile entity for Floor 1 and possibly Floor 2.
  • Arc Villain: You encounter it in both the Library (Door 50) and the Electrical Room (Door 100) on Floor 1 and it continues to stalk you throughout. It acts as the major and only threat in the rooms you encounter it.
  • Creepily Long Arms: It has long creepy arms which it drags across the floor and stumbles around with angrily, adding to a horrifying hostile feel.
  • Evil Is Bigger: It's extremely tall and out for your blood.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: One of El Goblino's lines has him mention that the "macho-meat-düd" came through Jeff's shop before, implying that he can go anywhere in the Hotel. Gameplay-wise, you never encounter it outside Rooms 50 and 100.
  • Kill It with Fire: In Room 100, an exposed wire sparks a massive fire that makes the Figure jump out a window.
  • Lamprey Mouth: One that takes up its entire face.
  • Sense-Impaired Monster: It's in the page image. Due to its design lacking any sorts of eyes, it'll only chase anyone making sound like walking or collecting books. The most common way to evade it is to crouch.
  • Signature Roar: It always has a guttural (maybe even from the chest) roar that rolls, load and clear, usually signify when it has detected someone or is enraged.
  • Skeletal Appendage: Its ribs are casually exposed.
  • Super-Hearing: Its main way of locating you, since it has no eyes. Any kind of noise will alert it, including books being taken out of shelves.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Its appearance in Room 100. Room 100 was mostly spent on the breaker puzzle, leaving the Figure itself a non-issue for most of the room. As of Hotel+, the Electrical Room has been heavily reconstructed to make the Figure a constant threat, as you first have to find and collect the switches while the Figure hunts you down. Once you complete the breaker minigame, it will break through the door in the breaker room to make a last attempt to catch you.
  • Turns Red: If one player open the library doors and the others fail to reach it before Figure does, it will double its speed and hunt them down, automatically knowing their locations. It will also gain the ability to pull any players out of a closet without the QTE minigame and kill them. Needless to say, once this starts to happen, run for your life.

    Guiding Light
A seemingly benevolent entity, guiding the player and assisting them.
  • Ambiguous Gender: While most of the entities don't have a visible gender, Guiding Light's case is even more curious. Since the game doesn't have voice acting or a model for Guiding Light, you can't tell if it is female, male or neither, like all the other entities.
  • Blue Is Heroic: Is represented by a blue glow and is so far the only entity who's on your side.
  • Deadpan Snarker: If you die to a certain entity several times, it's tone will go from relatively neutral to a bit sarcastic, as if it can't believe that with all the advice it's given you you're still screwing up.
  • Game-Over Man: Informs the player which entity killed them and gives tips on how to avoid it in the future.
  • Light Is Good: It makes its presence known through a soft, blue glow and unlike the other entities it doesn't harm you in any way. On the contrary, its light shows the player where to go, helping them to progress and hopefully exit the Hotel. The most blatant example is in the library, where it somehow knocks down a lamp to distract Figure from immediately gunning for you upon entering.
  • Mysterious Protector: Why is it helping you, when all the other entities are trying to kill or hinder you? It doesn't say.
  • No Fair Cheating: Getting the bright idea to cheat and subsequently dying to Ambush will have it completely change its tone with you, saying "bruh" around twenty times and gleefully informing you that your revives are now in the negatives thanks to Ambush killing you "infinite times."
  • Token Good Teammate: So far it is the only entity who doesn't harm the player in some way and even goes out of its way to help them survive.

Recurring Entities

    Rush
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/doors_rush.PNG
The most common character you'll encounter throughout the game. It's a smiling shadow-like ghost.

  • Berserk Button: The achievement you get for being killed by it for the first time implies it wants to get through the rooms as fast as possible and gets pissed when someone, intentionally or not, keeps it from doing that.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Didn't get out of its way fast enough? Have a nice death!
  • Expy: It's based off of Rooms' A-60, the Multi Monster that crashes through the room, killing anybody who isn't hiding in a locker.
  • Hell Is That Noise: Upon attacking, it makes a sound similar to a distorted scream of some sort, which also alerts you to its arrival. Listening for this sound becomes crucial in the greenhouse, as there aren't any flickering lights indicating its arrival there.
  • Living Shadow: It is made out of dark particles that heavily resemble shadows.
  • Meaningful Name: Its name is "Rush" and it rushes through every room it enters.
  • Perpetual Smiler: It always has the same wide smile when encountering the player.

    Screech
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screech2.png
Psst...
A small black blob that will attack you if you ignore it.
  • Dirty Coward: It will stalk the player and go so far as to bite them when they least expect it, but if the player locates it in time it'll just scream and run away without doing anything.
  • Don't Look At Me: You have to look directly at Screech to ward it off. Merely glancing at it won't work.
  • Hell Is That Noise: When it's close, it will make a "psst!" sound. Once it does, you have to look for it quick, because it will attack.
  • Jump Scare: If you notice it in time and manage to look directly at it, it will still leap at you, but won't do any harm.

    Seek
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/seek2.png
Hey, it’s me, Seek-Chan”

An all-black, slimy creature with a singular eye.

  • Blob Monster: It seems to consist of some form of black slime.
  • Car Fu: In the April Fools update, it drives a car, which it tries to run you over with.
  • Eye Motifs: Is heavily associated with eyes, relating to how it looks for you, and then sets its eyes on you from the walls once it finds you, waiting for you to walk into the chase.
  • Humanoid Abomination: The form it takes upon emerging from the slime is a slim humanoid whose face is a massive eye.
  • Leitmotif: Whenever Seek shows up, it's backed by "Here I Come", a frantic track that perfectly matches the chase sequence that follows.
  • Shapeshifting: It shifts into a human form from a puddle on the floor and manifests several arms and eyes to observe and catch the player.
  • Tendrils of Darkness: Uses huge dark tentacles in the final sprint in one last attempt to catch you.
  • The Walls Have Eyes: Something to be deathly aware of, as they signal that you're about to encounter Seek.

    Eyes
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eyes_37.png
Last chance to look at me.
Well, a bundle of eyes.
  • Don't Look At Me: Anyone who looks at Eyes will take 10 damage and subsequently die if stared at for too long.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In the regular mode, Eyes is a rare-to-occasional sight to the point where you'll be (un)lucky to see it more than two times in a single run. That changes in Super Hard Mode where it will appear significantly more often.

    Ambush
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/scar_ywormface.png
I’m not done!
A ghastly white figure who has a chance to replace Rush.
  • Elite Mook: The closest the game has to one, as it has a rare chance of replacing Rush in situations that fit them.
  • Ghostly Gape: Unlike Rush, who's a Perpetual Smiler, Ambush perpetually has this kind of expression.
  • Meaningful Name: Its name is Ambush, and when it appears, it'll dart straight through the room. Players need to hide somewhere when this happens, since Ambush will backtrack and ambush whoevers in plain sight.
  • No Fair Cheating: Trying to use cheats on the game will force you to take a look at this guy's handsome mug.

    Halt
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/halt.png
“Um, hey guys, it’s me, Halt…”
A dark-blue sheet ghost-like creature.
  • Interface Screw: The screen goes entirely blue, and "TURN BACK" and "RUN" will flash on the screen when Halt starts appearing.
  • Meaningful Name: Named Halt, and forces you to halt and back away.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Halt pretty much forces you to play with this one, as it appears at the end of the hallway, you'll need to backtrack...only for Halt to appear at the beginning of the hallway, forcing you to go back and forth until the coast is made clear.

    Hide
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/hidefixed2.png
STAY. OUT!
An unseen entity who resides in hiding spots.
  • Get Out!: Its main purpose. With certain exceptions, anyone hiding in a closet for too long will suffer a bit of Interface Screw and have a few seconds to leave the hiding place before Hide shoves them out, damages them, and leaves them unable to hide again for a few seconds. Pray that Rush or Ambush aren't attacking if that happens.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: It has no physical appearance. The only reason we know it's an entity is because the Guiding Light says so.
  • Took a Level in Badass: The time you can hide in a closet is shortened in Super Hard Mode. While you can hide for 7 to 12 seconds in the regular mode, depending on how far you are in the run, you'll be lucky if you can hide for around 4 seconds from the start.

    Glitch
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/glitch11.png
IT APPEARS AN ERROR HAS OCCURED. PLEASE WAIT.
A humanoid creature that, as the name implies, happens to also be a Glitch Entity.
  • Canon Discontinuity: According to Word of God, Glitch is non-canon. While El Goblino references it in one of his dialogues, the creator also confirmed that it will be updated for consistency.
  • Decomposite Character: Glitch keeps you away from room loading errors, but it also used to warp you to your allies when lagging behind, which is now the purpose of Void.
  • Glitch Entity: It's a being covered in colorful, glitchy squares that only shows up if something is wrong with the game.
  • Never Split the Party: It used to do this, as lagging too far behind to the point your current room would despawn would result in Glitch teleporting you to the most recent room, damaging you in the process. In the Hotel+ update, Void replaces it and Glitch now only shows up as a fail-safe if the game bugs out. It maintains this role for The Rooms, although like Void, it won't damage you if you lag behind.
  • Noble Demon: Possibly, as its Jump Scare if you encounter it doesn't do any damage. Justified in the case of room loading errors, meaning Glitch has to act as a failsafe.

    Dupe
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dupe_image2.png
You’ve been duped
A mimic-like creature that disguises itself as a door. Picking the wrong door will result in it jumpscaring and damaging you for 40 health.
  • Meaningful Name: DOUBLE-Meaningful Name, even. Dupe pretty much turns into a duplicate of a door to dupe, or fool, anyone who tries to find an exit.
  • Mimic Species: Seems to be apart of one, and a pretty good one too.
  • Nightmare Face: Its entire appearance, and Jesus fuck, could it put Ambush to shame.

    Snare
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/snare_entity.png
You'll never see it coming. Literally.
A series of small vines that can ensnare players found in the Greenhouse.
  • Meaningful Name: Its sole purpose is to ensnare players so Rush or Ambush can kill them.
  • Support Party Member: It deals only a small amount of damage and it can't kill you, but it makes it easier for Rush and Ambush to kill you.

    Void
Don't lag behind now.
A mysterious, faceless creature that appears to be nothing but a darkened space, who strikes at people alone... and reunites them with their friends.
  • Cat Scare: Its manifestation is sudden with the room its target is in darkening suddenly to pitch black and then taking them away in a bright flash - and then its target is just next to the other players.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: When you are all alone, this shadowy force will... carry you along to the others at the price of some health. That being said, it can and will kill you if your health is too low.
  • Living Shadow: It seems to be nothing but a darkened space.

    Jefftholomew Von Tentickle
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jeff_60.png
Buy? Please?
Otherwise known as Jeff, he's a tentacled creature who runs the Jeff Shop.

    El Goblino
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/el_goblino.png
"Oye, I hope you enjoy your stay."
A goblin creature that has taken refuse in Jeff's shop along with Bob.
  • Ambiguous Situation: They mention a purple thing that looks like Seek. This could refer to Glitch or Eyes, but nothing is clarified either way.
  • Greek Chorus: They'll give random dialogue that serves no real purpose. Well, aside from referencing the Rooms entrance in Room 60.
  • Latin Lover: They mention their amor gave them their earring.
  • Unreliable Narrator: He mentions that he and Bob ambushed Eyes at some point and gave it quite the beating. While he is a different species than the player and thus Eyes might not affect him as much, try to directly confront Eyes in-game without a Crucifix or Holy Hand Grenadenote  and you'll be dead in only a couple seconds just by looking at it.
    Bob Skellyfriend
A skeleton that's sitting next to El Goblino in Jeff's shop. El Goblino heavily implies that Rush killed him in the Greenhouse area after he stepped on Snare. However, El Goblino seems blissfully unaware of this and continues to treat his friend like he's still alive.
    Dread
A many-eyed face that attacks in Door 13.

The Secret Subfloor UNMARKED SPOILERS

    General Tropes
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1702.png
A secret subfloor accessed in Room 60 that serves as a homage to Rooms, one of its inspirations.
  • Adaptational Dye-Job: A-60 originally changed appearance between six images every time it appeared, but its appearance in Doors is based on its second face (with two dot eyes and a fleshy grin) covered in pink static. A-120 is also pixelated, with multicolored static pixels surrounding it.
  • April Fools' Day: Trying to access the Rooms in Super Hard Mode will instead teleport you to a completely different game titled Survive and Kill the Killers in Area 51!!!.
  • Bragging Rights Reward: The Scanner, a powerful item with no limit on usage time that grants night vision and the ability to see items needed to progress such as keys and switches through obstructions, can only be obtained by reaching A-1000 in the Rooms, an extremely difficult and time-consuming task.
  • Brutal Bonus Level: The Rooms are the most difficult challenge currently in the game and you need to have a Skeleton Key, two lockpicks, and reach Room 60 to even attempt it. While you only have to deal with 3 entities for a minimum of 200 rooms, getting all of the achievements requires you to go through all 1000 rooms, ten times the length of a Doors run, which can take hours to accomplish. All of the entities kill you in one hit (two in A-90's case) and you are not able to revive, meaning you have to play almost perfectly if you want to reach the end.
  • Embedded Precursor: A passageway in door 60 can be opened up using a Skeleton Key and 2 lockpicks to reveal a near-exact replica of DOORS' inspiration, Rooms, complete with its own set of entities and the Shakelight and Scanner unique to the Rooms.
  • Fake Difficulty: A-60 and A-120 are mutually exclusive; being attacked by one means the other cannot appear. A-90 is exempt from this and can attack alongside the other Monsters.
  • Meaningful Name: The monsters in the Rooms are named after the room they start appearing innote , to the point that A-200 is renamed to A-120 due to first appearing in Room A-120. This is invoked by the Curious Light, saying it'd be easy to name them after where they start to appear.
  • Monster Progenitor: In a meta sense, as these guys come from Doors' primary inspiration. More directly, Rush is directly based off of A-60, alongside Ambush.
  • No Name Given: The Curious Light assigns the entities names based on where they appear. Word of God dubs A-60 "The Multi Monster" and A-200 "The Happy Scribble," but A-90 remains unnamed due to being original to Doors.
  • Shout-Out: A wholesale one to Rooms, the main inspiration of Doors.
    The Multi Monster
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a_60_doors.png
"Oh... the red one. I'm not too sure on what I would call it... Well, it usually attacks around room A-60, so... you could just call it A-60. I don't know."
An entity that appears more frequently after Room A-60. Known as "The Multi Monster," it is a crimson entity with a wide grin.
  • Elite Mook: A-60 is an exact replica of Rush in terms of behavior, but since the Rooms lack lights to flicker, it's harder to determine when A-60 will attack.
  • Expy Coexistence: This was the entity that Rush was based off of.
     A 90
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a_90_idle.png
Don’t make a move.
Blocked
Jumpscare
An entity that frequently appears after Room A-90.
  • Big "NO!": Lets out a rather familiar one when jumpscaring the player.
  • Jump Scare: When it appears and player don't stop moving, it will jumpscare them and damage them by 90 health. It is also worth noting that it is the only entity in Rooms that has a jumpscare.
  • Original Generation: While A-60 and A-120 come from Rooms, A-90 is completely original to Doors.
    The Happy Scribble
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/a_120_idle.png
Something is preventing you from opening the door.
An entity that frequently appears after Room A-120. Known as "The Happy Scribble," it takes the appearance of a crude, squiggly smile.
    The Curious Light
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/curious_light_icon_4.png
An entity similar to the Guiding Light. Though this entity seems to be less experienced.
  • Contrasting Sequel Main Character: The Curious Light seems to have some sort of agenda, stating that it would be helpful if you got to the end of the Rooms. It also is not as omnipotent as the Guiding Light.

The Backdoor

    General Tropes
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1703.png
A subfloor that takes place before the main floor. It was made as a part of the 2024 Hunt Event before becoming a permanent part of the game after it concluded.
  • Bragging Rights Reward: The Bottle of Starlight, a modified version of the vial of starlight that temporarily lights up the area and boosts the health and speed of the player, can only be obtained by completing the Backdoor.
  • Brutal Bonus Level: The Backdoors applies as this. To even access the Backdoor, you need the Detour badge, meaning that you need to access the Rooms before hand. Although there's only two monstersnote , you're on a time limit, and two of the monsters can be described as a walking Eyes and a combination of Rush and Ambush on steroids.
  • Meaningful Name: For the entities in the Backdoor, Lookman's mechanic focuses on not looking at them. Haste, which you have to be quick so you don't run out of time. Blitz "blitzes" across the room, looking for players to kill, while Vacuum seems to be an empty void that sucks players in if they enter the wrong doors.
  • Songs in the Key of Panic: The Backdoor timer plays a slow but loud ambience. Once the timer hits 30 seconds, the ambience changes, becoming extremely loud. In the final 5 seconds, the audio becomes distorted, leading to the spawning of Haste.
  • Timed Mission: The player is given one minute to go through all 50 rooms in the Backdoor, lest Haste become active and chase them down. Since this is impossible to do, they have to utilize the levers provided by the Curious Light to extend the time.
    The Lookman
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1697.png
Someone’s watching...
An entity with an appearance of a shadowy humanoid silhouette that is similar to Eyes.
  • Elite Mook: In terms of behavior, the Lookman behaves similar to Eyes. Although it has the ability to temporarily impair the player’s vision and appears more often.
    Blitz
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1698_9.png
"She said we should call that one Blitz."
Rebound
An entity similar to Rush that appears only in the Backdoor.
  • Composite Character: Although Blitz is primarily based on Rush, it also shares traits from Ambush, since it has a chance of rebounding.
    Haste
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/img_1700.png
NO TIME LEFT
An entity with an appearance of a red skull that appears if you run out of time.
    Vacuum
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_8918.png
Watch where you're going next time. The vacuum is dangerous.
An entity that functions similarly to Dupe and only appears in the Backdoor. It disguises itself as an unnumbered door and kills an unsuspecting player by sucking them into a dark, empty void.
  • One-Hit Kill: Opening an unnumbered door and blindly trying to enter it will result in the player plummeting to their deaths.
  • Disney Villain Death: What the player's fate will be if they get sucked in. The only way to avoid this is to immediately step back from the door once you open it.

April Fools "Super Hard Mode" Exclusive Entities

    Jeff the Killer
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/1000_81.png
GO TO SLEEP.
An entity based off the creepypasta of the same name. He has a chance to spawn in any room in Super Hard Mode, is guaranteed to spawn after the Courtyard, and deals 60 damage on contact with the player.
  • Mighty Glacier: He can kill you in two hits without any shield potions and can attack you through closets, but he's quite slow. It's easy to outrun him if you manage to spot him first. As such, the only threat he poses are when he surprises you at low health or when there's a more dangerous monster closing in.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Sports a Slasher Smile all the time.
    Evil Key
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_2_29.png
A key in the reception area that kills you upon interacting with it.
  • Press Start to Game Over: An instakilling trap right at the start of your run. How nice.
  • Schmuck Bait: Serves as this towards anybody new to the game mode, if the Jeff the Killer image or the different-looking room didn't give it away.
    Greed
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_1_64.png
A monster with only its mouth filled with sharp teeth being visible. When the player picks up gold too quickly, it will slowly fill the screen for each subsequent pick up. Ignoring the warnings and continuing to collect will cause it to jumpscare them, dealing 100 damage and killing them if they didn't have any shields.
    Subspace Tripmine
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_559.png
An entity that replaces Dupe in Super Hard Mode, acting as a buffed version of it.
  • Balance Buff: Dupe only dealt 40 damage to a player who opened the fake door, which can't be opened again afterwards. Subspace Tripmine, on the other hand, deals 190 damage towards not only the player who opened it, but to anybody who happens to be nearby as well. Unless you happen to have full health and full shields, this results in instant death. And it can be opened more than once in case another player didn't see it, or ignores the pink glow surrounding it.
    Banana Peel
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/latest_3_2.png
A banana peel. The entity (if you can even call it that) can cause a player to slip if stepped on, momentarily stunning them and dealing 10 damage.
  • The Goomba: The most common obstacle in Super Hard Mode, with Eyes possibly tying for first place. While they're easy to avoid on their own, they're littered everywhere and slipping on one can be deadly when a more dangerous enemy is closing in.
  • Not Completely Useless: The majority of the time, banana peels are more of a nuisance than a threat...unless you're face-to-face with Jeff the Killer. He's the only enemy that can slip on them, allowing more crafty players to use them to their advantage and slip by when they don't have a Holy Hand Grenade or Shield Potions handy.
    Rush Replacements
In the Super Hard Mode from the April Fools 2023 update, there is a random chance that Rush will be replaced by a different, functionally identical entity.
  • Ascended Fanon: Three of them, Matcher, Barrage, and Depth, were originally fan made entities before appearing in the April Fools update.
  • Body Horror: Matcher seems to be an indescribable mass of flesh with eyes.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Two of them, Trollface and Depth, already appeared in the game before the April Fools update (Trollface in a few Kreekcraft streams, Depth on a painting).
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Barrage has a ton of glowing eyes on their face.
  • Fighting Clown: Despite the silly appearance of most of them, they can kill you instantly like Rush.
  • Guest Fighter: Matcher originated from a fangame called Endless Doors.
  • Palette Swap: Of Rush; the behavior is the same, but the appearances are not.

Alternative Title(s): Doors
