Blue SWAT

    In General
A team dedicated to fighting the Space Mafia's Alien Invasion.
  • Blue Is Heroic: They're Blue SWAT and they're the heroes.
  • Cool Shades: All three of them wear darkened sunglasses while in their uniforms.
  • Experienced Protagonist: With the exception of Sarah, since her LEO experience was from the LAPD, Show was recruited directly as a civilian with Sig being a dead person initially.
  • Oddly Small Organization: Played With. They start out a large organization with many members, but are almost completely wiped out in the first episode, leaving Show, Sarah and Sig as the only survivors. The three choose to carry on fighting aliens and keep using the name, but even after they recruit Seiji and Sumire that only brings them up to five.
  • Power Trio: Show, Sarah and Sig are a trio of alien-fighting, special police officers.
  • Theme Naming: They all have names that start with "S", even Seiji and Sumire.
  • Transformation Sequence: Another aversion. They don't transform and instead physically put on their suits.
  • Two Guys and a Girl: Show, Sarah and Sig.

    Show Narumi

Show Narumi (Number 153)

Portrayed by: Souji Masaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/show_narumi_ep1.jpg
A track athlete who became a part of Blue SWAT for the money, at least at first.
  • Blue Is Heroic: He's the only Blue SWAT member who's armor is actually blue.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Starts off a Jerk Jock who's Only in It for the Money, who even quits Blue SWAT initially when there's no source of income, but his conscience eventually gets the better of him and he rejoins the group.
  • The Lancer: He's technically The Hero, but within Blue SWAT he's Sarah's laidback and cocky partner.
  • The McCoy: The most laidback and passionate member of the group.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: Is given the power to become the silver "Hyper Show" midway through by calling upon Gold-Platinum.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Episode 32 feels like it was just an excuse to have him running around in a speedo. The ending also features him riding a bike while wearing little clothing.
  • Odd Friendship: Show is a Jerk Jock With a Heart of Gold who doesn't care much for aliens. Seiji is a geeky computer nerd who's really interested in aliens. Despite this, the two get along quite well.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: He and Sarah often snipe at each other, but they truly care for one another.
    Sarah Misugi

Sarah Misugi (Number 077)

Portrayed by: Yuka Shiratori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sarah_misugi_ep1.jpg
A former Los Angeles police officer who joined Blue SWAT after losing her partner to a Space Mafia member.
  • Action Girl: She's tough, agile and has losts of experience with a pistol in her hands. When the team spars with each other, she manages to take on Show and Sig at once and defeat them both singlehandedly.
  • But Not Too Foreign: A female Japanese-American officer.
  • The Kirk: She's not as stoic as Sig, but she's also not as much of a hot-shot as Show.
  • The Leader: While Show is The Hero, she's the de facto leader of the team.
  • Purple Is Powerful: Her armor is purple and she's quite skilled in combat.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The tough and skilled tomboy to Sumire's cheery and naive girly girl.
    Sig

Sig (Number 011)

Portrayed by: Tsutomu Sano

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sig_ep1.jpg
A taciturn member of Blue SWAT and the partner of Show and Sarah. Revealed to be an alien early on.
  • Alien Blood: The first hint Show and Sarah get to his true nature as an alien is when he's shot and bleeds green blood.
  • Demonic Possession: As with the Space Mafia aliens, he took a human host when he came to Earth in order to blend in. Unlike the Space Mafia, he at least chose a brain-dead cadaver who wasn't truly alive anyway.
  • Parental Substitute: For Zaji. It's complicated in that he's an alien possessing his real father's dead body, but because he inherited his memories he has a great deal of care for the boy.
  • Space Police: Before he came to Earth, Sig was a member of a "Space SWAT" that fought the Space Mafia until it was destroyed by them.
  • The Spock: The most taciturn and logical member of the group.

    Gold-Platinum

Gold-Platinum

Voiced by: Masaki Terasoma

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gold_platinum_ep23.jpg
A space-time protector who comes to Earth to help Blue SWAT fight against the Space Mafia, giving Show his Mid-Season Upgrade.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Is gold, as his name would suggest, and one of the most powerful characters in the show.
  • Satellite Character: Gold-Platinum's only role in 90% of his appearances is to give Show his super mode.
  • Sixth Ranger: Appears midway through and while he isn't actually a member of the team, he occasionally joins them in their fights.

Blue Research

    Seiji Usami

Seiji Usami

Portrayed by: Yuuki Tanaka

A former researcher at a Think Tank with an interest in aliens, who joined Blue SWAT after intercepting one of their transmissions.
  • Mission Control: His main role is to sit back in the team van and provide reconnaissence and data to the team.
  • Non-Action Guy: Since he doesn't have the training Show, Sig and Sarah do, he doesn't ever fight and instead helps the team with mostly technological matters.
  • Odd Friendship: Gets along well with Show, even though the two have differing interests.
  • The Smart Guy: He's the team's resident computer expert, tech guy and intel gatherer.
  • Smart People Wear Glasses: Wears glasses and is The Smart Guy of the team.
    Sumire Asou

Sumire Asou

Portrayed by: Chiko Kanseki

A cheerful but ditzy girl who's hired to serve as receptionist for Blue Research, a public front run by Show, Sarah and Sig.
  • Good Is Dumb: She's quite ditzy and not the brightest bulb, but she's also the most outwardly nice of the team.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: She's initially the only one unaware that Blue Research is really a front for fighting aliens. By episode 12 she starts to become suspicious after seeing Show, Sarah and Sig listed as dead in a local paper. By an episode later she's discovered the truth and been let into the loop.

Space Mafia

    In General
An alien crime syndicate conducting a covert invasion of Earth by body-jacking humans.
  • Alien Invasion: They've been secretly invading Earth for an undetermined amount of time. They also draw a notable distinction between conquering the planet and destroying it, which is why they're bodyjacking people to invade instead of just employing the "send Monster of the Week to rampage" strategy other invaders before them have done.
  • Appropriated Appellation: Possibly. When Sig is first describing them, he uses "space mafia" as more of a descriptor for the organization rather than their specific name. When we see their executives later, they use "Space Mafia" as if it were the actual name of the group.
  • Demonic Possession: Most of their members have the power to possess humans by "invading" their bodies in order to blend in. Some can even possess inanimate objects.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: 51 episodes and we never learn why they want to conquer Earth.
  • Humanoid Aliens: They all have the general shape of humans, but physically they look nothing like us.
  • The Mafia: The Space Mafia, in fact.
  • One-Letter Name: They have a habit of using single letters (often coupled with Gratuitous French) as aliases. Queen is alternatively known as Mademoiselle Q, Jisp often uses "Monsieur J" as an alias and Q's bodyguards are known as "A" and "B".
  • Standard Evil Organization Squad: Starts out as an Omniscient Council of Vagueness, but one of the side effects of the Retool was the Space Mafia having a clearer lineup of bad guys, making them more in line with previous villain factions in the Metal Hero series.
  • Villain Decay: Hoo boy, the Space Mafia probably has the steepest decay out of any villain group in the Metal Hero series. They start off a competent and mysterious Omniscient Council of Vagueness, even managing to destroy the Blue SWAT organization in the first episode in an attack that leaves Show, Sarah and Sig the only survivors. Subsequent episodes see their executives step out from the shadows and becoming a whole lot less threatening, repeatedly trying and failing to kill three people in schemes that only get more ridiculous as the series goes on. They briefly regain some level of seriousness when Queen arrives, but the petty squabbling between her and Jisp ultimately costs the organization whatever threat level it had left. It really says something when the villains from the much more kid friendly next series manage to be more threatening and competent than you. Hell, even Cobrander and his goons at least knew how to work together properly.
    Queen

Queen/Mademoiselle Q

Portrayed by: Miyuki Nagato

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_with_servants_a_and_b_ep37.jpg
The mysterious leader of the Space Mafia.
  • A Mother to Her Men: Extremely downplayed, given her low tolerance for failure, but as psychotic as she is she seems to have an objection to attacking her own men. When Jisp brainwashes the Space Mafia into submitting to him, Queen chooses to flee from them rather than stay and fight them all off.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: She's the leader of the Space Mafia and by far their strongest member, even being able to match Gold-Platinum's power.
  • Bad Boss: Repeatedly threatens her subordinates with execution as punishment for failure, and isn't above outright abusing them to keep them in line. #47 even has her ordering two of her subordinates executed, simply because she saw them as useless and wanted to send a message, even though the two she selected were already loyal to her.
  • Big Bad: She's the true leader of the Space Mafia and the one ultimately behind their invasion of Earth.
  • Bodyguard Babes: She's typically seen being accompanied by her two attendants/enforcers - Servants A and B.
  • Cute and Psycho: She has a pretty face, but she's definitely the most Ax-Crazy person in the Space Mafia. Just look at how she laughs about her plan to smash a meteor into Earth.
  • Final Boss: The last villain faced by Blue SWAT in the series.
  • Frontline General: After she arrives on Earth, Queen actively participates in many of her Evil Plans, including disguising herself as a civilian to lure Sarah into a trap.
  • The Queenpin: She's the Space Mafia's head, and even uses "Queen" as a name.
  • Two-Faced: Half her face is young and beautiful, half of it is old and decrepit.
  • White Hair, Black Heart: Has white hair, coupled with a fierce and ruthless personality.
  • The Woman Behind the Monsters: Unlike the rest of the Space Mafia, who are aliens possessing humans, Queen has a human form she can switch in and out of.
  • You Have Failed Me: The first we hear of her is when she sends someone to terminate Jisp for his failures. She relents after seeing Jisps's tenacity and decides to keep him around for longer.
    Jisp

Jisp/Monsieur J

Portrayed by: Yuuichi Komine (voice), Shigeru Sano (Zaji), Ryuji Kasahara (second host)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jisp_ep19.jpg
The Space Mafia's Earth Attack Force Commander.
  • Arch-Enemy: For Sig, having chosen a host who's the son of Sig's human host.
  • Bad Boss: Has a very careless attitude towards his subordinates. One notable example comes in #37, when he commissions his scientists to make him a time machine and then orders them all massacred once it's completed.
  • Creepy Child: His first host is a boy no older than 13-14 years old, but that doesn't stop Jisp from sounding sinister while giving orders from him.
  • Dark Lord on Life Support: When we first see Jisp, he's communicating from behind a curtain where his human host Zaji is (literally) hooked up to life support.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: He falls in #49 after making his own grab for power, leaving Queen as the Final Boss.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: He's the commander of the Earth invasion who reports to Mademoiselle Q, but his main goal is simply a desire to get himself a planet to rule over.
  • Evil Wears Black: Wears a black uniform as Zaji. His second host also wears a black suit and mantle, borrowed from Dasmader.
  • Flanderization: He has his more bombastic moments earlier in the show, but is for the most part very reserved and calculating. Around when he gets his second host, however, Jisp becomes a lot more expressive and arrogant, while also becoming less competent in turn.
  • Forced to Watch: In #45, he possesses Sig's human host and attempts to make him kill Zaji.
  • Idiot Ball: He's done away with in the end entirely because of his own stupidity and carelessness, despite being shown to be cunning earlier in the show. He kills Doctor Aldo to cover his tracks, and then leaves his body out in the open where anyone can find it, which lets Blue SWAT get the data they need from him to stop Jisp. It's made worse by the fact that he left Doctor Aldo in a location Blue SWAT had already been to and was aware he was using.
  • Kneel Before Zod: His first act upon taking control of the Space Mafia is to make them all kneel before him.
  • Large Ham: The second host he takes is quite hammy and expressive.
  • Mid-Season Upgrade: After getting injured by Show, Jisp has himself upgraded to a much stronger form.
  • Short-Lived Leadership: His tenure as "King" Jisp lasts less than a day before his Mind Control pheromone is canceled out by Seiji, at which point Queen blasts him and retakes control.
  • The Starscream: Towards the end he plots to become "King Jisp" by overthrowing Queen to rule both the Space Mafia and Earth.
  • Villain Decay: Goes from a cunning mastermind pulling the strings from the shadows to a moustache-twirling buffoon who repeatedly makes tactical errors. Even when he's on the cusp of defeating Blue SWAT and ruling over the Space Mafia in #49, he screws it up by being nonsensically inept and lazy.
  • Villainous Breakdown: He completely freaks out before his demise, delusionally declaring himself King Jisp even as he's getting beaten.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Not Jisp, but we never find out what happens to Jisp's second human host after Jisp himself leaves his body and is killed.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Would use a comatose boy as his host, in fact.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Kills Doctor Aldo after he installs an upgrade to let Jisp Mind Control people. This bites him in the ass later as since Aldo is a cyborg, Blue SWAT can still access his memories, which they use to develop an antidote to the pheromone.
    Space Mafia Executives

Space Mafia Executives

Portrayed by Shin'ichi Satou (Zodor), Nobuyuki Nakai (Riga), Mitsuko Nishiwaki (Yanimi), Sachiko Oguri (Unnamed executive)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/space_mafia_ep3.jpg
A quartet of Space Mafia executives who are overseeing the Earth invasion.
  • Co-Dragons: They all report to Jisp, although Zodor and Riga seem to be his most direct lieutenants.
  • Dark Action Girl: Yanimi is a skilled fighter, even in her human host. Her actress is even a pro wrestler.
  • Elite Four: A quarter of Space Mafia commanders who answer directly to Jisp.
  • The Heavy: They're the ones directing the Space Mafia's operations on Earth and movements to capture protagonists.
  • No Name Given: The fourth executive, a woman in a white blouse, is never given a name.
  • Omniscient Council of Vagueness: The first time we see them they're a group of mysterious figures around a pool table commenting on the status of the invasion.
  • Satellite Character: Zodor and Riga's characterization devolves to them just being Jisp's two subordinates once he gets active.
  • Undying Loyalty: Zodor and Riga are both loyal to Jisp, to the point where they even join in on his plot to overthrow Queen.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The unnamed female executive disappears midway through without explanation.
  • Wicked Cultured: They all seem to enjoy playing pool, if their introductory scene is any indicator.
    Leto, Bona and Kell

Leto, Bona and Kell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/space_mafia_aliens_ep13.jpg
The three most common types of aliens faced by Blue SWAT.
  • Degraded Boss: Start off dangerous enough to put up a challenge for the Blue SWAT trio, to the point that a single Bona is able to destroy the entire Blue SWAT organization in the first episode. In later episodes they're basically Cannon Fodder that the three Blue SWAT members can easily shoot through.
  • Gas Mask Mooks: Kells appear to have something akin to a breathing mask fastened to where their mouth should be.
  • Mooks: They serve as Monsters of the Week in most episodes but functionally they're the lowest ranked and most expendable members of the Space Mafia. When the Space Mafia starts getting more and more unique aliens, the Letos, Bonas and Kells get demoted to being grunts for them.
