MX-A1/Janperson

Portrayed by: Yuuichi Komine (voice)

Click here to see Janperson in his civilian clothes.
The Hero of the series, a mysterious police robot who shows up one day to protect people from the numerous robotic criminals running amok.
  • BFS: His "Jan Blader", which he detaches his right arm in order to wield.
  • Expy: His character is lifted from Robot Detective K with some slight tweaks, being a robot detective who assumes a fighting form to battle robot criminals.
  • Fire-Breathing Weapon: One of his weapons is a built-in flamethrower called the "Arc Fire."
  • Giant Space Flea from Nowhere: Janperson himself could be seen as a heroic version of this. He shows up out of nowhere in the first episode to start fighting criminals, and his origin isn't revealed until much later.
  • Judge, Jury, and Executioner: While he does make an effort to hand most of the criminals over to the police, he won't hesitate to destroy more dangerous and relentless ones.
  • Killer Robot: While Janperson himself averts this, being a heroic robot who avoids killing whenever he can. His original identity as MX-A1 was a Knight Templar perfectly willing to attack criminals and civilians alike in order to complete his directive to "destroy evil."
  • Knight Templar: MX-A1, Janperson's original identity, was a police robot built to stop criminals, only for its single-minded programming to lead it to believe Murder Is the Best Solution and allow civilians to be hurt by collateral damage.
  • One-Man Army: He's built in with enough weaponry to take on numerous robot and/or Cyborg assassins at once.
  • Purple Is Powerful: His dominant color is purple and he's a very powerful fighter.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: His dutiful and by-the-book attitude contrasts with his flashy and cocky partner, Gun Gibson.
  • Reforged into a Minion: Inverted, actually. He was originally a Killer Robot whose Knight Templar tendencies caused his creators to deactivate him but after seeing his potential as a good robot, Kaoru rebuilt him into Janperson and programmed him with a sturdier moral conscience.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Zig-zagged. His movements are very robotic and jerky, but many of his thought patterns and actions are very humanlike.
  • Rocket Punch: Janperson's "Wire Punch", where he fires his right arm at an opponent and pulls it back with a wire.
  • Something Person: His name is a Pun on how he wears a jumper. "Janpā" (Jumper) + "Person" = "Janperson".
  • Split Personality: His original MX-A1 personality eventually resurfaces in him as a separate persona, constantly goading him to kill criminals, even ones that are defenseless. With Kaoru's help, he's able to resist and suppress them.
  • Swiss-Army Appendage: His right arm can be launched off as a wired Rocket Punch, or detached to make room for a sword, a flamethrower, or an actual Rocket Punch.
    Gun Gibson

Gun Gibson

Portrayed by: Yoshinarii Tori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/gun_gibson.jpg
A robot originally built by Neo-Guild for the purpose of combating Janperson. After defying orders to fight Janperson one-on-one, he was marked for death by the organization and eventually became Janperson's ally.
  • Blood Knight: Lives for the thrill of battle, and his main motive in his debut is to have a proper fight with Janperson.
  • Dark Is Evil: Resembles Janperson but with a much more shadowy color scheme and is evil. At least until...
    • Dark Is Not Evil: He eventually turns good and becomes one of Janperson's closest allies, though he keeps his darker color scheme.
  • Deuteragonist: After turning good, he becomes Janperson's main ally and the effective secondary protagonist of the show.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Even while he was with Neo-Guild, he still loved his girlfriend Carol deeply. Her death at the organization's hands is what eventually spurs him to become good.
  • Expy: Of Hakaider, being a dark armored battle-hungry and gun-wielding robot laser-focused on fighting The Hero. Him starting out The Rival before turning good also calls to mind Hakaider's Expy Top Gunder from Chōjinki Metalder.
  • The Gunslinger: Loves to twirl his gun and embodies each of the four types of this trope depending on what move he's using.
  • Gratuitous English: Tends to end his sentences with "baby".
  • Heel–Face Turn: A bit of a delayed one. He starts out as a Killer Robot for Neo-Guild, rebels against them to get revenge for his girlfriend, but eventually joins Janperson in his fight for justice.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: He's much bulkier than his girlfriend Carol, and often enters scenes with her riding on his shoulder.
  • Improbable Aiming Skills: He can remote control his bullets to hit their targets.
  • Killer Robot: Starts out as one. He gets better with a little pushing from Janperson.
  • Meaningful Name: Gun Gibson wields guns.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Is a cocky show-off, in contrast to Janperson's cool and humble demeanor.
  • Ridiculously Human Robot: Much more so than Janperson, what with his flamboyant movements and cocky attitude.
  • Shout-Out: His last name is derived from Mel Gibson.

Kaoru Saegusa

Portrayed by: Tomoko Kawashima

A female inventor who originally created Janperson, repurposing him from the rogue MX-A1 robot into a hero to fight for justice.
  • Big Good: Effectively this for the series, as she built Janperson and provides him with assistance against whatever criminals he's up against.
  • Face–Heel Turn: Joins up with Tatewaki for his endgame. It’s all an act.
  • Girl Friday: Janperson's female technological expert and intel provider.

Kojiro Komoi and Shiro Takaido

  • Shoutout: Komoi's nickname is derived from Batman.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: They disappear from the show along with Aki in favor of the focus being on Janperson.

Guild

    In General
A criminal organization that replaces humans with robot doppelgangers to serve as spies.
  • Evil Knockoff: Episode 2 reveals the Guild's plan to replace people with robots. They are convincing enough to normal humans that Janperson appeared to be committing mass murder when he hunts down the robots. They also have copies of Aki and the police officers made in plan to abduct a kid while luring Janperson to a trap, playing on killing the originals when they arrived as well.
  • Killer Robot: Besides their spy robots, most of their arsenal are robots built for killing, in fact.
  • Mooks: The Guild Assassin/Combat Robots, used by Guild to take out anyone that opposes them.
  • Nebulous Evil Organization: Very nebulous, so much so that we don't learn much about them other than they have dozens of robot spies and use robots for evil.

Portrayed by: Shun Sugata

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tatewaki_shades_ep3.jpg
The founder and president of Tatewaki Konzern. He seeks to gain control of Japan's criminal element simply so he can profit off of both the legal and illegal business that goes on in Japan. Later has himself converted into a Cyborg resembling Janperson called "Bill Goldy".
  • Beware the Silly Ones: While he's prone to comedic moments, he still is the most dangerous of the three Big Bads given how wide-reaching his company is, especially after he becomes Bill Goldy.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With George Makabe of Neo-Guild and Reiko Ayanokouji of SS-N. Of the three, Tatewaki is the least proactive but he outlasts both of them and ends up as the final Big Bad.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Eccentricity and comedic moments aside, Tatewaki still runs the most successful MegaCorp in Japan and has backed numerous criminal activities without getting caught.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Literally as Bill Goldy, wielding cards that say "Bill Goldy for Evil".
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Is the CEO of Tatewaki Konzern and uses his wealth to sponsor all sorts of crimes.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: He tends to use a high-pitched and screechy voice whenever he's acting comedic, but adopts a deeper one when he gets serious, often whenever he's about to do something evil.
  • Evil Twin: His Bill Goldy form looks almost exactly like Janperson except for being gold, and possesses all of his abilities.
  • Expy: He can be seen as the "Lex Luthor" of the series, being a rich businessman and Arch-Enemy of the hero that puts on a seemingly charming act in the presence of others and is motivated by his ego and unhealthy obsession with the hero to commit acts of villainy.
  • Final Boss: He's Janperson final opponent as Bill Goldy, after Makabe and Reiko both fall.
  • For the Evulz: He doesn't have much of a motive for his criminal activities other than because he can.
  • Frame-Up: Uses his resemblance to Janperson as Bill Goldy to commit crimes and frame Janperson for them.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: Bill Goldy is indeed gold.
  • Laughably Evil: His spastic actions, kooky disguises and habit of licking lollipops make him quite a comedic character, but no less dangerous.
  • Shoe Phone: Some of his lollipops contain secret devices hidden within them.

  • Arch-Enemy: Of Gun Gibson, being the one who killed his girlfriend, Carol.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Ryuzaburo Tatewaki of Tatewaki Konzern and Reiko Ayanokouji of SS-N, though he's probably the most proactive of the three.
  • Diabolical Mastermind: The Don of an advanced crime syndicate, who has his finger in a number of affairs thanks to his spy robots.
  • It's Personal: Averted. Though his half-brother Ben fell at Janperson's hand, George has no grudge against him because of this and simply seeks to fulfill the vision of the original Guild, rather than avenge his brother.
  • Stronger Sibling: Boasts that he's superior to his brother in his intro. It's later subverted in his final episode when it's revealed George is a regular human with a few mechanic implants, as opposed to being a full Cyborg like his brother.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/reiko_ayanokouji_ep4.jpg
The refined leader of the SS-N.
  • Affably Evil: While she has a low tolerance for failure, she generally acts polite in the presence of her minions.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: With Ryuzaburo Tatewaki of Tatewaki Konzern and George Makabe of Neo Guild, although she is the first of the three to fall.
  • Costume Evolution: In her debut at the end of episode 4, she appears as a normal woman wearing a labcoat. Starting with episode 6, she wears a much more decorated red and yellow suit with her face painted white, though she wears plainclothes whenever she goes out in public.
  • Evil vs. Evil: She has no intention of working with either of her fellow Big Bads, and plans to eliminate them once Janperson is dealt with.

  • You Have Failed Me: Any minions who fail her get dropped in a Bottomless Pit.
