The adventurous prince of Apollonia, Antonio discovers Ro's Island and when she saves his life when crocodiles attack him and his friend Frazer, Antonio asks Ro if she would like to return with him to his kingdom.

  • Amazon Chaser: Part of his attraction to Ro is because of her adventurous and free spirited nature.
  • Arranged Marriage: He's initially involved in one of these to Princess Luciana, but he's not too happy about it.
  • Cool Big Bro: He's very amiable and likes to joke around with his younger sisters.
  • Marry for Love: Rather than confine himself to an unhappy marriage, Antonio resorts to threatening to give up his royal title so he can be with Ro. Fortunately, they're allowed to be together anyways.
  • Official Couple: With Ro.

Sagi

Voiced by: Christopher Gaze

A wise red panda who helped raise Ro when she washed up on the island.

  • Deadpan Snarker: He has his moments, mainly when dealing with Azul.
  • Parental Substitute: He plays a fatherly role in Ro's life, and was the one who raised her along with Azul.
  • Platonic Co-Parenting: Sagi (a red panda) and Azul (a peacock) found Ro as a young girl when she washed up on their island, and after some protests from Azul, they both agreed to raise her as their own.

A pompous yet good-natured peacock, and one of Ro's animal companions.

  • Insistent Terminology: He's most certainly a prince, no question about it.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Pompous as he might be, he was more than willing to sacrifice some of his tailfeathers to complete Ro's ballgown.
  • Overly Long Name: His full name is Prince Azul Vasu Morantha IV.
  • Parental Substitute: He and Sagi took Ro in and raised her when she washed ashore on their island.
  • Platonic Co-Parenting: He and Sagi raised Ro together when she washed up on their island.
  • Proud Peacock: He fits this trope to a T, being a peacock who's very pompous and proud of his beautiful feathers. He even appears on the current page image.

Tika

Voiced by: Susan Roman
A sweet baby elephant and one of Ro's animal friends.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: She's the youngest of Ro's animal friends.
  • Driven by Envy: Tika hides a note Antonio wrote to Ro, although she's not exactly jealous, just worried that Ro will leave her.
  • Easily Forgiven: When she confesses to hiding Antonio’s note to sabotage Ro’s relationship with him, Ro isn’t even mad and is quick to forgive her.
  • Friend Versus Lover: One-sided example. Tika is not happy with Ro’s relationship with Antonio, worried she’ll leave her for him. She hides a letter Antonio wrote to Ro asking her to escape with him, remarking “he’s not sailing anywhere with my Ro!” By the end of the movie, she accepts their relationship.
  • Honorable Elephant: Downplayed; she's usually sweet and good-natured, but she later tries to sabotage Ro's relationship with Antonio since she's afraid Ro will leave her and the other animals for good.

Voiced by: Russell Roberts

Antonio's straight laced father, and current King of Apollonia.

  • Cool Crown: He wears an ornate gold hoop crown set with precious stones.
  • Dating What Daddy Hates: He initially disapproves of his son's affections for Ro due to her commoner status. He later comes to accept it and happily welcomes Ro into the family.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: He wants Antonio to settle down and get married rather than travel around.
  • Parental Hypocrisy: Queen Danielle notes that Peter was very similar to Antonio in his youth, being very adventurous and wanting to explore the world.

  • The High Queen: She's very poised and graceful, and a dutiful spouse and mother.
  • Shipper on Deck: While she'd still rather have Antonio marry Luciana, she quickly learns to accept her son's feelings for Ro, and is the first to suggest that they should be together despite their differences in status.
  • True Blue Femininity: She wears a royal blue gown with pink highlights.

Talulah

Voiced by: Bets Malone (English), Jannemien Cnossen (Dutch)

Queen Danielle's spoiled pet monkey and loyal companion.

  • Cool Crown: She wears a small gold tiara.
  • Damsel in Distress: She's poisoned by Ariana's rats with Sunset Herb, sending her into an endless sleep. Thankfully, Sagi is able to wake her up with the rose tonic.
  • Forgot About His Powers: Due to being brought up in the royal palace, she's forgotten how to climb trees. Ro is able to help her regain those skills, much to her joy.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: While she's often very prissy due to her upbringing, she's very sweet deep down, and even offers to help Ro get dressed up for the royal ball.
  • Raised in Captivity: Was born on a South Seas island but was brought up in the palace.
  • Spoiled Sweet: She's a spoiled and somewhat prissy monkey, but she is kindhearted.

Queen Ariana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_20210425_19_49_25_5.png

Voiced by: Andrea Martin

The mother of Princess Luciana. Ariana is a scheming, manipulative woman with her heart set on overthrowing King Peter.

  • Anything but That!: Her last line in the movie.
Ariana: Not the pigs! Anything but the PIGS!!!
  • Abusive Parents: She's extremely neglectful, disrespectful, and borderline emotionally abusive to her daughter. Anything close to a compliment she gives her is only to fuel her own ego.
  • Adapted Out: Ariana made no appearance in Barbie as the Island Princess video game adaptation and instead she was mentioned by her daughter.
  • Black Widow: It's heavily implied in her Villain Song that she murdered her elderly husband not long after they were married.
Ariana: Sunday we were wed, Wednesday he was dead! Happily, that put an end to us!
  • Evil Brit: She has a British accent and is the villain of the movie.
  • Expy:
    • Arguably to Lady Tremaine of Disney's Cinderella, both villainesses are wearing complete red who manipulated their daughters to married the princes and framed the film's main protagonists, Ro and Cinderella respectively. At the end, they are defeated as the part of their punishments.
    • One for Laverna of Fairytopia both they are attempting to take over the kingdoms as the rulers and poisoning everyone. Ariana was much more detestable than her. However, unlike Laverna, she is still alive and trapped in the pigs farms like her parents while Laverna is destroyed by Elina and her friends during the Flight of Spring.
  • Faux Affably Evil: She affects a chummy, kindhearted demeanor, but it's all an act.
  • Freudian Excuse: Her family was exiled to a pig farm when she was a child after a failed assassination attempt on Peter and Danielle, leading her to grow up resenting Peter.
  • God Save Us from the Queen!: She's deceptive and cruel, and wouldn't hesitate to kill an entire family just to satisfy her revenge.
  • Gold Digger: In her Villain Song, she mentions how she married a rich older king to elevate her own status.
  • Rags to Royalty: A villainous example. She went from being an impoverished peasant to a queen by marrying a rich old king with a heart condition, and it's implied that she killed him.
  • Regent for Life: A passing line from her while she's poisoning the wedding cake appears to hint that she plans to rule the kingdom through her daughter once she marries Antonio. With Peter and Danielle out of the picture, and with Antonio to follow soon after, Luciana would become queen by default as the wife to the heir.
  • Vile Villain, Saccharine Show: Queen Ariana plans to murder Antonio and his family, poisons the animals so they'll starve to death in an endless sleep, only had a daughter to serve her own ends, bribes a guard to kill Ro and her friends by knocking them into the ocean, and gained her title through marrying and killing an elderly king with a heart condition. It's also directly implied that she intends to rule the kingdom through her weak willed daughter once she's crowned queen.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Ariana's parents were banished to a pig farm after a failed attempt to kill the royal family, making pigs a touchy subject for her.

Princess Luciana

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_20210425_19_52_15_5.png

Voiced by: Candice Nicole (English), Jannemien Cnossen (Dutch)

Antonio's intended fiancée and daughter of Queen Ariana.

  • Arranged Marriage: She's initially engaged to Antonio, but neither side is particularly happy about it.
  • Brainy Brunette: She's very studious and loves to read.
  • Calling the Old Woman Out: When Ariana tries to claim that Ro is framing her for poisoning the wedding cake, Luciana finally stands up to her mother and defends Ro, recalling how her mother told her not to eat anything that day.
Luciana: You told me not to eat anything! Why would you say that unless...you poisoned it?
  • Did Not Get The Guy: She ultimately doesn't marry Antonio, preferring to let him be with the woman he truly loves: Ro.
  • Expy:
    • Something of one for Anastasia Tremaine from Disney's Cinderella (specifically her portrayal from Cinderella III: A Twist in Time); they're both the daughters of the main antagonists who are forced to marry a prince as part of their mothers' plans. However, they eventually undergo a Heel–Face Turn and let their prince marry someone else.
    • Also serves one to Calla, being a pure-hearted princess who stand out to against the main villain in with have chance to becoming royalty.
  • Extreme Doormat: Zigzagged. Her mother is incredibly verbally abusive towards her, and while she does meekly obey her, she does show signs of putting up a token resistance against her.
  • Graceful Ladies Like Purple: She wears a purple gown.
  • Marry for Love: She confides in her mother that she dreams of marrying someone who loves her for her, not just because she's a princess. Ariana scoffs at this notion. In the end, she gets her wish and is implied to get together with a handsome lord she meets at Antonio and Ro's wedding.
  • Minion with an F in Evil: Insofar as she's not really doing anything particularly evil; she's a nice girl who's under the thumb of her domineering, plotting mother. Once the truth comes out, she immediately calls her out and breaks off her engagement.
  • Nice Girl: She's very loyal, polite, and kind.
  • Princess Classic: Luciana is very respect, demure, and sweet, spending most of her time reading and dreaming about meeting her one true love, a notion her mother acidly snarks at.
  • Proper Lady: Ariana specifically raised her into this to make her ideal bride material, but Antonio prefers an Action Girl.
  • Romantic False Lead: She's first introduced as Antonio's fiancée, but it's very clear that neither side is particularly thrilled about the match. She ultimately doesn't marry Antonio, mutually breaking off the engagement so Antonio and Ro can be together.
  • Shrinking Violet: Clearly prefers to be doing very low-key activities and is very much the opposite of her hammy, theatrical mother.

Queen Marissa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/queen_marissa2.png
Voiced by: Kate Fisher

The Queen of Paladia, and Ro's long lost mother.

  • Friend to All Living Things: She loves animals just like her daughter, and makes her first major onscreen appearance by helping an injured bird.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: Like her daughter, she has blonde hair and is very kind.
  • The High Queen: She's very regal and elegant, befitting her status as a queen.
  • Long-Lost Relative: She's Ro's missing mother. They were separated at sea when Ro was only a little girl, and didn't reunite until many years later.
  • Luke, I Am Your Father: After Ro reveals her real name as Rosella, Marissa reveals she had a daughter named Rosella, causing Ro to realize she's the long lost princess of Paladia and reunites with her.
  • Something Only They Would Say: She's able to confidently identify Ro as her daughter when she starts singing the lullaby Marissa would sing to her as a child.
