I just submitted a similar question to ATT regarding the franchise title, so I'd hold off on a page rename until a decision is made on ATT. Our policy is to use the English names, but we can wait a few days just to be on the safe side.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Septimus Heap came back to move over to the official English title. Getting the pages made now. Though a few other questions I've asked about is whether o rnot to keep the VideoGame.Earth Bound Zero redirect (I've cleaned out the wicks and submitted the Main redirects to Cut) and what to do about VideoGame.Mother since it (a) looks more like it should be a "Franchise" page and (b) probably has links to the individual game amongst its wicks that will probably need checking over.
EDIT: Did anyone realize there are separate WMG pages for WMG.Mother 1 and WMG.Earth Bound Zero? I've merged them together and will submit zero to the cutlist. For good measure while everything's sorted out I"ll move the Zero entries to Mother 1, also. I'm not planning any major cuts to anything that has a redirect or high inbounds. For now I'm sticking to just making the new pages.
Got the new pages made on VideoGame.Earthbound Beginnings. Every subpage VideoGame.Mother 1 has is also on EBB. There's a few complications/questions I'm not moving on without a consensus but all the groundwork's done for now.
Edited by sgamer82I say we cut and lock these pages and have any links to them redirect to EarthBound Beginnings. I've never really assisted in a page transfer before though, so I'm not really sure what the standard procedure is.
I've done this a few times with anime and manga series. This project's a bit bigger and scope and has a few question marks which is why I've held off a bit, but my usual procedure:
- copy/paste the page sources from former title to current title (already done)
- Index the pages under new name (Done, though that's one minor question mark)
- Custlist any subpages with fewer than 10 inbounds (awesome, YMMV, Characaters, etc) but create redirects if there's a lot (tbh not sure if this is 'proper' procedure but I know pages with high inbound cuts are usually kept uncut.). This is one of those cases I've held off doing the entire job, since there's a few questiosn about pages/sub pages and also I wanted to make sure the discussion was moved first (admittedly I tend to forget that last)
- Fix up the wicks (this one will be tricky due to VideoGame.Mother and VideoGame.Mother 1 being different pages.
The more official version can be found here: How to Move a Page
and also see Wick Namespace Migration
Edited by sgamer82I went ahead and set up the necessary redirects and cuts for the main Mother 1 page and subpages. Turns out there were a few EarthBound Zero pages not just as redirect to VideoGame.Mother or VideoGame.Mother 1 but as pages unto themselves. If EarthBound Beginnings didn't already have them I moved/merged entries accordingly.
I'll try and get a mod to move stuff here over there but in the meantime here's a link to the new discussion page: https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/remarks.php?trope=VideoGame.EarthboundBeginnings
It depresses me how little love this game gets in the fandom... True, there's a lot of Early-Installment Weirdness going on in terms of gameplay, and the plot is a bit darker, but that by no means makes it bad in comparison to what came later. Besides, if it wasn't for this game, the Mother series wouldn't exist in the first place!
I actually really like the first Mother game. The NES graphics may be primitive, but I find it has a lot of charm, and I like the more rural theme going on incomparison to the more modern Earth Bound. It Needs More Love. It really, really does...

Any help, suggestions, or other info can be posted to The Special Efforts thread
The examples shown here could perhaps be salvaged with more context or used in other tropes.
What game mechanics, if any, make instant death possible with these games? Please be specific. For example weapons, hit locations, critical damage, direct one shot one kill weapons (like the Golden Gun in GoldenEye)
Does an Instant Death Bullet Occur in cut scenes, gameplay, or anywhere else in the game?
- Averted in the games Earthbound and Mother 3, characters don't fall down from lethal damage immediately. It takes time for their health to tick down to zero, meaning that it is possible to save a lethally-wounded character by healing them or winning the encounter before their health hits zero. To make it match the trope even further, a few of the enemies do in fact use guns.
- Played straight in the original Mother.
How come there's no Headscratchers page for this?
Hide / Show RepliesBecause nobody has made one yet, I presume. Feel free to start it.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.Oh? How do I start it? I clicked "Edit page", and didn't even see the markup for any of the tabs that are there.
Tabs aren't created through a special markup; they're added automatically when someone makes the page they will link to. Go here and start editing; when you're done, the tab should show up and the page will exist.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.OK, can we settle the Loid/Lloyd debate once and for all?
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. This entry needs to be rewritten according to How To Write An Example:
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman
Question: Should we attempt to rename this page after the official English title, Earth Bound Beginnings?
