No. This is about reptilian traits being associated with evil; if those same traits are on good character, they're not being used to represent evil.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.Who outside of this wiki attributes the quote about reptiles not being like how linnaeus described to linnaeus???
We need a new quote
I have come to change the way herptiles are talked about. Why do people keep adding turtles? I mean, unless they are EVIL, turtles are already considered 'cute'. I could understand it if they would be snapper turtles and looking like them, but still. Same thing about dragons...
Edited by SpookyMask Hide / Show RepliesWhy do people abhor reptiles and love mammals?! I hate that because I love reptiles more than mammals.
Plus, I feel that those who like mammals more than reptiles are mindless sheep and total conformists. I'm not like that.
In my opinion, reptiles are the best animals there and mammals are abhorrent (but not all of them).
Edited by 69.131.26.126Agreed, my good sir.
Reptiles are awesome!
If you want any of my avatars, just Pm me I'd truly appreciate any avatar of a reptile sleeping in a Nice Hat Read Elmer Kelton booksI feel that those who like mammals more than reptiles are mindless sheep and total conformists. I'm not like that. Well, way to be a rebel Mister Rebel McRebelton. Not that snakes and lizards aren't among the most underrated cuties in the animal kingdom, but still - sheep? Oh wait a second, I see what you did there.

Edited by reptoherp I have come to change the way herptiles are talked about.Yo, wait, no aversions anymore? Where the heck do we put examples of reptiles NOT being shown in a negative light, then?
When all else fails, use a REALLY BIG STICK!! Hide / Show RepliesIn no place. If Reptiles Are Abhorrent is not omnipresent, reptiles not being abhorrent is not noteworthy.
Edited by MagBasThe page image (COBRA from GI Joe) isn't a very good example. Not only is it a symbolic rather than literal use of an "evil reptile" theme, but additionally it is specific to snakes and thus more falls under Snakes Are Sinister.
Why is this no real life examples? I doubt there are many reptiles reading TV Tropes who will get offended :)
Hide / Show RepliesSo, how precisely would this trope apply in the following situation?
Rattles is just looking out for himself, waiting for the next good meal and generally wanting to be left in peace. But then the Hero (who happens to be a fluffy hare) requests his help on a quest to save the prairie. At first Rattles refuses, but later he helps the Hero and his human friend on their quest, despite the human initially being scared of Rattles and thinking he was the antagonist. The human later thanks Rattles and leaves him alone. Later on, two of the antagonists—both humans—come along and chop Rattles' head off. Because reptiles are abhorrent (and he saved the Hero by scaring the bad guys off initially).
Imaginary friends? I prefer the term "creative muses."No real life examples? There's such for other similar tropes, like sharks.
I got my political views from reddit and that's bad- Mostly, The Elder Scrolls plays this trope straight. The very first game in the series, Arena, had Lizardmen among the Always Chaotic Evil creatures you had to fight. There's also the snake-like Tsaecsi from the continent of Akavir, which have a sinister reputation in the background lore (although this may just be a case of Fantastic Racism). Finally, some of the Daedra in the franchise are reptilian in appearance. The Argonian lizard-men vary, however, between games: While not portrayed all that positively in the lore, good-natured and helpful Argonians do exist.
First of all, how the hell do you "mostly play a trope straight"?
Second, I love this part: "The Argonian lizard-men vary, however, between games; While not portrayed all that positively in the lore, good-natured and helpful Argoonians do exist."
Like, you know, the fucking player character.
Fight. Struggle. Endure. Suffer. LIVE.As per this TRS thread we have been doing a major cleanup here. This isn't a place to gripe about tropes you don't like, to gush about animals you like, to argue with every example or to list a million and one "aversions".
Edited by Auxdarastrix Hide / Show RepliesFYI, this is the Internet and people are free to type whatever the hell they want. Besides, there are people who like to gripe. And I'm you, I'd let them do that.
Removes this:
- The Captain Marvel Reboot applies this to arch-enemy Mr Mind, who was once an excellent subversion of What Measure Is a Non-Cute? in that he's a cute little cartoony caterpillar (to be fair, an alien caterpillar with Psychic Powers). Now he's a Snake. Ah. (Let's hope he was only controlling the snake.)
Because Mr. Mind changed from his cartoony caterpillar form into this◊. That ain't no snake, and still way more insect than reptile. (If the link is dead, imagine a centipede with oversized mandibles, glowing red eyes all over its body, and bat wings.)
Some of the examples (like the Egyptian Mythology one) come from settings where reptiles are not Always Chaotic Evil — they're just examples of particular reptile characters that happen to be evil. Do such examples really belong here?
