Can't remember Literature
I can't remember the title of a short science fiction story, probably from the 1970s' or earlier.
A text containing modern science and theories is translated into ancient Greek and sent back in time by a rogue scientist seeking to make the future better.
There is an organization whose investigators are given the job of investigating the misuse of the time machine.
The linguist who did the translation for the rogue scientist tells them that the scientist actually disclosed what he planned to do. Since the scientist knew nothing about Ancient Greek, the linguist only included the parts of the text where the material could already be found in ancient writings.
The linguist tells the investigators he went ahead and did the work instead of reporting the scientist because "Gentlemen, this is the world where the text was sent back."
It's mentioned by the first-person narrator that the case is marked "?" in the files of the investigating organization. Not solved, not open, just "?".
Edited by CandiAn episode from an old bulldog, cat and mouse cartoon (Not Tom and jerry) (FOUND!!!) Western Animation
From what I remember, the episode goes like this:
There was this mouse and cat in a house fighting, and then the mouse challenges the cat to go stand up to the dog outside in the backyard. The cat accepts.
The dog is under his dog house chewing on a bone in a bowl, when the cat slowly approached the dog talking to him trying to confront him and act tough. The dog got mad once, and the cat ran away and climbed on top of the backyard door really quickly. The cat tried to confront the dog again, talking to him a second time and the dog scared the cat again and the cat, again, ran and climbed up on top of the backyard door.
When the cat tried to approach the dog a 3rd time, the cat accidentally slammed the bowl into the dog's face (the bowl had some sort of liquid in it that splashed into the dog's face). The dog (bulldog btw) got really mad, got up and was about to chase the cat. The backyard door that the cat used as refuge slammed shut from the wind and when the cat tried to run away again to climb on top of it, he got up in the air, noticed that the door was not there anymore, dropped down and then continued running into the house.
The dog ran after him and the nail that held his leash to the ground detached from the ground setting him free. The dog chased the cat into the house. During this part of the cartoon, the camera remains outside the house following the movements of the dog and the cat from behind the wall. Only the footsteps of the dog and cat can be heard from outside. They both run up the stairs and into a room until they reach a dead end where the dog eventually catches up to the cat and beats him up. I remember the dead end being a flat wall with a blue, opaque circular window on the side!
The cat, after being beaten up by the dog the first time, runs back from the dead end and towards it again. The dog beats up the cat again. Breaking glass and meowing can be heard as the dog is beating up the cat. The same thing happens a few more times before the scene fades out. Then, the camera shows the mouse sitting on a pillow chilling. The camera then zooms out to show the cat standing above the mouse with a few injuries, especially a rope holding his arm up from being broken. The cat was looking down at the mouse with an angered expression. The cat was resting his head on his hand when he was looking down at the mouse waiting before trying to attack the mouse for setting him up to get beaten up by the dog.
This is as far as I can remember.

A few additional details from memory (could be wrong):
- I'm not too sure but I remember the mouse being sort of skinny. - Both the mouse and cat were talking. I vividly remember they had a texas accent and talked sort of slowly. The bulldog never spoke. He only growled and barked (especially when chasing the cat). - The animation wasn't as good as that of tom and jerry or loony toons. It was a pretty old cartoon. It wasn't a black and white cartoon though, not like betty boop (for example). - I remember the cat being either orange or black (no not Sylvester, again it was a not-so-well-known cartoon.) - I remember the entrance of the house that the dog and cat ran into had a very short flight of steps at the front door. - I remember the dog being close to the colors of beige or yellow. (I might be wrong) - I remember the walls of the house that the chase happened in were white. (Might be wrong)
I tried to ask Chat GPT to identify the episode, and he recommended some cartoons such as "Herman and Katnip", but I looked through most of their episodes and none of them were the ones I'm looking for. I even tried to ask Snapchat AI and even he didn't find it.
Please help me find this episode, I have been looking for it for ages desperate to know the name. If there are any questions, or any additional details you are trying to look for, please let me know. Will be forever grateful to the one that finds the name!
Edited by Justsomeuserthree books Literature
Bumping some old YKTSs I posted years ago in a new query.
First two were novels for tweens, read by me in the mid to late 1970s or early 1980s.
1. By Judy Blume or is a Judy Blume "type." It has a male protagonist who is a high school senior (I think) and gets involved romantically with a female teacher. She breaks up with him towards the end of the book. There's a scene where he is having a picnic with her and they're drinking wine; within the context of the scene it's not treated as a big deal but I remember thinking at the time that he's underage and drinking! Or maybe, he goes out alone in a picnic-for-one after she breaks up with him.
2. Girl gets involved (non-romantically) with a rebellious girl. The rebellious girl may be living with the protagonist girl & her family for some reason, but the book starts at about the time the rebellious girl moves in. In the town where they live there's a variety store which the family calls a "ten cent store" and the rebellious girl refers to as a "five and dime." The protagonist girl picks up this bit of lingo, and at one point mentions the "five and dime" to her older sister. The sister says "do you mean the ten cent store?" (Italics per original IIRC). The sister, who is significantly older & doesn't hang around with the protagonist girl & the new girl, doesn't pick up on her sister having adopted that slang from the rebellious girl.
3. Adult novel from the mid to late 1990s. A lower-class person (possibly American) had earned himself a Rhodes Scholarship and is studying Shakespeare at Oxford. He gets an outside job doing "contract research" for a woman and her father, who have what they believe is a lead to proof that Shakespere didn't write Shakespeare's plays, Francis Bacon [or perhaps another author] did. He is initially reluctant to take the job but he needs the money, and as the story goes along he's sucked into their belief. A couple of plot points I recall:
- A. At one point slightly more than halfway through the book a small bidding war erupts between the woman/father and another couple for a trunk they find in an estate sale: the researcher thinks there is some vital clue in the trunk, and the other couple see their interest and figure hey, if they want the trunk it must be valuable so we'll bid on it too! Our protagonists win the auction and look inside. The important items in the trunk were a letter and a manuscript. The letter says something to the effect of "the manuscript will prove that Shakespeare didn't write Shakespeare." The letter is loose and has survived the centuries, but the manuscript was sealed in the best that the 1700s had to offer so it has crumbled to dust.
- B In the end the researcher has been completely convinced that Bacon (or someone else) wrote Shakespeare's works and is given a dressing-down by one of his professors. The researcher is humbled by the professor. But AIR the professor doesn't really give any reason why the researcher is wrong. I don't know if this was just poor writing on the part of the novel's author or if it was purposely ambiguous.
In my previous query it was suggested that Chasing Shakespeare is the answer to number three. I dismissed it at the time but I'm having second thoughts and have requested the book from my local library; in the meantime if someone has a good idea of the answer I would be appreciative.
Kids and robots on a boat looking for an island Western Animation
A kids 3D animated show where these teens had sentient robot friends, each with their own unique capabilities. They travelled on a boat looking for a mysterious island that kept disappearing in the fog and changing location somehow as though it didn't really exist. There was the occasional skirmish with pirates I think. A brooding captain looking out into the fog hoping they catch the island someday.
Flash Talking Fish Web Original
When I was in high school, I took classes in Flash animation (back when Flash was strictly for Web Animation only), and among the material we studied was a little series of animation featuring talking fish - they were stylized to look like somewhat realistic fish, but with floppy mouths, a lot like the kind of stuff you'd find on old sites like Jib Jab. I remember one such episode was a musical one where the fish are on a plane, and one of the passengers falls in love with the stewardess who handed out bags of peanuts, the chorus from that song has never left my head: "Peanut lady, how do you do? Peanut lady, I think I'm in love with you." I have searched the internet high and low for these Flash fish, and can't find anything. Does anyone remember these?
Collection of old cartoons on DVD or VHS Western Animation
I distinctly remember watching old cartoons on a DVD player when I was a kid. It could've been a VHS tape instead, or hell, it could've been pirated, but I swear I remember it having a DVD menu.
I found some of the old cartoons, but the wiki pages don't say anything about being released in a cartoon collection. Again, this could be pirated, I don't know.
Here's what I remember:
- Little Audrey: Tarts and Flowers
- The colored rerelease of The Daffy Duckaroo
- Fifth Column Mouse
- The 1936 Felix the Cat short Old King Cole
- The Popeye short The Umpire Strikes Back
- The Looney Tunes short Crowing Pains
I remember there also being a Bugs Bunny cartoon, but I can't really remember what happened in it. While I've found most of these myself, I'd like to find the actual DVD/VHS itself.
Edited by RainbowPumpqueenWhat sitcom is this? Live Action TV
There was a sitcom episode, that was probably airing on Family Channel (Canada), in which a family with a son was going out for dinner with a family that had a daughter.
In one scene, the son’s mom broke a lamp after accusing him of doing it, then asked him if “this crazy rampage [was] going to continue”.
Edited by MisterToodleooEducational TV series Live Action TV
I'm starting to get flashes of seeing an educational TV show I saw years ago in the early 2010s. It was set at the Manitobs Museum in Winnipeg (The Nonsuch ship gallery was prominentlty featured in my memories) and was about two mannequins who come to life and serve as the series hosts. I think it was on TVO and one episode the first toilets of Ancient Greece were discussed with a cartoon of a Minotaur doing its business.
Old interview with Tom Baker and Mary Tamm Live Action TV
It was from early in his term as Doctor but he was already quickly becoming everyones favourite. The main two things I remember are that there was a contest to guess how long his scarf was and if you got it right youd get a replica full length as a prize. The other thing is they had call in questions for them so that viewers could call the show and talk direct to Tom and Mary. I want to find it so bad as I found it on youtube a while back but I cant seem to find it anywhere now. Any ideas on a title or time period or something?
Thanks. <3
Tom Baker Doctor Who episode Live Action TV
It's for my mom, she just remembers him climbing some rocks at one point and there was a hallucination scene with a huge hypodermic needle. She thinks the master was part of it but shes not sure. Any ideas?
Thanks.
fantasy game with fox protagonist (SOLVED)
I saw footage of the game in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCvlhshkjAU
The player character is a photorealistic fox. In this segment it appears to transfer mystical light to a series of carved stone pillars arranged in a round formation.
Does anyone know what this game is? The video doesn't mention it anywhere (it's a reddit video, just has the gameplay as background)
EDIT: Forgot to add the videogame label
Edited by Lermis3D horror game with EXTREMELY gorey and graphic death screens and it's sequel? (Self-Completed) Videogame
So about a year and a half, two years ago, I remember there was... like, an extremely graphic horror game. Tv Tropes probably won't have a page on it, because JEEZ was this game gorey. I remember it involved a lady going to a house... possibly for her inheritance from her father?
The story was basically her trying to escape from the most horrible death traps. What I remember, however, were the insane number of death screens that she could suffer: One trap has her trying to avoid a mannequin with a cloth-covered cage on it's head, which it used to grasp her head if it caught her (It only moved when the lights would change to red, I think?) and then twisted her head off slowly.
Another death screen was... it sticks out in my head, because I remember there was an "artist" who wanted to turn her into some kind of art piece. One of them basically had a silent (thankfully) film reel of the woman waking up and finding her body... I guess pregnant, but completely nude. Then she was tortured because the... THING that came out of her (I can't call it a child, cuz it sure wasn't human) killed her as it was "birthed".
Then there's a death where there's some ghoul in a wheelchair who psychically bent her body into little more than a pretzel.
There were tons of other deaths, too, but I distinctly remember that the game got a sequel (of sorts) but I forget the name of both of them. The thing is: The first game was definitely a semi-side scroller (2d plane movement, that much I'm sure of) but the sequel was fully 3d, and in the demo they showed, the main character of the sequel climbs out of what appears to be a giant vagina.
Swear to god, I am not making this up.
Edited by DrSanjiZantWeird game, need help Videogame
So, I'm looking for this one mobile game that I used to play a lot when I was little. Basically, it was a game where you moved into a shoddy, run-down house and a cute little ghost guy helped you renovate it and help your family flourish. You collected coins and purple gems. The art style was lineless and everyone had Black Bead Eyes, if I recall correctly. I remember soap operas being a thing on the old TV. It connected to Facebook, like a lot of the odd social games I played at the time. I have a pretty vivid memory of it, but I cannot for the life of me find it on the app store nowadays. Somebody help me?
Kid's book about dragons featuring a greek myth Literature
I remember my grandson taking a book from library about various dragon myths. One was from Ancient Greece, the gist of which dude saves baby dragon from something, and when both are adults dragon save him fron bandits. Anyone know what the book's called, or the myth?
Contra(-like?) with "good" ending involving the world blowing up (Found by myself) Videogame
I seem to remember reading somewhere about a port of Contra (or there being an old Contra-like game, I'm not sure) where the only ending involves the damage done to the alien base somehow causes the world (which, for reference, is Earth) to explode - I'm pretty sure I remember whoever was describing it saying it was a complete kick in the teeth, "THAT'S my reward???" kind of stuff.
Of course, now that it's actually crossed my mind again (both from a CTRL+F on the Contra page and a quick glance at some endings), I can't find the damn thing, so I figured I'd ask here to see if it actually exists or if I just dreamed the whole thing up.
Edited by Rex-Blanchimont-ZEROAn old show I NEED to know the name of (FOUND) Film
Okay so when I was a really little kid I used to watch this one show and I don’t remember the name but I remember that it was about this little girl with black hair I think and a red dress, with a stuffed animal ( I remember the stuffed animal being sorta kind of evil but I’m probably wrong idk) and I don’t remember what the stuffed animal was, and these two boys would always try to steal the stuffed animal from her or try to be mean to her or just do mischievous things or something and the stuffed animal would become sentient I think and stop the two boys from doing whatever they were going to do, the show was also 2D, not 3D, and I think it kind of had a Charlie Brown style but I really can’t remember, I also sort of remember the intro of the show and I think the name started with a P but I don’t really know and I think it might’ve been an older show, maybe from the 2000s or a bit later but again I don’t know. Istg tho, this is literally driving me insane and I can’t stop thinking about it, I need to know what’s it’s called. I know that this isn’t a lot of information but I hope someone knows!

Edited by NIN-DROIDThere was a phone app with a lion called Toby... Videogame
...or something like that. He meets two other animals: a male anteater and a female whose species I've forgotten. They find a ring each: Toby's is blue, the FWSIF's is red, and the anteater's is green. The rings are magical, although I forgot exactly what they do, and there's a sequence where they trap some dude, who was previously riding around on a tornado, inside a bottle.
At the end, there's a music video called "Circle of Colors" which comes in three different languages.
The gameplay mostly resembles that of Visual Novels.
If anyone knows what this app is called, PLEASE tell me. I've been looking for it everywhere but cannot find it.
Edited by ReshpeckowiggleWeb game(s)/site about technological edutainment? Videogame
My memory on this game(s) or site is VERY hazy, but the gist of it that I recall is that I likely played it online, and it occurs in a world of personified technological concepts. I kinda remember spam-mail being represented as a rather ugly female caricature with heavy makeup and lipstickwd Gag Lips.
I lean towards at least some of it being in a not-that-refined 3D style (early 2000s stuff likely), but I recall more than one way that the gameplay panned out, all having a 3rd-person view, but it may be that they both existed.
- You explore your surroundings by clicking on adjacent sides of the screen (where a path starts/continues), the player character walks that way and the scene changes to that adjacent area. Not quite a birds-eye-view as the "board game" mode, but far enough to see most of the surrounding area and paths to take.
- A layout akin to a board game, where you walk on squares that join to perpendicular paths. Some squares are desirable to be/land on, some are not. I believe the "spam mail lady" that I mentioned earlier was here as an undesirable square. I vaguely recall the objective: to reach a computer lab, which was either at the middle of the map, the end of the "maze", or both.
Netflix - Two Families “Share” a House Live Action TV
Hi everyone!! So to preface I saw about an episode of this back in like 2019-2020 and it was in Spanish (but I can’t remember if I put on Spanish dub or thats what it’s originally in). It was comedy-drama about a wealthy family going broke and having to live in a house connected to another family, but they have this feud. The other family works in a sea-side market and I think the kid of one family likes the kid of the other? I believe they were also both single parents, one of all girls and one of all boys. It is not “The War Next-Door” fyi. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
