Find a Trope:
openSeeking the trope for a Karnivool song lyric Music
In the song by Karnivool, 'Set Fire To The Hive', there is the line:
"I spit in the mouth of your god, who whispers in the minds of our children."
I thought this would be an example of "Did you just ... Cthulu", but I can't find one that works exactly. It's more than just a "flip off"; it's closer to a a punch, but not as extreme as a "punch out". Its close to "Rage against the heavens", but it has a physical element. There are a few others that don't really work because there is no followup to the action. It probably falls into "Spiteful Spit", but is it extra-special because it's against a god? In any case, thanks for your help.
openStop and start song Music
Is there a trope for a song that alternates between having a beat and just being ambient-esque sounds? this is a prime example (although the beatless part doesn't start till about 9 minutes in.
openDark Reprise/Triumphant Reprise but for obviously silly musical arrangements Music
the Girls' Frontline Madness Chapter ending theme is basically a sillier-in-tone arrangement of this song (the matching part is timestamped). do we have any trope that fits the bill?
openStorytelling Songs About Mundane Life Music
Is there a trope for mundane songs about everyday live, lile many of Billy Joel's songs?
openGuilt song Music
Posted something like this a long time ago but could never get an answer for some reason. Is the a trope for a song where the singer is singing about how they feel guilty over doing some bad thing (and maybe apologizing as well?) Examples: Sweet Escape by Gwen Stefani and Careless Whisper by George Michael. Would this just be a music example of Heel Realization or is there something more specific?
openNaming: Lead Singer and the Band (for bands, duh) Music
Self-describing. Any chance to submit that? Could get a very Long List, maybe keep it to in-universe like Josie And The Pussycats or Alvin And The Chipmunks?
openModern classical Music
Is there a trope for when a song is made to sound like Classical Music but was made in modern times? Example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6qT0Zbpxqw sounds classical but was made in 1981
Edited by BootlebatopenNo Title Music
What tropes would cover Silly Love Songs where guys sing about shy, insecure girls who don't wear make-up. For example Before You Exit's "I Like That" and One Republic's "You Don't Know You're Beautiful". Girl Next Door? Unkempt Beauty?
openGoing solo means going "adult" Music
Do we have something for, when a musical act that's mainly known for singing wholesome music breaks up or a member leaves, one or more members start releasing music that's more adult in theme as a solo act? I'm thinking of Zayn from 1D and DNCE post-Jonas Brothers, but I know this is a fairly widespread thing.
openLast-Second Word Addition Music
Related to Last-Second Word Swap: A line seems to end meaning one thing (probably dirty), but then the next line continues the sentence and changes the meaning.
Example in MCR's "The Sharpest Lives:
openSong completely changes mid way through Music
What's the trope for a song that completely changes part way through? For example https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nUL9Nerbk-s change happens at about 4:50
openChain Song Music
What is important (to me) is that the refrain gets longer and longer. Actually, "Hole in the Bucket" (cf. Chain of Deals) is no example, since it's iterative. Obviously any song based on Aarne-Thompson 550 qualifies ("Highdown Fair"). Very common in children play. Tropable?
openSongs about vampires Music
Our Vampires Are Different doesn't seem to have a Music subpage. So where do songs about vampires go?
openFade to background noise Music
The last track of an album is longer and when the music proper ends, mundane ambient sounds play (kids playing, birds chirping, wind blowing through trees, etc.)
openSlowing down and drawing the end out Music
What's the trope for when, in big band jazz, they slow it down a tad at the end, and the trope for when the singer really drags out the last note? One example of this is Sammy Davis Jr. at the end of "Birth of the Blues," but it's been done thousands of times.
openBuilding up, then cutting off Music
When the song seemingly builds up towards a climax, but then instantly cuts to silence (no fade-out or record scratch). The closest I could find was Musicalis Interruptus. One example I can think of is Darkness Visible.
openTrops in Ice Age By Serena Ryder Music
This music video is about a sad old woman listening to a song and found her youth back but I can't seem to find the right trope for it, can someone help me out? Ice Age by Serena Ryder https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1NJyxUN_mM8
open"The Making Of This Music Video" Music Video Music
Subset of Concept Video, not sure if we have a more specific trope for it. The music video is about the making of the music video, intercutting things like making the set and props with the final view of the video.
Examples: The Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue, Lips Are Movin by Meghan Trainor
The vocalist of a (usually rock/metal) group says something right before a solo (or breakdown, or other instrumental passage) hits.
See: The Darkness's "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" at ~1:52, "Guitar!"
Roadrunner United's "In the Fire" at ~2:26, "Now go to hell!"
The Showdown's "Temptation Come My Way" at ~2:45, "Watch this!"
A Day to Remember's "Mr. Highway's Thinking About the End" at ~2:38, "Disrespect your surroundings!"
