The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
The more general trope is Glamour Failure.
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenzaThat one doesn't seem to fit the Hybrid x Heart example I'm thinking of, since there isn't any magic involved.
When any of the girls enters the "Love Room" with Kizuna, it automatically changes their clothing and the room itself based on each of their hidden fetishes. In public, Yurishia acts the part of a Proper Lady because it's what's expected of her. But when she enters the Love Room for the first time, the room changed to an S&M style play room and Yurishia's attire changed to bondage wear.
The light novel goes further by explaining that it's because Yurishia is secretly a masochist and a sexual submissive. As she grows more accustomed to bonding with Kizuna, she begins to accept her true nature.
Each of the other girls has to face their own hidden aspects and desires in order to unlock their true power. Which is why The Mirror Shows Your True Self was the closest trope I could think of, but the description doesn't seem to allow for technology.
Edited by MiinU I wouldn't mind failure so much, if I didn't fail so much. You might wanna check out Appearance Is in the Eye of the Beholder, Something for Everyone, and Empathic Shapeshifter.
Appearance Is in the Eye of theBeholder: Doesn't apply since the girls aren't casting an illusion when they're in public. Their attire is the only thing that changes, which only happens while they're in the Love Room.
I can also rule out Empathic Shapeshifter for the same reason.
Something for Everyone would apply to the Love Room itself, rather than the girls, since it's designed to accommodate each one's individual kink. So I might default to that one if I can't find a more suitable one.
I wouldn't mind failure so much, if I didn't fail so much.An example of the externally-enabled variety of Vision Quest
^Yes! i just read the trope description for Vision Quest and I'd say that covers it. Thanks.
I wouldn't mind failure so much, if I didn't fail so much.
I'm still working on the Hybrid X Heart Magias Academy Ataraxia page and need clarification on the The Mirror Shows Your True Self trope.
According to the description, it seems to be strictly about mirrors only, but I've seen variants where magic caves and astral projection also reveal the true self. Hybrid x Heart's take on it uses the "Love Room" (their version of a holodeck) to reveal each girl's inner kink.
So my question is: Does The Mirror Shows Your True Self allow for such variations, or is there another trope like it that does?
