Find a Trope:
openTropes for Gossip Magazine
Is their any tropes for when a niche or odd newspaper or magazine ends up being the most reliable source of information?
openThe One that Got Away but for Serial Killers
I looked up the One that Got Away from the Sin City page but the examples on the page itself are mostly romantic. Its is ok to use the One that Got Away for a serial killer that lost a victim because I seen Serial Killer variant discussed on the page even though all the examples are only the romantic variant.
openMistaken for thief?
What's the trope for when a character is thought to have stolen, but they haven't?
openSoul binding
A trope where two character's souls are bound together, and if one of them die so will the other?
openWrong Deadly Euphemism (NaruHinaFan)
Is there a specific tripe where someone is using what is believed to be a deadly euphemism such as "we evacuated the whole city" and someone who has heard such euphemisms before cough Nazis cough gets the wrong idea and thinks the city's residents were all murdered.
Edited by NaruHinaFanopenCar Window Rivalry
Two people are at a stoplight and looking at each other through their car windows. Usually they hit the gas on the car to challenge the other to a race when the light turns green, and often one of the cars is much more impressive than the other. I've seen parodies in things like Drake & Josh and You Again.
openEpisode 6 of Tenrou Sirius The Jaeger
Recently I watched the 6th episode of Tenrou Sirius the Jaeger. And here's another question for you all:
1. In this episode, the leader of the Jaegers, Willard, advises Yuliy that he doesn't need to be the Jaeger anymore so that he don't want to see him suffer after Yuliy kills his brother and wants Yuliy live a happy life. However, Yuliy refuses as this is his way of living so that he could accomplish his revenge towards the Vampires that ravaged his village.
2. What's the best trope for the scene where two men are bathing with each other in a bathing in the bathing pool (They don't have sex or perform lecherous acts. They just have a small chat together)
openCharacter faces bully
A character has to face off against their bully in some challenge. Often a traditional fight where the protagonist has to train to defend themselves, but can also be an actual competition- in any case, the bully is usually the one to call the challenge so they can humiliate the hero, either by letting them back down as a coward or by beating them horribly, but the protagonist typically wins in the end.
Examples include: Buford challenging Phineas to a thumb-war in Phineas and Ferb, Ned having to have a weight-lifting contest against Loomer in Ned's Declassified School Survival Guide and Josh fighting a bully in the pilot of Drake & Josh.

This is when a game names each level after its position in a world, like in Super Mario Bros where the levels are named 1-1, 1-2, etc. Is there a trope for this already?
Edited by ThatDerpyFoxopenA trope for a secret
Okay, I know this is probably here somewhere, but I'm looking for a trope wherein one character believes another has a specific secret affecting their actions, only to find it's another secret. The example I have is a boy thinking his father is working late and spending time away from the family because he's cheating on his wife, when in reality it turns out the Dad is trying to hide a devastating financial blunder than may bankrupt his family.
openMain character in book screams Literature
Is there a trope for where the main character in a book (usually 1st person) hears a scream then realizes they're the one who screamed? It will say something like "I heard a loud shriek and it took me a moment to realize it was coming from me" or something along those lines (but hopefully not as poorly written as that.) I feel like I've seen this in books so many times.
openHurt the Pet
Related to Creator's Pet. This is when a writer gets worried that the audience will accuse them of favoring a certain character more than necessary (if not already being accused of such). So to fight off such accusations, the writer puts the designated Creator's Pet in such a horrible situation as if to prove that that character is not the Creator's Pet.
Is there a trope like this? Or with a description similar to this?
openTypecasting giving away plot twists Film
Basically the opposite of Playing with Character Type. I'm referring to those cases in which the attempt to have the audience wondering whether a character's intentions are ultimately good or bad, is pretty much ruined by the casting of someone who typically plays the kind of role that character ends up really being. As in if the role is played by an actor who's most frequently the villain, their unmasking as the villain after pretending to be a good guy all through is a dull surprise, and the other way around.
I'm particularly thinking about The Hunt for Red October. For about half of the movie we're supposed to wonder whether Marko Ramius is a villain about to attack the USA, until Jack Ryan discovers that he actually wants to desert the Soviet Union for the States. Problem? Ramius is played by Sean Connery, who is almost always the big hero star, so him being revealed as a good guy surprises no one because, you know, he's Sean friggin' Connery.

Is Get Your Mind Out of the Gutter flexible enough to cover this scenario below, or is there a more fitting trope?
open"You the way you used to be"
A new character shows up, acting the way a main character used to act pre-Character Development. They're not a Suspiciously Similar Substitute because the original character is still on the show. None of the characters wanted their jerk back, but it seems like the writers sort of did.
Happens on Buffy, where I think it's Willow who tells Giles that stuffy new Watcher Wesley is something like "you the way you used to be." (Although it could be I'm misremembering this entirely or confusing it with something else, I'm not at all sure.) I thought we had this, but I can't remember what it's called.
Edited by UnsungopenCharacters coming out the darkness to meet protagonist
Is there a trope for the following:
Main character goes to someplace dark, maybe an abandoned warehouse to look for something. Suddenly people appear from amongst the shadows and surround the character.
Thanks!
openIs there a trope for this?
Is there specifically a trope for when a character makes a threat against another only to carry it out anyway?
Example: Character A threatens to harm Character B's friend if Character B does not complete a specific task that Character A demands of them. Character B accomplishes the task, but Character A harms Character B's friend anyway despite promising not to if the task was completed.
I'm not sure if I asked about this beforehand. If I did, my mistake.
openNothing to be grateful for
Bob is considered an Ungrateful Bastard by Alice. However, the audience is clearly not expected to side with Alice on this.
For example, Bob has repainted Alice's house. Because Alice is a performance artist, she pays him in tickets to her show and is outraged that Bob would prefer money to the once-in-a-lifetime chance to see the great Alice on stage.
After a near death experience, a character is unable to find excitement in doing what they used to love and has to constantly be risking their life in order to feel alive?
