The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
Find a Trope:
openPsycho-Somatic
A character suffers an illness, but it turns out they aren't technically sick- the illness is all in their head, but producing real, physical, symptoms. Truth in Television.
openFake attack to rescue sentimental item Anime
A character, usually the protagonist, blindly attacks a villain. Side characters go "No don't!", the villain smirks and kicks their ass. Dust settles, main character stands up and has an item of sentimental value in their hand, that the villain had stolen earlier. Usually either something important to the protagonist or to one of the side characters that didn't believe in the hero.
One example is Naruto. During, I think, the Zabuza arc, Naruto bumrushes the villain, villain boots him away, and Naruto stands up with his headband.
openCreator's "more plausible" version of a character or thing is actually less so.
What trope would this be: the exact thing I am thinking of is how on the movie Fantastic Four: Rise Of The Silver Surfer the creators apparently thought Galactus as he appears in the comics (as a 30 foot tall humanoid with a weird helmet) was some how too silly or far-fetched. Their solution: change him to a planet sized intelligent cloud like Eldritch Abomination. How that is less far-fetched is anyone's guess (indeed, to me at least that seems less believable.) I tried putting this under Voodoo Shark but someone deleted it and said it wasn't a (failed) attempt to fix a plot hole so doesn't count. So what is it then?
open"did you do X? yes or no"
Is there a trope for when a character asks another character a simple question like "did you do X"? and rather than providing a yes or no they either act evasive, try to change the subject, or start to give some sort of excuse, and the other person gets mad and interrupts with something like "DID YOU DO X, YES OR NO!?", often punctuated with some swearing if they are mad enough.
openCostume divergence
When Diane’s costume initially looks like a Color Swapped version of Alice’s, but eventually gets unique.
openEager for fights
Is there a trope that describes someone that enjoys watching people fight?
openAuthor of the game and its soundtrack Videogame
As the title says, I'm working on a videogame page whose author is also the composer and singer of some songs of its sountrack. What Trivia page could fit this siuation?
openThink Louder
A gag (usually in comics) where a character thinks something, realizes it had no effect, and thinks it again in bigger letters (as opposed to actually saying it out loud).
For example, a Foxtrot strip has Paige and Nicole stand in the hallway thinking "Ask us to the dance", realize their approach isn't working, and start thinking "ASK US TO THE DANCE!!" instead.
Edited by Chabal2openPre-emptive Celebration
A character or characters expect something good to happen, and start celebrating in advance...usually for it to turn out that they were wrong.
openSpread The Wealth
A character finds himself at the aftermath of an drug deal gone bad and notices a suitcase full of money. He takes it for himself but then realize having all of it will understandably raise questions, so he decides to give out half of it to those in need or random people.
Edited by JC96openImmortality where you can be wounded
A character with a form of immortality where someone isn't Made of Iron and can actually be wounded, and they don't have a Healing Factor to recover from those wounds, but nevertheless those wounds won't actually kill them. So, if you stabbed them in the stomach, you would succeed in giving them a gaping stab wound, but they'd just keep coming at you regardless.
Sort of like Normally, I Would Be Dead Now, but as an actual supernatural ability rather than a temporary side-effect of Heroic Will Power. This is usually how zombies work, until you get around to Removing the Head or Destroying the Brain.
Edited by phalanxopenGifted a Free Knife
Someone gets stabbed with a weapon, and that weapon gets lodged in their flesh. Then, they pull out the weapon and start using it themselves. e.g. Ganondorf with the Sage's Sword in The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.
openAlice Presents An Alice Productions Film Directed by Alice Produced by Alice Starring Alice as Alice
A joke where the credits for an in-universe movie are shown, with one character credited as director/producer/lead actor/etc. The longer the joke goes on for, the more specific and absurd ("intern", "hiring department") the positions will get. Generally the idea is that the character is a narcissistic Prima Donna Director, hence why they feel the need to spend so much time on crediting themselves, and why nobody is willing to work with them.
openCharacter Stack Credits
A visual trope about ending themes that basically consist of the cast being either stacked up or hanging from the top of the screen, scrolling down to all the characters involved while the credits roll beside them.
An example would be the first ED of Durarara.
Edited by unfortunatezoruaopen"How can you NOT be having fun?"
What's the trope where one character enjoys an activity that no one else does, and yet is always surprised when he drags everyone along that no one's having fun?
Often seen on the Horrible Camping Trip, but can be used in any number of cultural activities: going to see a play, going fishing or hunting, watching a sports match, going to the museum, going to the gym, etc.
A very common occurrence is for the unenthusiastic person(s) to make such a nuisance of himself (such as repeatedly pointing out they never wanted to come along in the first place) that the enthusiast states he'll never bring them along again... and the other one thanks them effusively. This rarely sticks.
Edited by Chabal2openAnimals with pets
A setting where some animal characters are Funny Animals, who also happen to own less-sentient animals as pets (Mickey and Pluto, Arthur and Pal, etc)
openPlot for flavor Videogame
Plot only exist in the backstory and other media.
Does not affect anything in game.
League of Legends, Overwatch, Team Fortress 2. etc
Edited by AndermannopenDrowning in not-water
Is there a trope for when a character drowns in a liquid other than water?
Basically Soviet Superscience, but with Nazis instead. Such as HYDRA from the Marvel Universe.
