Less "secret society" and more "Instant Messenger".

@Enlong: Does that mean that giant Suika is easier to send flying or displace, a la Smash Bros.?

Not sure. Might be a bit easier than sending regular Suika flying, 'cause it's a bigger target?

I dunno. Heck, for all I know, she just may be able to manipulate her mass, and the bottomless gourd is used to supply her with Shapeshifter Baggage.

Suika Ibuki

Appearance/voice: asdf

Theme:\\ Onigashima in the Fairyland ~ Missing Power Broken Moon(Pre-Boss Ver.) Broken Moon(SWR)

Traits:

  • Gets stronger as she gets more drunk.
  • Last of Her Kind: Played with, at the least. There are certainly many more Oni around, such as Yuugi, but Suika is said to be the last Oni above ground. Suika's plot in Ia MP is to bring the Oni back to the above ground via the power of PARTY. So she's not really the last of her kind, but she might act like it is and is trying to make it not so. Or such and something.
  • Flat-Chested. Especially notable here.
  • Cheerful Child.

Relationships/Shipping:

  • Yuugi Hoshiguma(Fellow Deva of the Mountain.)
  • Reimu Hakurei(Suika is said to frequent the shrine and Reimu seems to know her. Suika also helps rebuild the shrine in SWR. Common ship.)
  • Tenshi Hinanai(Defeated. Suika became a landowner in Heaven and seems to have meddled with Tenshi in some parts of SWR, so they know each other on some level.)
  • Yukari Yakumo(They seem to be on friendly terms with each other and know each other.)
  • Aya Shameimaru(They seem to know each other very lightly. The Tengu were once subservant to the Oni and Suika often hangs about the Youkai Mountain. So Yeah.)

Write-up:\\ The final boss of Immaterial and Missing Power. Also a boss in Scarlet Weather Rhapsody and the Final Boss of Patchouli's SWR scenaro. The only character to appear in both Shoot the Bullet and Double Spoiler as a boss. She's also a partner in SA.

In Immaterial and Missing Power, she used her powers over Density to cause repeated parties all over Gensokyo in an attempt to draw out other Oni from the underground. Suika goes about and gathers people for the parties, beating up various people along the way, and eventully defeats Reimu. No Oni appear, however, due to a combination of Reimu's power and Suika's own shortcomings as an Oni. Notably, Suika's path is canon in Immaterial and Missing Power and is the only game where the antagonist has the only "canon" path(Tenshi's path, IIRC, is canon along with all other paths in SWR, but that includes ALL paths...)

She also had a minor hand in the plot of Scarlet Weather Rhapsody. More specifically, she defeated Tenshi and became a land owner of Heaven, and possibly uses her power to "gather" people to defeat Tenshi in boredom(Not sure about this part?). Notably, Suika's scenario is the second to occur timeline-wise, with Yuyuko's being the first. She also has Final Boss status during Patchouli's path.

She's also known for breaking the moon and reforming it in the course of one night.

Fanon usually depicts her as a cheerful child who often crashes at the Hakurei shrine. Canon agrees with this, Suika being an Oni wich almost automatically means "party hard, brother" in addition to having somewhat of a mischeavious child-like nature.

A notable work with Suika at the center would be Miko Miko Suika. Suika, however, is a popular character and often appears in many works not starring her.

Similar characters:

  • Yuyuko Saigyouji(Both have a somewhat tragic backstory, Yuyuko playing more tragic and Suika more just general depressiveness, but don't really act like it.)

Misc:

  • Suika is almost unanimously considered one of the strongest beings in Gensokyo. Aya calls her ""simply the most powerful youkai in Gensokyo"", although this is heavily debatable and most likely partly put out due to the Tengu's previous subserviance to Oni. According to Akyuu, "There is absolutely no chance for victory." for any human attempting to exterminate her or otherwise fight her.
  • Ibuki is the name of a mountain in Japan. Oni were said to live on it. It also had the highest snowfall in recorded history, 38.8 feet. You could say it ''gathered' a lot of snow.
  • Suika's name can also be re-arranged to spell "Watermelon" in Japan.
  • Suika seems to have apparantly been created as having big breasts. The result ended up being the quintessential loli. GJ.

Ruki's Notes:

Suika...a character I like a lot, always at the top of characters I like. I'm not sure how well I did the profile insofar, so I'll probably touch it up more tomorrow, but I said I would get it up tonight and even if it's 2 AM I WILL GET IT UP!

One thing I somewhat miss about Suika is that I don't think there is much, if any, fanworks giving her a very..."serious" role. I don't know, I can't think of the right words, but a lot of times it seems like some of the most interesting aspects of Suika are phased out. Although that might just be because, to me, some of the most interesting parts of Suika are her motivations/backstory and the fact that, throughout her storyline and interview with Aya, she shows amazing perceptiveness and flaw-calling ability. Despite this, I still very much enjoy renditions of Suika in a more "traditional" manner of speaking for Fanon. I also really enjoyed Miko Miko Suika, although the last one didn't work for me, too tired to go get a link right now so I'll edit it in tomorrow...

I also consider Demystify Feast one of her themes as well. However, it's apparantly actually just a generic boss theme in Ia MP, so I didn't include it above.

I'll tweak this more tomorrow. For today, Suika discussion OFFICAL!

This is super-minor but it's something that always comes to mind:

The picture in this video depicts Suika playing the guitar on the steps of the Hakurei Shrine. It's an interesting thing to see her doing, and while I'm not sure if I'd use guitar-playing (high school gave me an irrational hatred for guitarists), I'd like to depict Suika with some sort of somewhat unexpected but enjoyable "talent", possibly one that would get people to visit the shrine, and, preferably to me, one that would be easy to depict in writing.

Suika is awesome! Her fighting style, her laid-back personality, her frickin' awesome Ability... She's really cool, too, being all perceptive and intelligent.

Oh yeah, voices! Well, we've got the famous Tsurupettan by Silver Forest, IOSYS' Club Ibuki in Break All (my favourite), The Feast Lasts Forever and of course, Oni Goddess Girls:

BTW, I once spotted someone saying in a Wikipedia-article that Suika is 800 years. Have we got any kind of confirmation (or vague hints, for that matter) on Suika's age?

...I don't seem to have anything to say about her, other than that I did a picspam of her back on setsubun.

All we know about her age is that she's old enough to have been a Deva when the oni still ran the mountain. Since youkai don't seem to have a boundary on how long they can live...

Fanworks that give Suika a serious role?

There's Maruchira's Why did she leave the miniature garden? wherein one last deceit was the last straw for Suika abandoning the aboveground.

Also, Sayakata Tea Mansion's Suika in Yakumo Family. The only oni above ground. Where does she belong?

Usually Dead's Repose and Inclusive Power. Really more Reimu-centric but UD's version of Suika has a big role in driving the plot and smashing some peaches.

More silly than serious, Colorful Cube's Ogre and the Ice Fairy. Suika sets her sights on the STRONGEST. Can she hope to beat Cirno?

That's really all I can think of right now. I'll try some character alternate interpretationing later today.

My favorite thing about Suika is the way she fights in the fighting games. She just looks absolutely hilarious. This little kid is clearly falling down drunk, swaying back and forward when she tries to stand still (possibly laughing), running around with her arms flying in the most useless position, and lying down or lunging forward to throw the bombs for her projectile attacks... and yet she beats the crap out of everyone anyways. She can actually beat the last form of the final boss of SWR lying down.

As for fics with serious Suika, I'll point a finger towards The Shrine of Gensokyo, where she takes over some of Reimu's duties in her absence but eventually needs to find Reimu and drag her back. Also, she has the role of single-handedly undoing most of the Downer Ending in Concealed the Conclusion, in the extra stage.

Also, I'd like to point out that The Feast Never Ends was actually a remix of Yukari's theme, though appropriate for Suika. I think most people do consider Demystify Feast one of Suika's themes, though its place in the story doesn't really support it. It fits her well though (the climax of the song brings to mind fireworks and parties, at least to me) and noone else can lay claim to it.

@ Lemurian: Touhou Wiki puts her age as "Unknown" and I can't find anything in her offical profiles or Aya/Akyuu's articles. I'll check the scripts later, but it's safe to assume we don't know Suika's age I think.

Also, amusing video is amusing.

@ Bocaj: Thanks for all of those! I've read two so far(Colorful Cube, which was a bit short but good, and Suika in Yakumo Family, which I quite enjoyed) and I'll probably finish reading the rest shortly. Thanks for gathering those!

@ Brickman: Yeah, her fighting style is cool. I was never really good with her though, couldn't get the approach down. Got a friend who mains her though, pretty cool stuff.

Holy crap, Why Did She Leave the Miniature Garden is good. I especially liked the way page 12 worked as a little Wham Page as you realize just what the "event" she's so excited about was, and everything suddenly feels a little bit more important. And the Title Drop.

Brickman finished it about when I did! Evil clone, I say, evil clone!

But yeah, it WAS pretty good...probably my favorite insofar of all the posted material. I'm trying and failing to think of something to add to this, so I guess I'll just end it on that note.

I really should try and put more thought into my talking of finished material because in retrospect this post is useless aside from the obvious "Dude that was good"ness.

Onis Out Extra is a four page extra chapter to the Why did she leave the miniature garden? comic that covers Yukari's return and reaction. Suika is absent from the extra, sadly. I don't know whether the mediafire link bundled them together or not.

I wish I were better at IaMP's battle system so I could play against final boss Suika more often. I just find the SWR system easier to play with.

Do you think Suika's ability to manipulate her density means she could turn herself into a neutron star/black hole/equally massive space anomaly?

Yes. She could totally give Mobster Kingpin a run for his money.

Turning herself into a negative space wedgie is practically what she does for her Pandemonium and Breath "Small Oni's Deep Breath" spellcards. She could fuel an entire season's worth of Star Trek plots by herself is what I'm getting at.
