Well yeah. The only exceptions (eg that of Death Note, Attack on Titan) are just generally brilliant characters, I have a hard time caring about protagonists unless they're well-written.

Not really. All you need to work on long projects is to be organized and disciplined. Plan things out, take things one step at a time, and don't wait until the last minute to do anything.
