Why would Mari being taller, visibly or not, be a surprise? She's both older and half British.

OK, she's older by 8 months^note unless you subscribe to the fan theory that the final extra chapter in Sadamoto's NGE manga is actually canon to Rebuild if we use the "VA rule" that is observed in most NGE characters (March 31st vs. December 4th), so in hindsight it might be plausible that she would be noticeably taller than Asuka, considering that they're both in the early years of puberty and thus should be in the middle or near the end of their rapid growth spurt. However, if we want to go by averages, it seems the German average for female height across the whole country is actually about 7 cm higher than the British (well, English) one for roughly the same demographic group, so logic dictates that either Asuka is several cm below average or Mari is several cm above average.

Yeah, in fairness it does seem excessive, but considering the circumstances, namely:

• Up until now, the only way to watch the original EVA series was via third-party (aka pirate) streaming sites or out-of-print DVDs with obscenely expensive aftermarket prices.

So they never got in contact with the original English dub voices of NGE. This is bullshit. I was upset at Amanda Winn Lee not being Rebuild Rei but Rebuild Rei is a different character from the original so whatever.

But this? She was such a perfect Rei....

And the others were great too of course.

Okay, I may understand the necessity of having a new dub when the original one is hard to get a hold of, and MAYBE it means new voice actors.

But all that having been said...yeah, even I admit not even contacting the original dub cast of any developments reeks of inconsideration.

I'm guessing that they're going to use famous voice actors in the dub since the dub will most likely be recorded at Bang Zoom! in Burbank or SDI Media in Los Angeles. Speaking of which, maybe Brina Palencia will reprise her role as Rei given the actress splits her time between Dallas and Los Angeles. Also, Johnny Yong Bosch could play Shinji. Thoughts?

That would be a hilarious contrast for Johnny Young Bosch after voicing the likes of Lelouche from Code Geass.

It does make me wonder though how perception of a character can change based on their voice.

...I can actually see that working.

JYB usually voices the hot-headed/super-confident type of protagonist, so seeing him tackle Shinji, who's neither of those things, could really prove his acting chops.

(Or maybe everyone will just think it's too safe and predictable...)

Though it's got me thinking who could voice Asuka? Cherami Leigh?

Leigh, Catherine Taber or Cassandra Lee could play Asuka. Also, Erika Harlacher or Vanessa Marshall could play Misato. Netflix could even go the Studio Ghibli route and hire a Celebrity Voice Actor like Tina Fey or Catherine O'Hara.

If only Robin Williams was still with us, he'd have been a great Gendo. He could dod rama and horror as well as comedy even if it will probably always be his comedy he is remembered for.

And Cherami Leigh is a fantastic VA. But how is her German?

And AWL will always be the best Rei.

Maybe they might get an LA-based actress who knows quite a bit of German for Asuka?

I still remember the rumor that he auditioned but FU Ni didn’t have the cash for him. It’s sadly a case of What Could Have Been.

Or maybe they might have gotten an actual German actress for Asuka in the dub. Maybe they could go the Multiple Languages, Same Voice Actor route if the actress dubbed her in both German and English. I could be wrong.

The Rule of Symbolism one? It is indeed true that Unit 02 is the only Evangelion with non-red blood in the TV series (this was averted in Rebuild), but then Sachiel is also the only Angel with non-red blood. I chalk it up to an error on part of the artist/animation team, rather than any kind of deliberate symbolism.

Besides, is there even a definitive association of a specific color with the deadly sin of pride, or indeed any of the sins besides wrath (red) and envy (green)?

I have seen stuff online claim color associations with the cardinal sins, including violet/purple for pride, but never any explanation or source cited for said associations.

So the new dub is coming out in less than a month. Did we ever get a cast release?

Nope. To my knowledge, the only info we have on it is that they never had any intention of contacting the original cast, who were allowed to audition after discovering that auditions had already begun. That update came back in March.

How did people find out who was voicing whom in the Bang Zoom! dub of A.I.C.O. Incarnation (y'know, that one anime where the initial dub was so bad, Netflix had to pay Bang Zoom to make a new one)?

Because I could've sworn we only found about the Bang Zoom cast because someone posted the cast list on Twitter one time.

Come to think of it, I don't know if Netflix really does bother bringing up any English dub casts most of the time...
