OK, now I'm confused. FMA has far fewer fights and more story than most shonen I've been exposed to. I thought seinen was supposed to be characterized by deeper and more mature plots and characters, which FMA has out the wazoo?

Gungrave. Starts out looking like some kind of Hellsing knockoff, but hang in there 'til the second episode - it's a pretty damn neat mafia story. Tamer than The Sopranos and whatnot, and I wish they'd developed Bob and Lee's characters a bit more, but still worth a look.

well, you're right actually. Seinen is a demographic, not a genre. I'm aware of that, but it's like The Creature having inherited the name of Frankenstein. that's not his name, but it might as well be. So many people are associating Seinen as a genre that they've Got Me Doing It. Sincerest apologies.
When i say awesome as hell, i mean either Badassery or Made Of Win writing, ideally both.
So yes, i will take Shonen recommendations as well, but if it takes too much after Dragon Ball, i've no use for it. I want something a little more... mature. In a good way, of course.

It starts a bit slow, with weird art, but once the story takes off, you will hear yourself saying constantly Holy Shit.
