me I havnt played the first two but i've been immersed in the third for quite some time now. takign into account that i play a heavily modded game and i'm quite upset abiout how linier the vanilla game is compared to what i hear about the dynamics of the second one. I do enjoy it. the frustrating thing is when people complain ab out it being too easy and hospitaboe. try saying that while doing only a handfull of the quests. normally I do two DLC quests right away. Anchorage and Mothership Zeta. and even Zeta i won't start untill i've maxed Science Repair and Lockpick. my big problem is i'm a grinder. and i find the grinding incredibly frustrating in how it works in the game. tht is just my own problems there. that said also i LIKE being able to be ag od of the wasteland and being able to max out all moy Skills/Attributes so i like that option. why do people bitch about Bobbleheads and skillbooks? they don't ahve to use them and if you want to keep a "challenge" j ust take useless pers and such on level up. me personally i'm just sic,k of all the complaining. I would understand if Fallout III blatently contredicted the established Canon of the previous games but otherwise it just seams stupid to get into camps. I'm sure the older games are very good in their own right but bashing Fallout III it's like being an American Patriot and saying that all other countries suck. its ok to be proud ofyour own country but not to the exclusion of others

Um… Think of it this way: Imagine Doom 3 had been like Doom RL. That's kind of what happened to Fallout.

ok here it is I would like quote the words of Moviebob. H ard as Hell isn't a selling point for everybody again me personally if Fallout were hard at the level of the "hardcore" players expectations it'd probobly rage quit because it felt more like work. even the way it is right now is p ushing work for me.and then its the complaints about realism. and here i know i'm just complaining about Complaining but i ju st need to get this out of my system. what are people bitching about with Aliens? there was established evidence in prior games of alien life. yet people act like Mothership Zeta made things RUINED FOREVER. and as for people bitching about things being unrealistic and not matching up with the real world and scientific fact TO THE LETTER. IT'S NOT THE REAL WORLD! DEAL WITH IT OR GTFO! why is it that games are no longer expected to be FUN rather they are expected to be Ultra Realistic and Hard as Hell. again where is the fun in being in a harsher version of the real world?

Two things

1. The New Vegas topic is that way

2. Hardcore mode exists because people are going to mod it in anyway, why can't vanilla guys enjoy it too? IIRC its a popular mod too.

Wait, does you're post mean "when did mention New Vegas?" or "I didn't know that we had a Fallout: New Vegas topic"?

If its the former, its because you mentioned hard as hell and hardcore. Granted that it was mentioned with quotation marks.

A game being hard as or realistic is hard to market because...well it's hard, and people have a different interpretation of reality. But that doesn't mean there's no market, Demon Souls shows otherwise.

Hardcore mode is just tacked to satisfy those players, infact it's the reason i'll be buying that game. But hey if game has a hardcore mode and if it offends you, guess what.

You don't have to play that mode.

Thing about the Hardcore mode of New Vegas: it's not necessarally all that "hard". It's designed to satisfy the niche of players who, like me, enjoy a little more realism in our survival games. I thought it was ridiculous that, in FO 3, I could charge into a base full of supermutants as a One-Man Army and never fear for my life, because I could stop time at any moment and apply enough stimpacks to restore my health to full.

It got to the point where self-imposed challenges were the only way for me to enjoy the game (I went through one game never using a stimpack; I did all my healing with food items and cannibalism). The hardcore mode will save me the trouble of coming up with self-imposed challenges, for awhile at least.

ok m,isunderstanding. on the subject of hardcore mode i have no problem with it whatsoever so long as it remains optional and not obligetory. it doesn't offend me in the least just getting sick of people talking about Fallout III as too easy. yeah of corse its too easy because you've done it all before. bit it was for example my first time playign it. and some others first time playing that sort of game to. the way it is f or them is hard as hell. especailly for a grinder

Well if youre a kleptomaniac it can get really easy right around you get the nuke launcher. By then you can get more stimpacks than god.

Edit: it was also my first time playing this kind of game.

I tend to preferr to watch my karma personally and having to walk all the way to just about every possible merchant to get a good price on things is quite tedius

@Litis: Doom RL is a Rogue Like (the very driest and most intimidating of RPGs: No graphics, no action, no interface, no handholding) while Doom proper is the archetypal First-Person Shooter (state-of-the-art technology, all action, no complexity, no nonlinearity.)

I'm really sorry I necro this, but I had no other place to post this and I didn't want to create a thread just for the sake of getting help:

I'm stuck with the end battle turrets. I've got the Presidential Access Key, and I'm consistently trying to use it with the console to no avail. I tried using it with the console (doesn't work, obviously) and using the console itself - there's no option to active insurgency or whatever it's called. My character has 9 INT, Gifted (yeah, I know) and 65% Science. I'm playing with sfall 2.6 and upgraded to 2.12 in light of this issue - as far as I know it shouldn't break anything. What did I miss?

You need 100% science.

So yeah, good luck xD*it is possible to defeat all turrets and Horrigan, but like I said, good luck*

If you have mentats and put game difficulty to easy, you might with luck get science over 100% =P Try that unless you want to fight all turrets.(and in case its still not 100%, you could try changing combat difficult to easy and pray xD)

My character must have 100% Science just to use a fucking key card with a computer?! D:

Oh well. Maybe I'll be able to take all the turrets out together with the Enclave guys before they crit me to hell and back. Horrigan is kinda the lesser of the worries here...

I suggest that you change combat difficulty to easy =/ I know it feels very dirty, but you don't really have other choice unless you get very lucky.

just somthign for those who bitch about realism. yeah we get that it's not realistic but is it consistent with the rest of the series and itself?

I bought a cheap 1+2+Tactics pack today, because Gametap and Mc Afee don't get along....Anyway, how can I tell what versions are on it? I don't want to have to mess around with patching if I don't have to...

They have all the player mods, if I remember correctly; you can choose which version to install: vanilla, or modded.

Has anyone here used Fallout 3 Wanderers Addition, and if so, could they offer their opinion on its quality?

It's good. Not perfect but good. And highly customizable. Should be played in a tandem with WMK, Martigen's Mutants Mod and whatever other mods you want to use IMHO.

On the subject of Fallout, I never understood why so many people like the Enclave. They are easily the most vile, repulsive, and downright evil faction in the entire setting. Ceaser's Legion may not be very pleasent, but at least they never tried to commit genocide. Twice.

I am.. not sure? The Enclave was pretty blatantly evil in Fallout 2 too and always felt like the weakest point of that game for me. I mean, the part on the oil rig was well designed, and their look was cool but.. that was it.

Caesar's Legion would actually be a pretty cool faction if they didn't go too far with the execution. I'm still puzzled on why they're so backwards when it comes to technology for example.

^^ I'm sorry, but I don't understand that. You don't like them because they're villains? I know Fallout is generally big on Grey-and-Gray Morality, but there are plenty of outright evil people in every game, the Enclave just happen to be the most evil. (IMO, at least)
