During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard

Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

Meant to get to this before its release, but anyone mind if I take the Carmilla the Series novel off my discussion list ? I found out that it's gonna be an adaptation of the first season as opposed to anything new, and barring some Adaptational Villainy, some kind of Ass Pull or extreme Loophole Abuse, Inanna/Lilita Morgan is probably not gonna make the cut.

Now, Jackie and I have quite the collab, from one of my old favorite comics: The Goon.
What's the work?
Written by Eric Powell, an award winning series featuring its titular hero: The Goon. A former freak circus assistant and muscle bound strongman, The Goon is the muscle of the mob boss Labrazzio, who helps to defend his city. Along with his sidekick Frankie, The Goon fights for the people. A big, tough softie who loves kids, innocent folks andtakes on everything from zombies to aliens to giant robots, with a touch of exceptional comedy, the Goon is one hell of a work...now, most villains are a bit too funny to take seriously, but there are exceptions. One of them? Harrison Blank.
Who is Harrison Blank?
The owner of the Pentagram Girdle Factory and a nasty robber baron who cuts all sorts of corners to maximize profits...when he is informed by the fire marshal how unsafe the location is, Blank simply bribes the inspector....he has no sprinklers, no fire escapes, locks the women in the factory, and justifies it with the costs. Oh, and they're "ghetto trash and foreigners" , smugly dismissing the idea of a fire, claiming hee 'barely makes enough to get by' before helping himself to a lunch of caviar, truffles, lobster and expensive wine.
Things go wrong when the foreman locks the women in for 15 minutes...and a fire indeed starts (anyone knows the obvious historical event this is designed to parallel? Thanks to Blank's neglect and corner-cutting, the women of the factory and trapped and burn alive....with many throwing themselves from the building. 142 women die in all. Blank is put on trial where he smugly remarks it was all the fault of the workers who didn't follow the 'strict safety regulations' he put in place. Utterly devoid of remorse, Blank simply makes a bundle from fire insurance money...the women, furious, form a garment-workers' union to protest for living conditions and wages. Blank? Sends his foreman and thugs to bust them, showing 'no mercy to man, woman or child' with savage beating and some fatalities. The union workers, at the end of their rope? Call The Goon for help...who happily assists and busts some jaws of Blank's thugs.
Blank even tries to contract wiht the evil Zombie Priest, offering hi soul to call up a demon to help attack and beat the unions into submission or slaughter them, when Goon leads the fight again, in a savage gang war...however, the ghost of one of his victims? As Blank furiously denounces the crowds? An old woman appears in his office, telling him that she died in the fire, as her son and husband died in his mines...and she's here for payback. The issue ends as she advances on a terrified Blank, hands closing on his face.
Heinousness?
the Goon has a bit of a high one to be sure, but nobody is quite this repulsive on a realistic level. Blank gets hundreds killed, and his union busting threatens hundred if not thousands more, for such a low figure on the totem pole? Pass.
Mitigating Qualities?
I'd like to say Blank is too much a caricature, but the Triangle Shirtwaist Fire proves he sadly isn't. He's greed and avarice on two legs, and while he didn't intentionally start the fire? It's revealed he cuts corners for safety for years with his mines and factories, figuring the deaths cause him less trouble than fixing things...he even disdains the idea of making less profit to make conditions safe. Even after the fire he has zero remorse and happily sends his thugs to crush the unions, even summoning a demon to murder or subdue them.
Conclusion?
A hearty yes
to Blank.

My second Goon proposal? And the most, IMO, despicable villain in the series...Longfingers.
Who is Longfingers?
A sinister bogeyman, a monster from olden times...Longfingers is a member of The Coven, a group that arrives to bring the war to the City and the Goon, to create the paradises they wish for. Led by a figure known only as 'The Arab,' the Coven are creatures of terrifying power and demeanor....Longfingers is introduced at the church he calls home where he lures people in to feed upon, gnawing on the bones of his victims when one of his allies comes calling. Gleefully assisting in bringing in the gang war to wipe out the Goon, Longfingers is a nasty member of the team...and then we learn what makes him truly tick.
Longfingers preys on children, kidnapping the to eat them, while tormenting their parents. We see in flashback a sweet, middle aged woman who wanted a child all her life, but was finally blessed with a sweet, gentle, clever little boy who became her entire world. Longfingers heard about 'the old maid who became a mother' and paid a little visit...the little boy vanished, and several days later, the mother received her son's teeth in a littl,e coffin-shaped box, Longfingers feeding off her despair as surely as he fed on the child's flesh, something that is utterly routine for him.
Now, things reach an eventual head with the Coven and Longfingers grows sick of delays, even turning on and murdering one of his own teammates by tearing his face and initiating a battle with The Goon. Sick of the sadistic creep, the Goon faces him down and in a massive battle, he breaks off Longfingers' arms. Longfingers panics and screams that this was supposed to be his promised land. Goon calmly says if this is his idea of heaven? "Then you deserve to die like this" before he either crushes or rips Longfingers' head clean off.
Heinousness?
That thing with the kids? Nobody else eats children like that to torture their parents. Unique, singularly monstrous, next question.
Mitigating Qualities?
Longfingers is explicitly the worst of his group. It's made clear that he's sadist first and a predator second, who feeds off pain and misery. No agency problems, no hint of redeeming qualities. He's just a sickening beast and sadist.
Conclusion?
Easy yes.
Ultimate Moral Compass
A definite for Blank and Longfingers. Expect my candidate tomorrow, as I’m at work at the moment.
