During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk
to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.

Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

J.K. Simmons played Terence Fletcher in Whiplash. I think that'd be the most obvious, and I think Fletcher was actually brought here, but failed the critera since "jackass" does not equate to "Monster." He's a real son of a bitch, though.

Yeah, Fletcher is a terrible bastard, but a CM he is not.
What actors I could never imagine as Complete Monsters... Hmm...
Will Ferrell, Jim Carrey: While they play a lot of Jerkasses, they're characters are simply that: Jerkasses. Plus they're in a lot of comedy movies so the probability of then actual playing horrible people goes down tremendously.
Daniel Radcliffe: Come on, can YOU imagine the man who played Harry Potter as a monstrous serial killer?
Weird Al Yankovic: I know he's not an actor, but he's done a little bit of TV voice work. Man's too funny to be taken seriously as a racist homophobe for example.
Carrie Fisher: I know it was hard to believe Mark Hamill would play monstrous cartoon villain but unless you count Peter Griffin's boss in Peter-assment (which would be stupid since the Griffins and their friends do way worse) I really can't see her in a monstrous role.
Has Keith Szarabajka ever played a CM? I swear that man has the most terrifying voice in human history.
@Mediawatcher: Under exactly what circumstances could Shou Tucker not be a CM? I consider him among the worst on the trope.

More actors it'd be hard to imagine as CMs: Pretty much the entire cast of Full House (and most 90s family sitcoms for that matter, with the possible exception of James Avery, who could be freaking terrifying when angry on' Fresh Prince).

You've got roaming bands of armed, aggressive, tyrannical plumbers coming to your door, saying "Use our service, or else!"
This is kinda of an idea, I'm just throwing out there, but anyone think "Gerald Cretan" the Villain Protagonist of the short story "Forbidden After Dark" could count.
He's a sane Serial Killer who kills For the Evulz by creating deadly products like easily combusting cars, a shower deathtrap, eventually murdered children horrifically with a saw mill, feigned insanity and also left his friend at the insane asylum to die while he burned the asylum down and escaped, still at large.

Curiosity is getting the better of me... why is Dylan Gould considered a CM? I recently rewatched the film and honestly nothing he does sticks out to me as being particularly heinous. I'm not asking he be cut, I just want to see a solid case as to why he is indisputably one. His post doesn't sell it to me.
I... honestly don't see him as a CM. He's a Dirty Coward, but he's more that than actively malicious. Every major antagonist seems to outshoot him in antagonist, most troublingly Attinger. He doesn't scream CM to me, just a yellow-bellied weasel in it to save his own ass.

Okay, having just seen the book on tape version of the story on You Tube, I have to say, you have found a perfect candidate Monsund. On your behalf, I shall do the effortpost on Gerald Cretan for you.
Who is Gerald Cretan and what does he do?
Gerald Cretan is the Villain Protagonist of Forbidden After Dark. Cretan is a Serial Killer who did everything he did For the Evulz. In 1974, he opened an auto repair shop, where he rigged his customers cars soo they would die. He caused pile ups which resulted in many deaths. Since there was no proof he did it intentionally, he only got two years. After his release, he started a home repair service, where he rigged his customers showers so they would die. After serving a 10 year sentence, he got a job at a camp, where he fed a dozen children through a wood chipper. He even sent body parts to the families. Convincing the court he was insane, he was sent to an asylum. He offered to take someone with hm if he helped him escape, but he left him to die as he burnt the place to the ground and killed everyone. He is still at large.
Is he bad enough?
He caused pileups, killed people in their showers, fed 12 kids through a wood chipper, and burnt n entire asylum to the ground, all for fun.
Mitigating factors?
None. He's not even truly insane. He just convinced the jury of that.
