During the investigation of recent hollers in the Complete Monster thread, it's become apparent to the staff that an insular, unfriendly culture has evolved in the Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard threads that is causing problems.
Specific issues include:
- Overzealous hollers on tropers who come into the threads without being familiar with all the rules and traditions of the tropes. And when they are familiar with said rules and traditions, they get accused (with little evidence) of being ban evaders.
- A few tropers in the thread habitually engage in snotty, impolite mini-modding. There are also regular complaints about excessive, offtopic "socializing" posts.
- Many many thread regulars barely post/edit anywhere else, making the threads look like they are divorced from the rest of TV Tropes.
- Following that, there are often complaints about the threads and their regulars violating wiki rules, such as on indexing, crosswicking, example context and example categorization. Some folks are working on resolving the issues, but...
- Often moderator action against thread regulars leads to a lot of participants suddenly showing up in the moderation threads to protest and speak on their behalf, like a clique.
It is not a super high level problem, but it has been going on for years and we cannot ignore it any longer. There will be a thread in Wiki Talk to discuss the problem; in the meantime there is a moratorium on further Complete Monster and Magnificent Bastard example discussion until we have gotten this sorted out.
Update: The new threads have been made and can be found here:
Please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List before suggesting any new entries for this trope.
IMPORTANT: To avoid a holler to the mods, please see here for the earliest date a work can be discussed, (usually two weeks from the US release), as well as who's reserved discussion.
When voting, you must specify the candidate(s). No blanket votes (i.e. " to everyone I missed").
No plagiarism: It's fair to source things, but an effortpost must be your own work and not lifted wholesale from another source.
We don't care what other sites think about a character being a Complete Monster. We judge this trope by our own criteria. Repeatedly attempting to bring up other sites will earn a suspension.
What is the Work
Here you briefly describe the work in question and explain any important setting details. Don't assume that everyone is familiar with the work in question.
Who is the Candidate and What have they Done?
This will be the main portion of the Effort Post. Here you list all of the crimes committed by the candidate. For candidates with longer rap sheets, keep the list to their most important and heinous crimes, we don't need to hear about every time they decide to do something minor or petty.
Do they have any Mitigating Factors or Freudian Excuse?
Here you discuss any potential redeeming or sympathetic features the character has, the character's Freudian Excuse if they have one, as well as any other potential mitigating factors like Offscreen Villainy or questions of moral agency. Try to present these as objectively as possible by presenting any evidence that may support or refute the mitigating factors.
Do they meet the Heinousness Standard?
Here you compare the actions of the Candidate to other character actions in the story in order to determine if they stand out or not. Remember that all characters, not just other villains, contribute to the Heinousness Standard
Final Verdict?
Simply state whether or not you think the character counts or not.

I try to find alternative from the books.
Didn't Ivan Ooze from the film try to use a meteor?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsNot sure it was Ooze. It was, I believe, the most recent Power Rangers EP besides this one.

Those are better quotes.
Any more votes on Black Battler? Wikis are not always accurate, but his page states this:
The last paragraph is particularly notable:
Overall, this wiki entry does not support the idea that he has agency, and his ambiguous origins only muddy the issue further. He even seems to have a few Pet the Dog moments that were overlooked. Overall, according to the wiki page, Black Battler is actually a Tragic Villain, and if the page is accurate, then we will obviously have to cut him. Again, the wiki may not be accurate, so I would appreciate if anyone familiar with Umineko can weigh in. I actually have played both games on Steam, but it has been a little while.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI'll say cut Black Battler. While wikis can have false information, I think we should trust it unless proven otherwise.
Might have been Galva.
As for BB, tell you what- I will look up a video of the story mode between him and Shannon, and come back to tell you if he indeed has Pet the Dog moments. I remember him having some, but I may need to refresh my memory.

One of these days, all of you will accept me as your supreme overlord.I'm not trusting a wiki, nor have I ever done so, but I'll say cut for now.
Personally I say Keep unless someone can go back to the game itself and prove this.
Things are really about to get Fun around hereHere is the video of the Black Battler story mode, if anyone wants to check for themselves. It is only about a half hour. This is where his Pet the Dog and Tragic Villain moments supposedly surface.
And if the video does not work, here is a link.

Feels good, don't it?Sure to the images.
The Joker collage would work, if it could capture some of the carnage and the distraught guy here.
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsI got another Jack the Ripper for us today. Bit of a more interesting case than usual.
What's the setting?
Monster & Madman from Steve Niles (Broken Moon which I've covered twice before on this thread) throws Frankenstein's Monster together with Jack the Ripper. Taking place after the original Frankenstein, the Monster wanders after the death of Victor Frankenstein, lost and alone in the world. After stowing away on a ship that ends with a nasty skirmish with its crew, the Monster hides among the streets of Whitechapel, where he's persecuted by the paranoid locals and ends up in the trust of a grinning mortician named Dr. John Moore. As Moore explains, the good people of Whitechapel have good reason to be afraid. There's a serial killer on the loose, and Moore knows more about that than he lets on...
Who is Dr. Moore? What has he done?
Ex-doctor and friendly mortician nicknamed "Jack" by day, John Moore moonlights as the infamous Jack the Ripper by night. Fascinated by the Monster, Dr. Moore takes in the Monster and demonstrates his admiration and curiosity for the Monster's scars. When the Monster passes by the corpse of an eviscerated, naked woman stretched out in his lab, Dr. Moore cheerfully remarks it's just a corpse in his care as a mortician. Right.
Moore permits the Monster to stay under his roof on the condition of hours of grueling experimentation and examination—should Moore find the secret to his creation, Moore promises he'll create him a companion. Every once in a while, Dr. Moore isn't quite able to stay for the night, instead slipping out for a nightly walk where he seeks the company of prostitutes...and Moore starts returning with the dismembered body parts of numerous women ("I've got connections at the hospital!"). Moore, by the time he finally announces he's found out the secret to the Monster's nature, has gruesomely murdered eleven women across Whitechapel, only five of which are attributed to the Ripper.
Moore finally creates a patchwork woman using the body parts of all the women he's murdered and brings her to life as a new "bride" for the Monster. The instant the patchwork bride comes to life, she starts screaming in a hysterical fury, roaring that Moore "killed us all!" The Monster finally puts two-and-two together, whereupon Moore decides "I suppose I'll be doing two dissections'' tonight." The Monster subdues him, whereupon the miserable bastard pleads for mercy before the bride lops his head off.
Unfortunately for the bride, the way Moore created her leaves her in a horrific state of non-stop torment; reliving the moment Moore killed every woman that made her up while laughing, over and over and over without reprieve. The Monster ends the comic by giving her a gentle Mercy Kill.
Any mitigating factors?
Zip. Any friendship he may have with the Monster dissolves in a literal instant when the Monster decides he's done playing serial killer patsy. Moore's really, really bad for a Jack, with the canonical five bumped up to eleven and the monstrous, horrible Fate Worse than Death he forces onto all of them.
Conclusion?
Keeper.
Moore
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yes to yet another Jack the Ripper.
Edited by Bullman on Nov 25th 2019 at 2:53:51 PM
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadYes to Jack, considering he tries to kill the Monster.
This isn't PART of Broken Moon (or Niles's Monster World), is it?
CM Dates; CM Pending; CM DraftsMoore.
Why so serious?Yes to Moore there.

Draven
That quote fits more under Take Over the World.
As for Madame Odius? No, it was WAY later than that. Relatively recently. I think the installment involved ninjas, and the rejected candidate wanted to destroy the world with an asteroid/meteor?
