Old Complete Monster cleanup thread
Welcome to the new Complete Monster (CM) cleanup thread! This thread is where we clean up or cut already-existing entries.
If you're looking to add new entries, please see the approval thread.
IMPORTANT: Before you begin any discussions on this thread, please see the Frequently Asked Questions and Common Requests List. Here, you'll find explanations of the criteria for the trope as well as our rules/procedures for approving and cutting candidates.
What goes through this thread?
- Cut requests. If you believe a CM has been approved and they do not count, this thread is where you propose their removal. To know how to go about this, please see the FAQ folder on the Administrivia page, where the process is explained in detail.
- If we ever need to consider cutting multiple examples without individually reviewing them (e.g. if we discover widespread plagiarism with a particular troper's CMs), the initial discussion will be on this thread and we'll then escalate to the mod team (as described here) to get a formal consensus if we decide to recommend a mass cut.
- If an entry was put on the wrong subpage/YMMV page, you may propose where they should be moved to.
- Full rewrites of existing entries, including expansions, trims, and ground-up rewrites. If your rewrite is approved by the thread, feel free to add it to the drafts page so that other users can check grammar and the like before it is included with the rest of the weekly swaps.
- If an entry on a work's YMMV page doesn't match the entry on the media subpage, you can bring it here to discuss which entry works better.
What does not go through this thread?
- New candidate proposals - as stated before, those are done on this thread.
- Unapproved wicks - if a Troper encounters either of these kinds of wicks, they can be cut with no approval.
- Any CM link on a non-YMMV page - as a YMMV trope, it should not be linked on those pages regardless of any cleanup effort. The only exception is if the wick is being used within the definition of another trope.
- If an CM link on a YMMV page refers to an unapproved character. If it refers to an approved character on any such page, the wick can stay. On the other hand, if the unapproved character being linked to sounds like they might have promise (and you don't feel like checking it out for yourself), feel free to mention it on the approval thread - someone may already know why they don't count, or it could invite a brand new discussion!
- Proposals for images, quotes, and videos of already-approved CMs - quotes and images are proposed on the approval thread, while videos can be uploaded normally as they are screened for approval by the moderation.
- Crosswicking examples to YMMV pages - if an example has already been approved and added to the main page, you do not require any special permission to add the example to a work's YMMV page (assuming the work has a page already). If a YMMV page doesn't exist yet, then you can make it yourself, but either way, feel free to just add the example without asking.
- Small changes to existing entries - these can simply be done on a Troper's own prerogative with no approval.
- Spelling and grammar fixes.
- Pothole changes.
- Minor rewordings.
- Spoiler tags.
While these changes do not require any kind of approval, it is requested that should you make any of these changes, you do one of the following:
- Make the same changes on the relevant Sandbox page, then add the Sandbox to the list at the bottom of the drafts page. This will add the Sandbox to the weekly swaps and ensure that the edits end up on the relevant locked page. If the Sandbox is already listed, then once you make the edits, your job is already done!
- If you don't know how the Sandboxes work or simply don't have the time to find it, then you can simply post on the thread about the changes you made. Someone else can then make the edit on the relevant Sandbox and add it to the weekly swaps.
- Alternatively, you can simply request that the change be made directly to the locked page on the Locked Pages thread. Members of this thread keep track of that one, so we will ensure that the changes are made in the Sandbox so that it doesn't get deleted during the next swap.
Again, these changes don't require any approval, but we prefer to keep the entries on the YMMV pages and the locked pages the same in order to avoid any miscommunication or errors between entries, so if you do make the change, we would greatly appreciate it if you could ensure the change is made on the locked page as well.
As a final note, we do not care what other sites have to say regarding whether or not a character counts. We have our own criteria and they have theirs for their CM equivalents; while they are similar, they are not exactly the same and should not be treated as such. Another site removing a character from their equivalent should not be a reason why a cut is proposed here, and if this is the case, it will likely lead to mod intervention.

- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: While the two of them did occasionally butt heads early on, modern comics like Dwayne Mc Duffie's Fantastic Four, the Fall of the Hulks storyline, and the Superior Carnage miniseries have shown that Klaw is genuinely grateful for all of the times that his longtime collaborator, the Wizard, has helped and resurrected him, to the point that Klaw went along with the Wizard's harebrained scheme in the aforementioned Superior Carnage simply out of a combination of Undying Loyalty and pity over the Wizard's deteriorating mind and obsessive desire to impress his estranged son, Bentley-23. Notably, when Doctor Karl Malus tried to talk him into turning on the Wizard after realizing just how insane the Wizard truly was, Klaw punched Malus out while telling him, "I am his [the Wizard's] family."
It seems like this idea that Klaw is genuinely loyal to the Wizard has been brought up a couple of times, so it may not be a fluke.

Hmm, if accurate, this may be a case like Apocalypse, where a disqualifier becomes enough of a character that we can't just use Depending on the Writer.

I've checked on that. This is a rpetty clear case of Depending on the Writer as it's wholly absent with others. Klaw has treated him with zero regard multiple times

Yeah. Umh for black panther comics in particular where Klaw you know does anything heinous (fantastic four which this lists has h in a super generic bad guy and even that's not really a common thing their) He and wizard don't really get along.
Saying they have some friendship is a stretch.

Also umh guys I know we approved Tala from Darkwatch but she got removed. Her character page lists uh some off stuff that the person who deleted it mentioned.
- Alas, Poor Villain: Her last words in the good ending seem intended to evoke this response.
Tala: I would've… loved you.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Shunned by her tribe for her special powers, her family murdered and she is implied to have served as a Sex Slave by the people who left orphaned.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: See Alas, Poor Villain above.
- Freudian Excuse: As revealed in the tie-in comic prequel, she was abused by the traders who killed her father.

Klaw weirdly bounces around from henchman to mastermind. His more grandiose goals as Mastermind never really factor Wizard into account so I'm gonna say leave it.

To clarify. The wizArd stuff (which is a sometimes as hain their a lot of comics where the two don't like each other) comes from when hes just a generic henchman which is in fantastic four. Comics where he actually does you know actually evil shit in his entry are from Black panther where he's a Big Bad. Which tbh hey that's perfect considering Thats where his entry is from anyway.

Hey, popping in — sorry to ask again, didn't get a response before.
I wanted to note that on YMMV.Star Fox 2 specifically, the Complete Monster entry as written is a Zero-Context Example. Is there a way to expand it at all? I know there's an expanded entry on the regular CM page—perhaps that entry could be imported over?

About Sohei Dojima, I mention this in the EP. If you talk to an NPC in front of the headquarters after Dojima kidnaps Yumi, she mentions how Dojima regularly drags drunk girls to his office and has sex with them.
At best, he's taking advantage of their inebriated state for sex. At worst, he's kidnapping them. But it's rape either way.
Master of the Multiverse (He/Him/His)
Masamune Dan was supposed to be depicted as a monster with zero good qualities (using Kamen Rider Chronicle to infect the populace with the Bugster Virus and rule over the world since he's the game master), but the Another Ending tie-in movie trilogy reveals that he loved his wife Sakurako and is completely angered at her loss.
Given that a Complete Monster cannot feel love but for themselves, this calls for a cut from the locked page.
@Lighty Snake: The tie-in prequel comic shows that she was abused by the fur traders who killed her father, and the actual game plays her death for sympathy ("I would've...loved you..."), something a CM can never get. Her actual goal of remaking the world isn't one done in her own image, but rather that of her family's, making her a minor Tragic Villain. Unlike Lazarus, who wants death and destruction For the Evulz, Tala wants to remake the world to avenge her dead family, whom she still cares for. Caring for a family is something a CM would never do, so I second the cut.

I think we can pull the parts of the larger entry that are specifically from the second game to add it to that page - that should give it enough context, but I don’t know the game enough to do it myself
