Note: This thread was proposed by kundoo.

Quick Draw Decision has only 19 wicks (or 10 non-Administrivia wicks) since 2011. I can't pinpoint the problem with it; the description seems fine, and the trope (a character is given a supposedly hard moral choice, but instead of agonizing over it makes the decision instantly) does look like it's a thing. Possibly a rename will help.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.

Paging ~kundoo to the thread. Anyway, I'd be fine with renaming. We could add it to Pages Needing Wicks and Tropes Needing Examples if we do that.

The name seems like the culprit: Not having heard of this trope before, it instantly made me think of a Wild West shootout, which is under Showdown at High Noon and Quick Draw. I dunno if it's confused anyone else, though I'm not sure what to rename it too. Quick Choice? Quick Decision To Make?

I agree; that name sounds like it's about quick-drawing as in a duel. Another few name ideas: Subverted Moral Dilemma? Comically Fast Decision?

I've also thought it would be a wild west trope, but it turnes out to be something alike Comically Little Hesitation (No Hesitation Gag).

Quick Decision To Make sounds the best out of the suggestions (and I'm surprised we don't already have a trope with that name), but the others could probably be redirects.

I think the name should better showcase that the character is faced with a difficult moral dilemma more, otherwise we could get examples of anyone making a quick decision for any problem.

Something like Tough Problem Quick Decision? Not Agonizing Over Moral Quandry? Moral Quandry Made Easy?

And yeah, omit the Rule of Funny part. Examples that are Played for Laughs can just be listed as such.

I was basing on it being at Comedy Tropes, but if being funny isn't required then maybe Unexpectedly Fast Decision.

Does the trope require an in-universe acknowledgement of both "difficult" and "quick"? Because fictional characters making immediate life-and-death decisions is normal.

If it's listed on Comedy Tropes, we can remove it if being Played for Laughs isn't required.

...But now that you mention it, maybe it is Chairs.

Double posting because I looked at the on-page example list and now I think Amonimus is right in wondering if this might be Chairs, considering all the entries that don't amount to much other than "character has to make a decision".

[up]oh well if none of the examples actually describe a character being faced with a complex moral/ethical decision and making a quick decision anyways, then I'd be ok with cutting the trope and yarding the idea

How these on-page examples sound like to me.

  • A character does something bold in a dangerous situation without hesitation.
  • ZCE
  • A character picks something before hearing (the rest of) the question.

There aren't many examples anyway, so I wonder, if there are tropeworthy concepts, the page would need to be made from scratch anyway.

Yeah, if there's anything to salvage here, we should Yard it and cut this because the execution here was poor.

Is the trope name really the cause of the poor performance or is it just a rare trope?
