That is why I don't get why he is being nominated at a bunch of award shows. Like there is nothing good in the performance.

Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadI also find him terribly overrated ([+ insert anecdotes about his method acting here]), but the industry likes him.
House of Gucci was in general a fairly terrible film, I thought. Awkward to see it out and about in awards.
"All you Fascists bound to lose."I thought Jared Leto nailed his part as an absolute dipshit.
Ceterum censeo Morbillivirum esse eradicandum.Jared Leto watched Tropic Thunder and thought it was a guide to be the best actor possible.
Oh no, I hope that doesn't mean Leto might try to take on an African-American role..

I hope Don't Look Up does not win Best Picture.

It's been 3000 years…Huh, Leto didn't get a supporting actor nod? But they made him fat.
Found a Youtube Channel with political stances you want to share? Hop on over to this page and add them.Wasn't expecting Drive My Car to be up there
Also, Lunana was submitted previously but was rejected... second times the charm I guess

Seems largely what the media experts had been saying, yeah. I think some of those names (Javier Bardem, Judi Dench and Raya and the Last Dragon) got some “textbook industry votes” over much cooler performances, but that’s every year.

So many snubs but Balfe is the most inexplicable. Was one of the most nominated performances this season.
Don't Look Up being nominated for Best Editing is the biggest joke from the Academy so far.
I made a thread for general award season discussion.
Yes! Garfield got the nom.
No! Denis Villeneuve got snubbed in Director. Plus, how did Don't Look Up get both a Pcture and Editing nomination?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIt probably connected with a lot of viewers
Were you expecting Drive My Car to get so many noms?

It might sound weird but I kinda hope Dune doesn’t win best picture? Films that get this title tend to disappear from the collective memory.
- Casablanca?
- The Godfather (1 and 2)?
- Rocky?
- Forrest Gump?
- No Country for Old Men?
- Return of the King?
- All About Eve?
- Lawrence of Arabia?
- Schindlers List?
- Cuckoos Nest?
- Titanic?
All of these won Best Picture and are still fondly remembered today

Forgot to list Best Visual Effects:
- Dune
- Free Guy
- No Time to Die
- Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings
- Spider-Man: No Way Home
Agreed, "Don't Look Up" for BP feels...wildly undeserved. I'm also surprised by Bardem; I think Kidman overcame the miscast accusations but he didn't.
I think I'm still hung up on the Supporting Actress ballot. I adore Jessie Buckley and am pleasantly surprised she was nominated. So I might have preferred to drop Dunst/Dench for Balfe/Negga.
Glad that Dune has so many nominations. It's a great movie.
So I read in this Variety article that there is going to be a host this year. Who it will be has not been announced but I thought that we were done with Hosts after the whole Kevin Hart incident?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadFor the guy worried about Dune winning Best Picture and being forgotten, remember that Dune is part of a franchise with a large amount of fans and has made a decent chunk of money. Lots of Oscar winners tend to be smaller movies that haven't really made lots of money. Hell, one of the reasons the viewership of the Oscars is declining is that a lot of movies they nominate aren't really popular or well-known by the masses. The 2020 Oscars got lucky with Parasite and Joker making tons of money.
Hence that bizarre pitch last month that Spider-Man: No Way Home should be considered for more Oscars (??).
I think Dune has the Sci Fi Ghetto to climb out of before it wins BP as well. As was much-cited when The Shape of Water won, The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King was the only fantasy film to have won it.

I can excuse Lady Gaga's weird accent because otherwise she kills that part. The same can't be said for the role that's more clownish than that time where Jared Leto was actually a clown.
It's been 3000 years…
