Inanimate Objects and Locations in Character Pages

This is the first time I've heard TLP handled namespaces. I'm not sure if we really need Locations/.

Hey FYI there's an issue regarding objects over at the MCU Characters Thread

I brought up the Pokémon type pages on another thread and a few people agreed that we should cut them, but not enough to reach a consensus.

How about World of Warships and its sister titles World of Warplanes and World of Tanks? There are tons of character pages for each of the different nation's vehicles.

Doctor Who – Doctors has Signet ring, Sonic screwdriver, Psychic paper, Sonic sunglasses. I feel that's improper.

Yeah, I'd move those to the main page if they aren't covered already.

Also, I really think we should forbid inanimate things from being listed on character pages as a rule (I never posted on thread before).

I'll second that. And just so nobody asks, Animate Inanimate Objects should obviously be exempt.

What about examples of Setting as a Character?

Just because the narrative and other characters treats the inanimate setting like a character doesn't mean that we should give it a section in a character page. I think it would be misuse to attribute character tropes to things like that. We can just have tropes for the setting be listed on the main work page.

For example, Characters.Celeste has a folder for the titular mountain. While it has a lot of weird properties, it should be moved to the work page imho.

If a work has something like Genius Loci that is effectively a person, it could however stay.

Seems reasonable, but I think there's a lot of potential for ambiguity for the cutoff between the two (Setting as a Character and Genius Loci).

Well, I don't think it's that hard of a line to draw. settings that fall under Setting as a Character have no actual personalities of their own. You can't attribute character tropes to them. Any personality traits assigned to them just come from personification.

I'm open to the idea that Setting as a Character examples could qualify for character pages, but Characters.Celeste is still a problem because the only characterization trope was SAAC. "Tropes that happen to X" is a common problem with character pages, and doing the same thing with non-person entries is just an extreme form of it.

Characters.Splatoon Weapons was recently created. These weapons are not implied to be sentient or sapient in any way. Should it be cut?

I agree. These don't look good enough for character page material.

Misuse of namespace and looks stubby as well, if any tropes can, should be moved to main.

I swear they were originally on the main characters page. Similarly, most of Characters.Monster Hunter Hunters consists of weapon classes.

Characters.Walking With Dinosaurs lists the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs as a character, and Characters.Walking With Monsters does the same with the Earth and a protoplanet. Easy cuts, right?

If they are not actually treated as characters by the narrative, then yes.

What is Characters.Spider Man PS 4 Suits?

I'm going to be honest with you. I've always been confused by that page. And was curious why thus stuff wasn't just on the main page?

I guess it's like tropes for MCU Iron Man's armor being listed on his character page? Could it be folded into Characters.Spider Man PS 4 Peter Parker and Characters.Spider Man PS 4 Heroes (for Miles Morales' suits)?

I think that would be ideal, unless the page was split due to byte count limitations.
