Character-Specific Pages (CSPs) are created when individual characters have so many trope examples that they can't reasonably be included on a shared page.
The Administrivia Character-Specific Pages policy details the rules that apply to these pages. All Character-Specific Pages must also follow the basic How to Create a Character Page policy, as well as the wiki's more general policies about spoilers and examples.
This cleanup thread handles the following tasks:
- Reviewing and approving new CSP proposals. All new potential CSPs must be reviewed and, if necessary, cleaned up before they're created.
- Agreeing on page names for new CSPs.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a new CSP is created.
- Reviewing existing CSPs if there's a concern that they need cleanup, or if it's believed that the character may no longer qualify for a page.
- Merging existing CSPs into other character pages when necessary.
- Ensuring that wicks are updated when a CSP is removed/merged.
- Creating, updating and cutting redirects, as necessary, to reflect these splits and merges.
Crowners are not normally required but, where appropriate, can be used to formalise decisions on any of these points.
If a character no longer qualifies for a CSP, it's often more practical to turn the CSP into a redirect than to cut the page entirely. This keeps the page history visible to users, and also helps to steer offsite 'inbound' traffic (search engine results) to the right place. With that in mind, cut requests for CSPs may be declined and referred to this thread if they don't have a clear consensus.
Comments linking back to this thread can be added to CSPs when needed - e.g. to confirm their creation was approved, to warn tropers that a cleanup is in progress, or to note the date and outcome of a more recent review.
We also have some more general threads for character page help -
- Character Page Cleanup: for trope misuse, zero-context examples, spoiler tagging issues etc.
- Are these character tropes?: for queries about whether particular tropes belong on a character page or on the work's page.
This is not a policy discussion thread, it's a cleanup thread — any requests for policy changes need to be raised in Wiki Talk.
Mod update 07 Mar 2024, reflecting new CSP policy, updated again 22 Mar 2024 to mention redirects for removed CSPs
- Other options must have been tried first, like splitting pages into further groups.
- The character's folder is cleaned up beforehand, fixing any Zero-Context Examples and Wall of Text entries and removing any outdated, misused, or non-character tropes.
- A character's folder is at least 6,000 words/40,000 characters (with spaces). Here is a byte counter.note
- The current character page bypasses technical limitations and requires a split up.
- A single character takes up the majority of a page or is disproportionately bigger than other folders.
Splitting a character into their own page is a major change and needs to be run by the community before it is enacted. Even if you believe a character meets these requirements, they should be run through this thread first. Having other tropers take a look can help spot issues you may not notice or believe to be issues.
Per How to Create a Character Page, character-specific pages should only include tropes that describe the character. These tropes should fall under Characterization Tropes or one of its related indexes, unless they're recurring character traits (distinctive things that the character does repeatedly). If you're unsure what counts as a character trope, you can ask the Are these Character Tropes? thread.
If you have concerns with a general character page, they have their own separate cleanup thread, as do the self-demonstrating character pages.

I decided to create a sandbox for Godot from Ace Attorney that collectively covers both him and Diego Armando. The byte count currently stands at 43,246. Any thoughts?
Edit: I decided to do some digging, and also came up with these sandboxes, if you're interested in reviewing them.
- Manfred von Karma: 48,411 bytes
- Ga'ran Sigatar Khura'in: 41,831 bytes
- Barok van Zieks: 49,258 bytes

Orcus on His Throne will always be my pet peeve.Hey - the page that Godot currently inhabits is 118k bytes with him included. Removing him drops that to approximately 75k bytes. With or without him, the page is not currently in danger of becoming overly-long any time soon, so there’s no reason from a technical standpoint to move him just yet.
The first two characters in your edited point are in the same situation, so no move is required. Barok’s current page is much bigger at 260k bytes, and as the overly-long page warning triggers between 300-500k bytes, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on his current page and splitting it, should the warning trigger

So me and Indirect Active Transport have been developing a potential CSP for Donna Troy. Whilst it has reached the byte limit, I'm worried that it doesn't warrant removing the Donna Troy section from the Wonder Girl page
Teen Titans: Original Teen Titans | Batgirl Bette Kane | Teen TitansHey - thanks for checking. The page in which she sits is a scant 49k bytes in total, so there is no reason to remove her from a technical standpoint and add another redirect to this index.

Currently, Mega Man X and Mega Man Zero character pages are a bit of a mess. Main characters of the former series, Mega Man X: X and Mega Man X: Zero, have their own pages, while their Zero series selves had their own folders in Characters.Mega Man Zero Protagonists and Characters.Mega Man Zero Allies respectively.
However, someone recently moved the contents of these folders to their actual character pages, in "22XX" folders. X's folder was blanked save for a redirect, while Zero's was left intact, creating a duplicate folder.
Now, I believe these characters really should have all info on a single page, but it creates a problem, where, if Zero's Zero series folder was to be replaced with a redirect, it would leave Characters.Mega Man Zero Protagonists page with only Ciel's folder, which is merely 17k bytes long. I propose moving Ciel's folder to Characters.Mega Man Zero Allies and cutting the "Protagonists" page entirely. Thoughts?
That seems like a good idea!
"Stand Proud, Sukuna, you are strong" | He/HimApparently Charlie got her own page created, despite I'm pretty sure Characters.Hazbin Hotel The Hazbin Hotel not being too big yet.
You guys fine with this?
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectGow big is she and how big is the OG page?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadMain page is 164K bytes, Charlie is 56K.
It's on the border of splitting, but if so, then it'd be better to split off a category rather than a character. Like, make a page for the Hotel Staff.

CSP Cleanup Thread | All that I ask for ... is diamonds and dance floorsI agree that
Characters.Hazbin Hotel The Hazbin Hotel Staff should have been made first
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectWas there ever any consensus on Donkey Kong - King K. Rool?
Yes, guidelines note that splitting a character page into smaller sections must be considered first
His page is only 37k bytes and in any case, the Villains page is very small at 29k bytes, so King K should be merged back here (or into whatever main index is most relevant to his character).

Since the page isn't quite big enough, I'll merge Charlie's page back into the titular Hotel's page
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectAnyone good if I just make the Characters.Hazbin Hotel The Hazbin Hotel Staff subpage?
The "too long" suggestion hasn't appeared yet, but I also don't want the page to load slow and more examples are probably on their way
So...
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectGo Ahead.
"Stand Proud, Sukuna, you are strong" | He/HimRE: lexii
Earlier I proposed we merge K. Rool back into the Donkey Kong: Kremling Krew page.
good plan
sounds good too! :)
Bumping this question (from another troper)
She/Her | Currently cleaning Char CloneThank you. This page is quite large at 213k bytes with the character included. Other splitting options should be tried first according to policy, so do you see a way to split this page into smaller sections (I can see that there are numbers e.g. 3,4 listed against each character, so a simple numeric split could work — e.g. characters 3,4 to 73,74 is Tachi part one and characters 75 to 220 is Tachi part two). That should be our first try.

Speaking of Hazbin Hotel, Adam's folder is now 41,005 bytes
REALITY IS AN ILLUSION, THE UNIVERSE IS A HOLOGRAM, BUY GOLD BYEEEE! | She/HerOkay can we decide what to do with the Doctor Who stuff?
Fan-Preferred Couple cleanup threadIs the base character page big enough to split?
If so, I think The Exorcists or maybe Heaven in general should be given their own page first before giving Adam his own.
And it seems the page isn't even that long yet
Edited by AudioSpeaks2 on Feb 3rd 2024 at 5:41:30 PM
Art Museum Curator and frequent helper of the Web Original deprecation projectHey - total byte count of the page is 113k, so not overly-long just yet. Suggest the page inflates further before any split occurs, and other options (as per guidelines) should be tried first.
Hey Bullman - Doctors 14 and 15 are well under the byte count, and as I think either you or another troper mentioned, we shouldn't make exceptions just because of the show. Suggest these two are merged into their own index until they naturally inflate (I don't know this show that well beyond the 70s era, so could these two be named under a "new era Doctors" heading, perhaps?) EDIT — and oh my goodness, there is a ton of 'Averted Trope' guff on these pages, which as per the guidelines, shouldn't feature on a work page unless in exceptional circumstances (aversions of near-universal tropes). I've cleared this up.
Agreed.

Oh on the topic of Hazbin Hotel, Vaggie's folder is almost full of spoiler entries (one of which pretty much giving the secret away) given recent reveals. Would it be a good idea to maybe unmark the spoilers in her folder and make sure (Spoilers Unmarked) is in her header?
https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Characters/ToukenRanbuTachi
Hello. I wanted to check in to see if I could create a character specific page for the character Mikazuki Munechika from Touken Ranbu. Touken Ranbu has a lot of mixed media works that he appears in that tells a different story every time and changes his characterization somewhat, hence why the folder is split into different sections for almost every version of him.
After adding tropes for him, attempting to do clean ups, and attempting to expand on the other character sections on the same page, his character section is still disproportionately long and exceeds the byte count at around 70k. I can attempt to do more clean up, but I still believe his page would be long, especially since I’m not done adding tropes for his second movie portrayal and the stage portrayal.
