Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianWarner Bros. is considering ideas to create some international original series based on the DC Comics IP for the first time, according to Deadline. This would be a part of a large incentive to bring HBO Max on an international scale.
“We’re also going to work to see DC content in other countries outside of the U.S,” he said at the virtual Web Summit conference.
HBO has been producing original series in Europe, Latin America and Asia for a number of years with series including Czech crime drama Wasteland, Polish conspiracy drama The Pact. Taiwanese supernatural thriller The Teenage Psychic and raunchy Brazilian mystery La Vida Secreta de las Parejas.
“One of the things that we’re going to do with Max is that all of our international productions will eventually live on Max and we’re going to do a much better job of coordinating between all of the folks programmings in Europe, Latin America and Asia so if there’s anything that we’re developing that has real cross-border appeal, we’ll be able to highlight that,” he said.
Furthermore, Naomi is set to make her live-action debut on The CW, directed by Ava DuVernay (who's also directing the upcoming New Gods film). She'll be joined by Jill Blankenship, an Arrow writer alumnus, who will serve as an executive producer and writer.
It is based on the eponymous comic book series that debuted in 2019, co-written by Brian Michael Bendis and David F. Walker, and illustrated by breakout artist Jamal Campbell. It will be produced by DuVernay’s Array Filmworks in association with Warner Bros Television. Sarah Bremner and Paul Garnes will produce for Array Filmworks.

Alright so I guess Bendis can say he has one success story at DC.
"I am Alpharius. This is a lie."Just in case you see this news anywhere:
No, Peacemaker isn't expected to have an airing run on The CW. This was unconfirmed by James Gunn himself.
The Sandman TV show has revealed some of the casting, and looks very promising. Charles Dance is always good value as a baddie, Gwendolyn Christie could be inspired casting as Lucifer too.
Not really heard much about Tom Sturridge, our new Dream of the Endless but looks the part.
"These 'no-nonsense' solutions of yours just don't hold water in a complex world of jet-powered apes and time travel."Reminded me of The Wicked + The Divine's Lucifer in that respect, especially with the slicked back blonde hair + snazzy outfit look they used to announce the casting.
According to Deadline, J.J. Abrams (wait, come back!) is producing a "darker reboot" John Constantine series for HBO Max.
Deadline understands that Abrams’ production company Bad Robot is working with the Warner Media streamer on the reboot, which will see the character as a young Londoner. We hear that Bolton has written the pilot script with plans to open a writers room in March.
The character is set to be cast as a diverse lead, a departure from the one played by Matt Ryan in the NBC series, which aired for one season between 2014-15. That series was developed by David Goyer and Daniel Cerone and similarly based on the DC Comics character John Constantine, a British exorcist and occult detective who hunts the supernatural.
It is the latest project Bad Robot has at HBO Max; last April, the streamer revealed that it had greenlit Overlook, inspired by Stephen King’s The Shining; Duster; and a DC Justice League Dark show.
Bolton is a fledgling writer out of the UK. He previously wrote two books, The Pictures, which has been sold to Hell or High Water and Outlaw King director David Mackenzie and his production company Sigma Films for a feature adaptation, and The Syndicate. He is also working on The Croupier, an original pilot script that is in development with Gentleman Jack producer Lookout Point and Sky.
I forgot Pennyworth was a thing.
More Constantine is always good.
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Matt Ryan IS Constantine for me, can't imagine anybody else at this point.

A link to the old discussion thread, for those curious.
Ava DuVernay's adaptation of Naomi has found its lead actress: Kaci Walfall (Person of Interest, Power, Army Wives, The Lion King on Broadway). Deadline further elaborates on the additional series regulars joining her:
- Walfall’s Naomi is an effortlessly cool and confident high school student who is the adopted daughter of doting parents. Popular with all the kids in her military town, Naomi is unafraid to embrace her AP-student, comic book–loving nerdiness. After a supernatural event leads to the discovery of her powers within, Naomi pursues her hidden destiny.
- Alexander Wraithnote will play Dee, the owner of a local tattoo parlor. When a strange event leaves the town in chaos, Dee hints that he knows more than he is willing to tell.
- Cranston Johnsonnote portrays Zumbado, the mysterious owner of a local used car lot. Having heard troubling rumors about his past, Naomi actively tries to avoid him, but a tense encounter leaves her both shaken and curious.
- Camila Moreno is Lourdes, a young woman with a sarcastic sense of humor who works in a vintage collectibles shop. She has an unrequited crush on Naomi, and she shares her obsession with classic comics. She is also happy to join in on Naomi’s schemes.

Wonder what the "supernatural event" is. In the comics, it all started with Superman passing by while on a random cross country Mongul punching distraction in the middle of the whole Leviathan thing.
Wake me up at your own risk.Huh they could crossover with Superman, have him guest star for an episode.

So.
Black Canary's Redemption Arc versus Killer Frost's.
Who's was better?
Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Neither was especially good.
With the exception of the Kevin Smith episode's take on the character, which was really good but went largely ignored, they didn't really have a concept for Killer Frost beyond "evil ice lady." It took them until the following season to actually decide she had a personality, and by that point I wouldn't even call it a redemption. It's more that Frost goes from "Ax-Crazy ragemonster in Caitlin's body" to "misunderstood street smart Anti-Hero" pretty much offscreen, and they don't really give her an arc of redemption as much as she just becomes the team Bad Butt.
Meanwhile, Canary suffered from being Laurel's Replacement Goldfish. There was always a sense that she was becoming good because she was expected to become good, because we needed a Black Canary. The beginnings of the arc, especially, were difficult to buy, because it involved levels of trust and reciprocation of that trust that were hard to sell with the characters as they were.

After 138 days, Peacemaker has finished filming its initial batch of eight episodes.
The teaser trailer for Y: The Last Man is out. Expect it to arrive on September 13:
A "Penguin" spin-off prequel series is currently in development for HBO Max.
It’s described as a “Scarface-like” series about the rise of the Penguin character. [...] It’s not clear whether Farrell would star in the series.
I mean, Gotham for large parts already was a Penguin-show
Certified: 48.0% West Asian, 6.5% South Asian, 15.8% North/West European, 15.7% English, 7.4% Balkan, 6.6% ScandinavianNormally I would think of this as an unnecessary spin-off that probably exists just to give us more Penguin Riddler shipping, and after Krypton and Pennyworth and Gotham the focusing on lesser characters is turning into a trend. but if they actually intend this to be a Scarface-like story about a villain then it sounds more unique than any other superhero show out at the moment.
Because the last couple of villain stories (Cruella, Joker) have been somewhat disappointing. And Penguin has his finger in a lot of Gotham pies, so that idea could lead to some interesting Evil Versus Evil conflicts.
Comes at a weird time thougj because yeah 1/3 of Gotham focused on Penguin.

Akira Toriyama (April 5 1955 - March 1, 2024).Here's a new look at Peacemaker from DC Fandome:
DC Entertainment and Warner Bros. have been announcing a bunch of TV projects and plans that seem less centralized compared to the previous decade. Few are heading to the CW, but they aren't inherently labeled as Arrowverse series. HBO Max is expected to handle some of the load, including some regional-exclusive content. Finally, some outliers like Epix's Pennyworth.
Much like how there's a general thread for DC Movies, here's a general thread for their TV show counterparts.
