Note: The thread currently has a limit of one post every two hours for non-mod users. Currently, this is hard-coded by the admins, but there are plans to give mods the ability to toggle it without admin intervention. After mods are given the ability to do that, the time limit may be further reduced or removed entirely.
This thread is for discussing the following topics:
- Questions and clarifications about the site's rules and policies pertaining to wiki editing, forum posting, trope launching, and so on.
- If you have an idea for a thread on another part of the forums but aren't sure if creating it would be allowed, feel free to ask here.
This thread is not for any of the following:
- Reporting complaints or concerns about specific moderation decisions (e.g. suspensions and thumps). Report these directly to the admins via the contact form
. Selecting "The Staff" sends your message to the admins only, without making it visible to moderators.
- Queries about thumps applied to your own forum posts (reply to the relevant moderator via PM).
- Ban appeals (use the "Edit Banned" thread in this forum).
- Reporting problems or requesting moderator action in the wiki or forums (use Ask The Tropers or Hollersnote or specialized threads such as "Locked Pages").
- Queries about locked On-Topic Conversations (OTC) threads or banned discussion topics. OTC has its own moderation discussion thread here, and the latest statement on the locked US Politics thread and other banned OTC topics is here. Bluntly, when certain OTC threads and topics have repeatedly caused problems, we're not going to provide forum space to discuss them again until the moderation toolkit is equipped to handle those conversations.
- Cut List challenges and queries (they have their own thread here).
- Requests for changes to the site's code or discussion about such changes', as mods cannot change the code; only the admins can do that. Please direct tech requests to Query Bugs or Query Wishlist, and take other tech-related discussion to the Changelog thread.
- Crowner actions. Please use the holler function instead.
- Discussion about changing or implementing policies. Please use Wiki Talk for that. (Asking whether it's OK to make a specific thread is acceptable; using this thread in place of such a thread is not.)
- Asking about the whereabouts of inactive mods (or other inactive users) before they return, if they return at all. Use the Absent people thread for discussing inactive users.
Posts that use this thread in place of the sections listed in the bulleted list above are off-topic.
We're aware that the Edit Banned thread has a Non-Indicative Name, due to it also covering non-editing suspensions. We're not sure whether the name for that thread can even be edited without breaking the special coding that keeps posting restricted to mods and suspended users, so we're leaving it alone for now, because better safe than sorry.

Could a mod temporarily restore Characters.Fans? There was one trope with context that I wanted to move to Webcomic.Fans, but after I brought it up on the character page cleanup thread it was cut the next thing I knew.

No, we don't want any more stickied threads in Wiki Talk. There is such a thing as having too many of them and making this one more visible isn't so important as to justify growing the size of the wall of stickies in Wiki Talk. That this forum has so many of them is because it was never meant to be a general questions forum, and we've requested some administrative action to enforce that.

Hello, a few months ago I was suspended from Yack Fest on the TV Tropes forums, and told that on this date I could make an appeal. I got suspended because I let my emotions get the best of me in an emotionally-charged situation, and after I had the opportunity to cool off (due to being edit banned) I realized how badly I had been behaving. The moderators involved gave me (and a few others who were also suspended) some advice on why we were suspended and how to avoid it in the future, and I've taken it to heart. I will not act that way again.

I would also like to appeal my ban. My emotional charge led me to act in an incredibly hostile way toward the assailant, but it was compounded by the fact that they pretended to be a victim of a thankfully absent predator that I had been a victim of and that they called me an ableist slur. Their toxic behavior had continued for months without any of us knowing, and I was merely angry because I felt like I had to be the voice of anger toward them because I felt the rest of them were not angry enough.
I recognize that this mindset was toxic and caused more problems than it solved, including the lockage of the Trash Heap. I understand that many people miss it, and I recognize that I was one of the people who actually wanted to keep it open. I have been a productive member of this wiki in the wake of the locking, and I recognize that my behavior was with malintent. I promise, however, that I will not be toxic again. I do not want to have the Hangout Thread sealed in concrete like the previous two general threads were.
I do not know what else I could say except "I'm sorry," but even then I know that it may not cut it.

I came here for the same reason, and Septimus Heap said, and I quote:
"Note that currently these subforum bans cannot be appealed through this thread; you'll need to go to this one [Link to this thread]. Remember, the Yack Fest ban cannot be appealed before April 19 and the Forum Games ban not before 19 July."
So if we have learned our lessons, may be please be appealed?

Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Yes, both Lu 127 and Septimus Heap made it clear that this thread is the proper place to appeal for a forums suspension.
Presumably because, as Whistle said, we haven't been completely suspended from editing, and so we aren't able to post in the "Edit banned/suspended" thread.
I'm sorry if I'm ignorant about that, I was just theorizing about why I couldn't add a post on that thread. As Wingedcatgirl said, it must be a technical issue.

You don't have to be edit suspended to go to Edit Banned. You just have to be suspended from any part of the site.
I'm not disputing that this is the place to have the appeal process; I just think you're misunderstanding what sort of bans can be appealed in Edit Banned. Unless the bans were never officially implemented and more of a "just stay away" sort of deal, a suspension from Forum Games or Yack Fest should still allow you to post in EB.

If you can't post on the EB thread then chances are you weren't properly banned. I didn't think mods could ban you from a single thread as opposed to a section of the fora. But if you're banned from Yack Fest or Forum Games the post link should work? Weird.

We could pin a locked thread with a link to the real one, I suppose. Part of the purpose of moving it to FAQ is to put all of these "general business" topics in one place.
