General V-Tuber thread

My ears can surprisingly handle earrape-y stuff, so I can tell how loud Lady Zombina is.

Hello! I've been lurking on this thread for a few pages, but now I'm finally posting to tell how I fell into the rabbit hole.

I first heard the term "virtual youtuber" when I started seeing fanart of them popping up online. But I didn't really understand what a v-tuber was until someone posted a clip of Korone streaming Fall Guys in the Discord server of a conventional streamer I follow. A short time later, I discovered that Hololive has an English branch now, and I watched the archived debut streams of each of them, subscribing to all of them right after.

It's been fun. Out of the English branch, Ina's the one I've watched live the most, mainly because her streaming schedule is the most convenient for me in the Eastern US time zone. I've discovered a few games I otherwise wouldn't know about through them. Seeing Ina's Hades stream led to me eventually getting it myself, and seeing various V-tubers playing Clubhouse Games: 51 Worldwide Classics led to me getting that too, despite me having previously thought of it as Shovelware.

And finally, congratulations to Pekora on reaching 1 million subscribers!

Speaking of which, I've never even heard anything about it until Sept. this year, which was when the HoloEN branch first started up. It's sudden popularity caused one of Gawr Gura's videos to wind up on my recommended feed one day, and I've been hooked ever since. That's how I fell down it - blame YouTube's recommended video feature, not me!

Also, as for which out of the English branch I've followed the most, it has to be Gura - She pretty much introduced me to V Tubers in general, so why wouldn't I like her?

i have watched both of Amelia Watson's videos on L.A. Noire, though it was the Among Us collab highlights that brought me into the rabbit hole

Aah, I was waiting for Pekora to reach 1M.

According to her, she's going to inform her parents that she's a Vtuber once she hits that milestone, so I can't wait to hear about their reaction.

Ok, I just got a taste of Ollie the Zombie, and I can indeed diagnose them with No Indoor Voice. I can pretty much No-Sell earrape, but her volume was louder than I thought! Cute, but Cacophonic indeed, folks, for she managed to override my No-Sell!

I saw clips of Ollie's debut stream. While she was painfully loud at times, but her high energy is infectious. After watching the clips of her, I spent the rest of the afternoon feeling like I'd just drank a Klatchian Coffee. She's set the bar high for the rest of her generation.

Second episode of HoloTalk is airing. Guest today is Fubuki.

Apparently Fubuki is such a workaholic that her manager had to force her take a vacation.

The second Gen 2 Hololive ID member had her debut today. Apparently Anya was ten minutes late to her own stream.

Impressions of the Holo ID gen 2 debuts:

Ollie is all-around impressive! Well, not the singing. But otherwise! Great design with one of the best rigs in Hololive! Funny! Very good English! Reminds me of Kiara in a lot of ways, but Ollie doesn't annoy me the way Kiara does

Anya is... generally sort of underwhelming? English is mostly okay, but weirdly informal. Her design is good on paper, but pretty much a laundry list of things that don't work well for vtubers. And I find the giant breasts fairly off-putting. She has a fancy stereo mic that's not really designed for just talking to a camera. Shitty internet connection that dropped to around 0.2 FPS during her model showoff. Only one to not voice-act her intro, which could really have used it. And I just didn't find her very engaging?

Reine is fine. I find her design is a bit worse than Anya's, but it translated to a Live2D model much better. Good singer. Reasonably funny. Very erratic about what she translated and into how many languages. Not really an ara ara nee-san, just a normal person personality-wise. I like the anime OP intro in theory, but they didn't have much to work with for the imagery. Only one to not make a big deal about other Hololive members

So, mostly pretty good, and I can see Ollie being Hololive's next big success. And, IDK, my opinions on Anya might not be common

I dunno, I feel like Ollie would get grating in large doses.

And I dunno what "weirdly informal" is supposed to mean.

The screaming could be fairly off-putting if she does it all the time. I love Ollie but god that kind of thing would make me close the stream pretty quickly.

Anya's cute. She likes Fubuki a lot so you can tell she has excellent taste. Haven't yet looked into Reine, nothing about her was grabbing me from the previews.

I'm liking all three ID girls, tho Ollie has extreme meme energy and that shit is my jam

That said reine fuckin opened introduced her stream with an original song and that's fucking dope

Something's bugging me. Do the EN and ID girls put their family names first and then their given names second? Is Calliope her first name and Mori her last name? What about Anya Melfissa?

The EN girls all seem to be using Japanese name order. Calliope, Kiara, Gura, Ina'nis, and Amelia. The ID girls mostly use Japanese name order, except for Moona and Anya. As near as I can tell, anyway

Ame and Calli's youtube channels and twitter handles are one way round but in conversation (and on things like song releases) they use Western order. I know Gura sticks to Japanese order, not paid as much attention to Kiara and Ina.

Kiara and Ina both have their channel names in Japanese order.
