Opening.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanFrom the description and some of the samples I get the idea that the name comes from a specific scam where the scammer contacts the bereaved to tell them the deceased person had made a non-refundable down-payment on a personalised bible for their loved one (I.e. the bereaved.)
The bible is now ready. So sorry for your loss but do you want to continue the sale? We can cancel the sale without further cost for you though.
The bereaved is then expected to accept the sale, pay "the remainder" and get one last personal attention from their loved ones.
The scammer then sends them a (probably cheaply made) bible with a "To my darling Alice" written on the inside cover after they have pocketed 100$.
Apparently, this is the main MO in Paper Moon and that's where the name comes from; but I haven't seen the series so I can't comment on that.
Not sure whether this scam still exists these day. I hadn't heard about it before reading the trope page at least.
Agreed that this will need a clearer title (and serious re-write) if there are indeed enough samples to be found.

Everything can be found on the Internet... except common sense. The page looks like it has sufficient examples, but this title should really be changed.
Rhetorical, eh? ... Eight!Added banner to the page. The name Scamming the Bereaved jumps out at me.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. It's certainly a trope worth keeping, although it should probably get a rename that doesn't include the word "bible" since that's just one way to play the trope.
I'd like to apologize for all this.I like that name.
Yeah, that's a good name.

Crowner direct to the suggestion or normal two-step process?
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.I made a single prop for the rename. It's been five weeks, figured if anyone else had an alternate name it would've come up by now.
Somewhat unusual approach to crownering, but done.

Link to TRS threads in project mode here.Called crowner in favour of the rename and did some of the moderator-only steps myself. Now what is needed is:
- Wick moving
- The record-keeping in the FAQ thread, on the discussion page and Renamed Tropes.
- Moving the subpage
Done, done, and done. You can morgue this thread now.
Rock'n'roll never dies! The subpage is awaiting to be cut; other than that, it's done.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
I found this while looking for poorly named subtropes of The Con. Not only does the title fail to relate to the trope, but the description also doesn't help me understand what the trope is about. No wonder it has only 19 wicks. It has 53 on-page examples, but many of them are Zero-Context Examples.
I'm back!
