This is the official thread for Values Dissonance, Deliberate Values Dissonance, Fair for Its Day, and Values Resonance. A 20-year waiting period has been placed on the “values” tropes, due to various misuse and shoehorning.

Well, if nobody really has a problem with it, then I would also agree to remove it.
ValdoI agree with removing it.
This if from Blank Check:
- Values Dissonance: Considering how much more sensitive the general public has become to even the most gently implied sexualization of children (so much so that making two underage actors kiss each other for Stranger Things was controversial), there's no doubt that the scene of a twelve-year-old attempting to romance and kiss a 32-year-old woman on the lips would not only not be considered charming but also offensive enough result in a swift ending to the career of every single person involved.
I don't disagree with what the example is saying, but the way it's written seems a bit hyperbolic (saying that everyone's career would be ended for instance). At the very least, the Stranger Things reference is unnecessary.
Didn't we suspend someone who wrote over the top entries line this with this weird hatred of Stranger things?
"That's right mortal. By channeling my divine rage into power, I have forged a new instrument in which to destroy you."Yeah it seems to have been the same user too (The Remedy 91).
There are similarly over-the-top write-ups on the main Blank Check page too.
That names sounds familiar. Were they suspended or reported on ATT for any reason?
EDIT: Well that's what I get for not reading prior context before posting. I've got to work on that.

TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallHow's this for a rewrite:
- Values Dissonance: Considering how much more sensitive the general public has become to the sexualization of children, a scene of a twelve year old kissing a 32-year old woman would not fly today.
It looks good to me personally
I think that works.
Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)Much better.
Beware, I live!Only other thing I'd add to it was if that 32 year old woman was a man, everyone would've reacted with torches and pitchforks even at the time. That's probably besides the point though.
Anyways, I'm wondering, it's now the year that Futurama S 4 E 13 Bend Her first aired, would I have to wait until July 20th, 2023 to add a Values Dissonance entry to the YMMV page of the episode? Or do the month and day don't matter?
For anyone wondering, the episode's premise is Bender competing in the fembot division in the 3004 Olympics, then he turns himself into a fembot so he could keep all the medals he won. You can probably guess how this makes the episode controversial now.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! Why do you even need to bring that up? I am a guy and I still think your "A guy would have been arrested" thing is unnecesary.

Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I thought I was bringing up a nuance that wasn't mentioned in the post but apparently people don't want to hear it for some reason.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread! No we dont. Because it's not relevant. It's complaining about something that isnt even Values Dissonance.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I wasn't really complaining, just that I was pointing out something the entry missed. Mainly the fact she was a 32 year old woman would've gone unchecked back in the 90s.
Honestly wasn't expecting the reaction I was going to get when I said that . I was trying to help out and you got mad at me.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Ok I admit I was rude and that's uncalled for but the thing you said didnt help. Sorry.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.Yeah, I apologize as well. I wasn't really sure if what I was posting was really appropriate for this thread or not.
Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Values Dissonance is about something being okay when the work aired but isn't okay but current standards.
"if that 32 year old woman was a man", as I read above examples, that's not what's in the work, so let's not use hypothetical cases.
The Gender Bender may or may not work for Values Dissonance depending on how the example would be phrased. "You can probably guess", assume that people won't be able to guess why is something would be controversial today.
Also, every opinion in wiki maintenance forums are welcome, and clarity is expected in responses as well.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupNow that we're all past that, any input on the Futurama example I wanted to add? That episode I mentioned didn't raise many eyebrows when it first aired, but now it's controversial for how it depicts Bender as a trans athlete. I was also asking if we have to wait until the exact day and month before adding or just 20 years after the year it came out.

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Values Dissonance is at No Recent Examples, Please! with 20 years block from episode's airing.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThat DEFINITELY is an example... But for laughs and actual rule following you can wait till the example is actually July 20 2023.
Discord: Waido X 255#1372 If you cant contact me on TV Tropes do it here.I think it has to be 20 years to the day, yes. But I'm sure it'll be added because pretty much every queer fan I know (as well as some allies) cringes at that episode.
Hell, by the end of this year, there's gonna be entirely new Futurama episodes to contrast with that one.

I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. The Carrusel YMMV page includes a few examples:
- David sacrifices his pet turtle in order to make turtle soup for Fermin to recover from his illness. There is NO WAY this could have flown in the United States.
- To a lesser extent, the Friend to All Living Things in this show (Mario) is male. In North America and Northern Europe, this type of character is usually female. And while most of the females have no issues in animals...all but one (Valeria) are murophobic.
Should I add that in the 2012 remake, they actually made David change his mind about sacrificing his pet turtle and at the end of the day, Fermin is able to recover himself without having to eat turtle soup? Also, how is relevant that Mario is a male example of Friend to All Living Things to the fact that most girls in this series are murophobic? I feel like this is an unnecessary addition.
It's not even making fun of the turban; it's making fun of the Gauls' ignorance because they've literally never seen one before. I agree with removing the entry.
