"Most Common Mistakes" page?

I edited down the Images part because it was too long.

I just want to note that the purpose of this document is to outline the most common mistakes new troopers make and why they’re mistakes, and point them to more complete resources. I think you got a bit carried away and tried to comprehensively summarize all of our image guidelines, which is well beyond what this thing is for.

As for watermarks and completed works, they are against the rules but they’re nowhere near the most common issues in Image Pickin. That’s why I nixed them in favor of directing readers to the proper page.

But it's super common with videos, so maybe we can make a video section and mention those things as a "don't do"

I added information to the two sections in the Image Changes folder that just had banners. Feel free to adapt them to the formatting of the previous sections as you see fit, and don't hesitate to ask if you have questions.

Okay, so I've done a few things to the Common Troping Mistakes sandbox:

1. I ended up splitting up the section on "Choosing Unacceptable Images" and divided them between images, videos, and both based on where they're most prevalent.

2. I finished the unfinished entries and added a few more, just to cover as many bases as I could.

3. I did some proofreading, editing, and formatting of the page. That said, my eyes are crossing at looking at this draft so much the last few days, so any further eyes on the draft would be much obliged.

4. I did add a segment on "Mistakes Regarding Video Examples." It only has one entry so far, because I've had nothing at all to do with that aspect of the site and have no idea what its specific concerns are.

Asides continuing to help with editing and formatting, I think I've reached the extent of what I can do with this thing.

I might add more to the video section in a bit.

Okay, part of the issue with adding more to the Videos section is that the "Video and Images" section exists, but it seems very image-specific. I'll try to expand on what I can, but some of the issues in that specific folder are actually image-specific and need to be moved.

Made a few final tweaks. Thoughts?

Starting to think we should have a "Creating Work Pages In Completely The Wrong Location Because You Have Literally No Idea How Page Titles Work, How Do You Even Mess Up That Egregiously" section.

... probably definitely phrased less abrasively than that.

I like the expansions of the image-related parts but there's a lot of redundant pieces. I'm going to work on condensing some of those.

I re-read the page recently, and it looks good.

Can I add a little bit about how "complete work" can refer to an episode, for instance, as opposed to the whole show? 'Cause I made that mistake first.

Are cracking jokes really a super common editing problem? I can't say I've seen many AT Ts about people making too many references or running gags, and having that section gives off kind of a "don't make jokes unless approved" kind of vibe.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but do we still have plans for that sandbox?

If so, can I add that thing people do where they ask, "Hats?" or similar in the TLP?

Looking through the sandbox myself (having not been involved in the discussion) and I think there might be merit in having a section on Fan Myopia in examples, why it is discouraged, how to avoid it, etc. Any other thoughts?

I added a Fan Myopia section awhile back per your request, and I rewrote some of it.

As far as the entry about going on too long to make a joke, after the comments in this thread I ended up removing it because in retrospect, it's really not a common issue IME. I'd like to keep this page focused with things that actually happen, not things that might happen once in a great while.

As far as asking about "hats?" in TLP, that's not a mistake so much as something a few people find annoying.

Big bump. I saw this pop up in my Followed Pages tab due to the Wiki namespace dewicking.

How is the current status of the page? Any adjustments that should be made? Any categories that should be added/removed? And is the idea of such a page sound to the mods?
