Misused: Difficulty Spike

To-do list:

• Difficulty Spike, Sequel Difficulty Spike, and Sequel Difficulty Drop are now YMMV, so wicks are only allowed on YMMV pages unless they're acknowledged in the work. Wick cleanup is being kept track of in the Sandbox.Difficulty Dewicking sandbox.

Hrm, I have to agree. According to me, for example, I consider a certain level to be more easier than the rest, yet some people claim that it's actually one of the harder levels they've faced. I guess it does depend on when the spike occurs.

As mentioned on the threads, I agree; I think that in practice it's impossible to say objectively what is and isn't difficult.

I can get behind making it YMMV.

I agree with making Difficulty Spike YMMV. Other pages related to video game difficulty, such as That One Level, That One Boss, Breather Boss, Breather Level, and Demonic Spiders are YMMV.

That should be made YMMV too.

If that is made YMMV, then wouldn't Sequel Difficulty Drop also have to be YMMV?

Regardless, I think those two tropes should get their own thread (though I won't complain if a mod ends up saying we can tackle those two in this thread), though Sequel Difficulty Spike and Sequel Difficulty Drop could probably share a single thread later on due to how closely related they are.

Yep, I was on mobile and too lazy to type Sequel Difficulty Drop, but the same thing would apply. As I said in one of the previous threads, the images on both look like opinion surveys.

I checked the page images and I agree that they look like opinion surveys.

Why? Aren't they pretty much the same concepts?

Normally I'd be for having the different issues in different threads, but they're the same tropes essentially and suffer from the exact same issue. Why not just kill three birds with one stone?

I was concerned about broadcasting, but I guess we can just add the banners to those pages as well. And the whole 'does a supertrope being ymmv automatically make the subtropes ymmv' debate.

I do think these tropes are very similar, so I suppose we can tackle them all here if that's what others want.

I did say that I would have preferred to tackle Sequel Difficulty Drop and Sequel Difficulty Spike separately, but as I previously said, if the mods end up saying they're OK with those being tackled here, then fair enough. I suppose that would be what decides whether the crowner gets hooked with its current wording (i.e., mentioning the two Sequel tropes in the header).

Edit: That said, the header's wording isn't exactly clear on whether the Sequel tropes are covered. The use of the word "should" makes it sound like it's stating on opinion (i.e., "these ought to be YMMV as well") rather than stating that the vote is for them as well (i.e., "this crowner applies to the Sequel tropes in addition to Difficulty Spike").

Clarified.

I feel like this would have been better suited to a Page Action crowner instead of a Single Proposition crowner, with the three having separate options.
