Just a Face and a Caption: Fake Ultimate Hero

The image clearly displays a muscular man in a sort-of heroic pose, but there's nothing to suggest that he isn't really a brave and mighty warrior. Sure, there's a little imperial-ish design (white cape, eagle emblem, ect.), but that isn't what the image is supposed to show - it's supposed to show a weak character feigning strength, not a bad character feinging heroism.

I'd've sworn we'd had at least one thread about this one but there's not one tagged. I'm not sure what to think about this one...maybe pairing the current or a similar shot of him from the anime or manga with a pic of him not fitting the reputation?

I'm not sure if this is high-quality enough (I don't have access to any DB media), but how's this?

The blonde character putting the bigger character in a headlock looks physcially weaker, don't you think?

I think we should show him against Cell, since it's not really an ultimate hero if he's just participating in a tournament. looks more like Small Name, Big Ego

Yeah, that seems to illustrate it better. I don't really know who any of the characters are, but cell does look evil.

Yeah, I think I like that take a little better.

The trope is about characters gaining hero status by lies and deception. Of course, they will ultimately fail their calling but that part they have in common with similar tropes like Decoy Protagonist or Heroic Wannabe.

Going back to the reason I started this thread - there's nothing in the original image to suggest that Hercule is weak. The image WikiWanderer put forward does display weakness, but also displays Hercule's "hero" status by having his fight broadcast. Even comparing the designs of the two, Cell seems like the evil one.

Yeah, but it's also less illustrative. It's just a tournament, and he doesn't show any signs of being a "hero" in either pic... just some arrogant guy who got defeated.
