Edit: I've created the index. So far I've added only those pages that have mandatory waiting periods already in effect.
It's been brought up in a few places recently (most notably in this ATT thread) that we have a few tropes / Audience Reactions / etc. that have mandatory waiting periods before being added. The suggestion has been made— which I tend to agree with— that some sort of index to keep track of which tropes have waiting periods and what those periods are would be helpful.
Besides what's already on the index, we've got:
- Specific Mandatory Waiting Period Suggested:
- Critical Dissonance - Brought up here as being too early to call on release weekend. Fighteer suggests a one-month mandatory waiting period on all similar "reception tropes."
- Overshadowed by Controversy - a 6-month mandatory waiting period has been suggested but not agreed upon yet
- The Scrappy - Due to its close association with Base-Breaking Character and its status as a complaining magnet, has been suggested for a 6-month waiting period in this thread.
- No specific waiting period has been suggested, but adding it too early has caused problems:
- Eight Deadly Words - It was suggested here that the below should apply to this as well
- So Bad, It's Good - Fighteer noted here that the weekend of release was too early to apply tropes like these
- So Okay, It's Average - see above
Template tag for work pages:
%% Per Administrivia/NoRecentExamplesPlease, do not add [Trope] until [X] months/days/weeks after the episode's release (Month Date, Year).
Use this date calculator to add the amount of months/days/weeks in accordance to No Recent Examples, Please!.
- As mentioned here, the consensus is that NREP warnings in trope page descriptions can use bold text so that they stand out.

Re-added the following to Apparently Powerless Puppetmaster:
For Real Life examples, they have to be at least 20 years after leaving office (including dying while in office).
Kirby is awesome.A TRS discussion has decided that Condemned by History will have a five year waiting period.
I've added it to the index.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportRallyBot2 suggested that for EnemyMine.RealLife, we propose the removal of all political examples that occurred within the past ten years, as well as for general cleanup.

Kirby is awesome. How long should the cutoff be for political examples in EnemyMine.Real Life? I propose ten years.

Kirby is awesome. Why do you want me specifically?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI don't know about how long the cutoff should be. I'll say 10 years, that sounds good.
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI should probably chime in: The reason I limited it to political (or obviously politically-adjacent) examples is because those are the only controversial ones. We don't need to take a wrecking ball to the trope. I chose 10 years as the limit because that guarantees that nearly any involved politician in any country is either out of office or has won re-election a couple times.
Would it even be problematic to note if known political rivals or countries at war work together towards a common goal, as long as they are indeed working together and don't just happen to share a belief? I don't see the risk of controversy in this trope, because it's possible to write examples without assigning moral values to each person/government/whatever.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe. The fundamental problem here isn't with a neutral point of view. It's that people are adding almost every time that at least one liberal and at least one conservative agree on anything, often within a few days of it happening (or before; there are already examples for upcoming 2021 and 2022 elections.) The time limit would ensure that only actually significant examples are added.
There are also the usual problems with general examples and the other type of "recent" examples, but that's par for the course where politics are involved.
if "any time a progressive agrees with a conservative" isn't an example (and i agree with you, it really shouldn't be; they should have to be actively working together towards a goal, not just verbally agreeing about it), there are some examples on the page that aren't valid regardless of their age. the Nixon entry about cigarette ads is exactly what you're talking about.
e: really, the page needs a cleanup in general. indentation, natter, misuse... the works.

Agreed. If, hypothetically, Biden suddenly announced tomorrow that he was going to team up with Trump to make some kind of plan to fight a common enemy, then would it be any less valid if added at the time than if it was added 10 years later? And would this really prevent shoehorning in politicians in the previous decade and earlier who shared beliefs, despite not working together towards a common goal?
NREP should be for examples that require some sort of cultural consensus, like critical scores or audience reception, to make sense. I don't know if that's the problem here and adding a NREP clause feels like an excuse to avoid the hard work of cleanup without addressing the real problem.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Soooo...should we make an Enemy Mine Cleanup?
TRS Queue | Works That Require Cleanup of Complaining | Troper WallI have created the Enemy Mine Cleanup Thread (it's in the Projects: Short Term forum):

Kirby is awesome.- Author's Saving Throw: Glavenus has sometimes been regarded as a Spotlight-Stealing Squad, due to how much more focus it got compared to other members of the Fated Four. In Generations, it was the only one of the four flagship monsters with a Deviant. While it was DLC, it was the only one of the Fated Four to be in Stories. And in Iceborne, it was the only fourth-generation mascot featured at all... and got a new subspecies on top of everything else. Come Rise, however, Glavenus's return has yet to be confirmed, while Mizutsune has gotten front-and-center treatment in early promotions.
This is probably going to to be a premature call. Glavenus will probably return, whenever in the main game or DLC.
As a side note, if Mizutsune is part of the Fated Four, then it shouldn't be potholed to Ensemble Dark Horse. I'm also not even sure if "not putting a monster think is overexposed" is even a saving throw. Maybe if it was worded more like "monsters people think are underexposed are given more prominence"

Thomas fans needed! Come join me in the the show's cleanup thread!Should I add EnemyMine.Real Life to the crowner?
The limit being 10 years since the formation of the alliance or 10 years since the common foe has been dealt with?
Edited by Nen_desharu on Mar 17th 2021 at 11:46:09 AM
Kirby is awesome.Go ahead.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.Done.
I went with the 10 years after alliance is formed as it's the most common interpretation.
Kirby is awesome. We've pitched an idea here for Role-Ending Misdemeanor to have a waiting period of one week after the role was ended to avoid knee-jerk reactions and to make sure all information about such incidents would come out when the example is ready to be added.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.A week sounds good, but how are we going to determine when the role has ended?

I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool. There’s usually something that clicks that takes it to it’s most extreme point (E.G. Being banned from radio, arrested, dropped from the TV show you’re on).
Basically if you can’t bring up the person without talking about the misdemeanor, or if you can’t bring them up at all, I think it’s safe.
Ok bitch it's Weezer and it's WeezyYep. And if you can't pinpoint to the specific consequence of their misbehavior then that's a sign it's probably a shoehorn anyway.
I do some cleanup and then I enjoy shows you probably think are cringe.Given that Franchise Killer is now a No Recent Examples, Please! trope, do you think we should set a time limit for the Creator Killer trope as well?

He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Yes. Don't know how long though. Maybe 6 or 7 years, to make it in between 5 and 10 years?

I'm going to close Apparently Powerless Puppetmaster as NREP. It's been a month since the last vote rally for this item.
