Useful Notes Cleanup

It's already on the cutlist.

Al Capone could use some clean up, seeing as it has a list of tropes describing him directly (as if he were a fictional character), including some NREP ones like Big Bad and Dragon Ascendant. (It'd also be nice if someone organized the list of works depicting him.)

I'd prefer to pull the trope list entirely as he's not a character, unless someone is willing to rewrite it to "tropes typically associate with him in fiction".

The tropes pertaining to his personal life should definitely be pulled. Some like Big Bad can probably stay, but only if they're rewritten to note something like, "He's portrayed as the Big Bad in The Untouchables (1987)".

Thoughts on Benedict Arnold and The Emu War?

Does Billion Dollar Club need to (1) exist (2) be an index? (the latter is my bigger concern as I hate index bloat, but an entire page just for this feels superfluous in general)

Probably not (answer for both questions).

Agreed on doing away with that. Not just for the big mentioned reason:

• The name is very informal for being a UN. Doesn't have a Wikipedia entry by that name either.
• Just a simple list that does not factor in inflation.
• Only a short description that solely exists to index. Ergo, not "useful".

Remind me how do we measure "Useful Notes are not Wikipedia"? Some articles are very specific and have no wicks aside indexes.

Do emulators like DOSBox and MAME go on Platform/?

Emulators allow for players to experience games, so I would say yes, they go in Platform/

I don't see much need to have pages on game emulators, though Platform/ would be the place for them.

I could see the case for emulators getting their own page if people are specifically targeting the emulator for homebrew or rom hacks. I vaguely recall people doing that for Dolphin since it had extra capabilities beyond the stock hardware.

The most recent edit to UsefulNotes.Black Holes seems rather nattery in nature. Zap?

Also, TBH I've always been a little irked at the Game-Breaking Bug line in the second paragraph.

I won't miss those tidbits if you remove them.

Both feel unneeded to me too so I don't have any issue with either of them being cut.

We could have a useful pages FOR emulation itself but NOT individual emulators.

UsefulNotes.Last Of The Summer Wine Actors is a list of the cast, linking to their Creator pages with no other information, and doesn't feel like it's a normal UN page.

Any thoughts? Cut? Or in scope?

I recently found Usefulnotes.Free Libre Open Source Software, and it's a complete mess. At various points, it equates libre and gratis software, while also claiming that free software and open source are different things, and outright states that some open source software isn't open source. It also seems to equate libre software with copyleft but also describes copyleft as non-libre, and the entire thing is at best confused.

I would like to propose a wholesale rewrite, but in order to do it properly, I think we should also make Copyleft and Copyfree. Alternatively, it might make more sense to have a single page covering all aspects of copyleft and copyfree, and fold the existing page on FLOSS into it. Libre software is inherently copyleft or copyfree, and the libre software movement is where the ideas first crystallised, but they are most certainly not limited to software.
