Answers to Frequently Asked Questions
- Why did we do this? This update has been in development for over a year. It replaces a vast amount of messy code on the back-end, gives us a new modernized design, updates us to https, and creates a platform that we can more easily build on for future updates.
- Can we go back to the old design? This isn't happening. We'll make the new one work.
- Why are there so many bugs? As with any major overhaul, some problems will occur. The developers are working full-time on fixing stuff.

- The Cut List does not work.

A different user is having a problem with the site where the adblock-detection system redirects her to a fullpage error message that can't be turned off, not the popup.
Oh yeah, speaking of posts. It's super annoying how the page navigation isn't also at the top of the page anymore.

The new YMMV and Trivia markers advising to move the example over to the respective tab appear even if the wikiword is linked from the main text of the example, rather than right after the bullet point (before, the engine only checked the first wiki word), e.g. on Reflections of Eterna. Is that working as intended?
And here I didn't think the layout could get any worse than the last change...
The images have all been shrunken. The color scheme hurts my eyes. The formatting is worse, and my tropes watchlist is nigh on unreadable.
Why? What was the point of making everything worse?

On my iPhone 6's Safari browser, the main page has no search bar.
I also had the login problem a few times. And speaking of images, I can't upload new avatars to my profile at all. When I try (with a fully square image too), it just says 'Error updating remote server', and it won't let me do anything other than removing the image file. I also can't switch to another avatar that's already in my gallery anymore.

The Thread Watch page shows ALL the forum threads im watching even if they have no new posts made and it's really annoying because i have to scroll through 100+ threads.
Also the entire user interface completely sucks and is a downgrade to the old one and we need an option that makes us able to change back to the one that was actually good and functional because now my avatar isn't even displayed on my profile page and is instead replaced by the generic broken image icon.

Uploading images doesn't work. You put in an image, it loads, and then the tiny icon just sits there and you can't access the image link.

Io tried to edit a page as a test. I made my edit, the site took a good thirty seconds to load a new page. That page was a blank screen. I went back to the page I edited and it's locked. So now every time you try to edit a page the page locks itself.
First, I'm noticing pages locking and unlocking at random. Is this how it now signifies someone is currently editing them? Before, it would tell us if someone was in the middle of editing. It also doesn't link to the Locked Pages list like before.
Second, I can no longer see the edit page button when in the pages history section, which is oft how I find what needs editing and thus an inconvenience.
Is an intentional change or not or if I'm missing something.

secretfan14 a temporary fix for that would be to take the image's file name and slot it into the tvtropes image url. If it's been uploaded then that should work.

When editing a post in the TPL the cancel and save buttons overlap with the text box.
Random pages are locked and unlocked for me.
Perpetually Confused
In Night Vision mode, the WMG, and YMMV, Series, Webcomic and basically any of the namespace icon who are black or grey are almost impossible to make out.
In regular "White Mode", the same grey/black icons are even MORE impossible to see if they are the namespace you currently are in as the currently selected namespace icon turns dark grey.
Also in Night Vision Mode, when editing or writing a new post in the forum, the thread title remains blue on white.
The image Uploader is broken. I drop an image, I get a progress bad, then never get a formatting markup to link to my uploaded image.

I tried to edit Here We Go Again! using the new system, but it just gave me a "trying to change too much of the page" error. When I tried to preview my change (which only affected one entry), it showed me a blank page. Now the page is locked for editing.
Update: After I manually entered "?action=edit", it let me cancel the edit and unlock the page again.

Also, this new way of going back to previous pages in a forum thread ain't working very well for me. Any chance we could possibly go back to when certain preceeding page numbers were listed and you could just click on them?

One of the things that irritates me the most about the internet is websites randomly deciding they need to change their layouts and design. What was remotely wrong with the previous design? Nothing whatsoever, and all this did was irritate a bunch of people and gave the programmers a shitload of bugs to fix. Now I'm wondering if I have any security and privacy with my watch list and email if any random, possibly malicious fool can randomly be logged into my account at any moment.
I have a few problems with the new update... Note: I actually have to use a completely different browser to get the site to work (Specifically Microsoft Edge, which I have never used before):
1. I cannot get it to work on Chrome (My normal browser). I can't do anything. It looks like ''this'' on Chrome.

2. I have that log in as random people glitch on Chrome. I can go from one part of the site to another and I'll be logged in as random people, or not be logged in at all.
3. I would like to have line breaks in my signature. My signature format got ruined because of the fact that you cannot have line breaks now...
4. Why is the option to change your avatar almost completely hidden now? I change my avatars a lot, and I appreciated having the option to look at the avatar gallery and upload avatars without having to click on "More". This is extremely inconvenient. Then when I did go to change my avatar I couldn't even tell it was changed until I left that page and looked at another page. At first I thought it wasn't working.
5. The avatar gallery is weird. It only shows like three pages at a time. It really startled me at first thinking that my other avatars were deleted by accident or something.
6. Apparently the image link I linked to is a hotlinked image?! So I can't even show you what it looks like unless I (hopefully) edit my post to have the words link to it instead?
I have no idea what to do about this...

First, the link in the bulletin is still botched.
Second, the note function is also botched too, being normal text instead of the usual appearance.
And third, the deactivate spoiler function is missing? I'd like it to be at the sidebar as it used to be.
Edit: Fourth, as I viewed my post on this thread while nightvision on, it appeared with light grey text on white background, which is just as readable as it sounds. And it was only my post, everyone else's post appeared to be like the trope pages in therms of colours.
Edit 2: Point four seems to be fixed, my post being white on greyish blue.
