Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

I’m gonna be that guy and guess that Peni was always the Plan B (both in the comics and now here) in case Takuya Yamashiro was tied up in too many rights issues.

Also is this Parker implied to be the Tobey Maguire one?

Well, several of the shots on his opening narration were based on or taken from the Raimi Trilogy, but beyond that, probably composite.

He seems like he could be Maguire Parker if the later events of Spider-Man 3 never happened (the Venom Symbiote, breaking up with Mary Jane, etc). If you recall, that version of Peter was pretty much at the height of his popularity in the early points of the movie, and was actively dating MJ.

I don't know much about Peni, besides her being an obvious Anime Stereotype (and that her Mech apparently resembled an Evangelion (which I know a lot about despite having never tried to watch it). What else can you guys tell me?

I'm probably predicting that it will end up getting a PG rating, since The Incredibles and Kung Fu Panda 2 both managed to push the rating in the past.

Also, is it me, or does Peni Parker sound somewhat like Sarah Williams^note the English voice of Nonon Jakuzure from Kill la Kill and Sayaka Miki from Puella Magi Madoka Magica a bit?

The only pity about all of this is that I doubt this movie will be the best Spider-Man product this year, what with the game and all.

For the record, that's Kimiko Glenn as Peni Parker.

Online sources say she’s voiced by Kimiko Glenn, aka Brooke in Orange Is the New Black and one of the female generals in Voltron (not Keith’s love interest, the other one).

I thought all the Raimi scenes were just shout-outs to the movies, especially since at least one of them goes a very different way than how it went in the movie.

Spidey punching the car was a nice detail.

Yeah. If they wanted to show that this was a very experienced Peter, they succeeded.

He probably is, due to being displaced in a universe where he has no identity, no bank accounts, no apartment, etc.

I find it weird how Noir is wearing his hat & coat all the time now for some reason.

The long and short of it is that she's a fourteen year old Japanese student whose dad was the original SP//der (who is actually the result of a Pacific Rim style synchornization with a radioactive spider). Her dad died, she allowed the spider to bite her, and now she's basically kind of like D.Va from Overwatch.

Also one of her villains is a Mysterio who is an obsessive fan of hers.

Admitably it is rather sad they seem to be toning down her Evangelion-esque nature in exchange for a more more generic kawaii moe look.

Like someone from Evangelion Peni’s a somewhat serious character in Spider-Verse comic.

I think her second comic for Spider-Geddon brought in a Venom mech.

Eh it wouldn't have fit. Even Noir is looking to be The Comically Serious so this Peni was the right move.

That is a really cool looking trailer! I also dig Peni's and Spider-Ham's designs and how they are designed differently from the other spider heroes.

I seriously cannot wait for this movie.

Nah that's Takuya Yamashiro and Leopardon. Yes there are two unrelated Japanese Mech Spider-Men.

Oh right, someone on this thread brought up that Peni's dad may have been a Captain Ersatz / Expy of that other dude because of Rights Issues, and that her use may play into that.

Man, I gotta pay better attention sometimes.

Fun fact at Peni. She's was co created by Gerard Way. The lead vocalist of My Chemical Romance

Believe it or not, the thing I'm hyped the most about is Nicolas Cage playing Noir Spidey.

I assume the reason for the overhaul of Peni Parker's mech was not wanting to open up the possibility of a lawsuit. The whole premise and look of the character are so blatantly inspired by NGE that there might have been worries from the legal department, even if it was clearly intended as an homage rather than a straight ripoff.
