Wait, are you talking about the incident two years ago? Or has there been another one since then?
New incident. Look at all the Wiki Talk threads about the subject.
Anyway, I doubt that we need to complain of the cut-and-restart-from-scratch approach to Fan Fic Recommendations, so let's keep this out, OK?

"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman@27: There has. It resulted in a slash-and-burn of all pages on "pedo-friendly" works and most recently all works classified (rightly or wrongly) as Hentai. None of us are happy about it, particularly the fans of a certain popular visual novel series on here that got cutlocked for being hentai despite its anime adaptation having nothing of the sort.
We're hoping that this committee will exercise some restraint in regards to which works pages should be kept and which should be put to the sword.

One thing though - the committee has not been announced yet according to what the OP says, so the cutlocking of Fanfic Recs is not for them, it is for FE.
@Septimus: How would we not need to complain? It is obviously a step out of bounds, and if not called for, things will continue like this.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google? If a wiki is incapable of self-policing this sort of thing then it might be time to abandon the concept of wikis altogether, since they're dependent on self-policing this sort of thing.
In other words, no, this is wrong, and goes against the core reasons we have an open community participatory project.

Nous restons ici.We are not going to risk having them here until they have been gone over in detail.

Goal: Clear, Concise and Witty@33: We or you? As usual, there were like three or four other alternatives not as disruptive and unfair, such as starting by purging known examples (we have has specific reports on fanfic recs on eg.: porn beforehand) and then locking the entire thing for revision.
Fanfic Recs orwellianretcon'd: cutlocked for committee or for Google?Yes, I am not going to risk having them here until they have been gone over in detail. Getting rid of them first makes the default situation so that they are not here until the examination is complete.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyI don't see it as unfair. I see it as necessary. Not enough attention was paid to them in the past and we had it blow up in our faces. Along with other problem areas. I am sorry to say the track record of the editors on when to know better is at the very best very spotty. Better to nuke the lot then let the ones that past muster trickle back in. It should be pretty obvious when something is porn and something is not.
Who watches the watchmen?Well, as long as the council goes through the cutted-ones and sorts which ones should be really cut and those restored, I can be at ease. Now though, I can't really say that I'm not worried about this whole situation.

Always looking for a good MMORPG with a great community...I share Delvarian's concern about this situation in general. This entire thing rubs me completely the wrong way, and as I said before, I'm saddened that it had to come to this.
I know it's sad, but I am sure that the TV Tropes Porn Watch Comittee (or whatever it will be named) will make a good job and bring the more useful stuff back.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard Feynman@Two Gun Angel: "None of us are happy about it"
Speak for yourself, please. I know I'm not the only one who's very pleased that we're getting rid of a lot of awful drivel.
And I'm not talking about getting rid of things I think, personally, are stupid. Just because I don't like something doesn't mean that I think we need to cut it. I mean the stuff that's undeniably pedo or clearly Porn with Plot, especially when it comes to Fan Fic.

"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.I may have been making a generalization with the "none of us" line. But you can't deny that a lot of people on the wiki aren't too happy about the recent cuts, particularly in regards to what is and isn't Hentai.
This thread could use an announcement. From talking around, it seems a lot of people have no idea what just happened.
Edit: And add my name to the list of those happy to see hardcore porn gone but upset about "a particular Visual Novel series."

Well that was like playing a game of Whack-A-Mole where "mole" is defined as "Cthulhu". -Count Dorku@40
I thought something being Porn with Plot was a good thing, in that it still had a story that people could examine. You may have been looking for Porn Without Plot there. And even then, we have a page on that, so...

@42: Yeah. This is a rather big change to the wiki in general.
edited 14th Apr '12 10:10:08 AM by TwoGunAngel
My impression is that the Fanfic Recommendations were cut temporarily, and that after the entire thing has been examined, the content that isn't porny will be restored.
Anyway, is this still specifically underage sex and pedo-gushing, or has it moved to all porn, including adult only?
Also, I'll reiterate my request that when the Council reviews a work which none of them has read/watched, which is rather too long to read/watch in reasonable time, that the Council solicit input from tropers already familiar with the work. That would help prevent accidentally cutting things that don't need cutting, like a certain classic English-language novel.
Anyway, as long as only porn and pedophilia gets cut, and worthwhile works that are not about porn or pedo but simply have some sex scenes scattered in them are not cut, then I'll be fine with it. The main difficulty is just determining what is and isn't porny.

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.I thought I wouldn't be OK with this, but I am.
Keeper of The Celestial Flame@45: That's the direction I'd like to see taken as well. Kind of a middle ground.
@Midonin, maybe I used the wrong term. I just looked at Plot With Porn and I noticed that Manara's works are included there, I would assume including Borgia: Power And Incest. In that case I'd be for keeping some of it, as long as it's not celebrating pedophilia or anything similarly awful. I don't know about all the anime stuff on that page, because I don't really watch that*, but I'd give any of it just as much of a chance as Manara's stuff. Unfortunately, due to past experience and the stuff we've been cutting recently, I suspect at least some of the Japanese media stuff is unacceptable.
EDIT: And yeah, I know that Borgia has incest in it - if you couldn't tell from the title - so if that's one of the new forbidden things then I wouldn't really cry if we cut it.

"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler. So, would someone like to clarify why Fate Stay Night has been cut?
It may be classed as an H-game, but that's hardly the focus and those scenes are incredibly scarce compared to everything else in it.
"Oh, dear. The toad, the monkey, and the dog have all screwed up."Because it was on the Hentai index, which was cut as a whole.
It will most likely be back soon.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer
I don't think we need to chop all of them; there are a fair number of recs that are pretty obviously innocuous.
