Nice job, people-who-made-it-happen. It's amusing and all, whilst being unobtrusive. It's a fuction to go to /InsertRandomNamespaceHere/HomePage, I take it?

Edit: What is Po.Home Page? Is "Po" short for "Poetry"?

Edit #2: We have a Yoda home page!?

Edit #3: Alright, who created ElmerFudd.Home Page?

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

A++, would be fooled again.

In all seriousness, I absolutely love the Pirate "translation" and I wish more pages were "translated" as such.

I don't know how many versions of the Home Page there are gonna be today, but so far my favorite is:

Welcome, good sirs, to TV Tropes!

Come on in, we'll show you the ropes!

~

What is this about?

This wiki is, without a doubt,

a catalog of the tricks of the trade

for writing fiction and giving of aid.

We dip into the cauldron of story,

whistle up a hearty spoonful without worry

and splosh it down right in front

for you to eat and wash down with a grunt.

~

Tropes are conventions and devices

that a writer can rely on without rising prices

as they are present in the audience's expectations.

On the whole, tropes are not clichéd complications.

The word clichéd means "stereotyped and trite".

In other words, dull, the audience's blight.

We are not looking for entries that bore.

We are here to recognize tropes and much more

play with them, too, not to make fun

of everything interesting under the sun.

~

The wiki is called "TV Tropes"

because that is where we started, before outreaching scopes.

Over the course of a few years, this encyclopedia

has crept out to include all types of other media.

Tropes transcend television.

They exist in real life, as we will be quick to envision.

Since art does its best to life reflect,

tropes are likely to show up everywhere with respect.

~

We are not a stuffy encyclopedic wiki spectacular.

We're buttloads more informal (we use the vernacular!).

There Is No Such Thing as Notability, and no citations needed.

If your entry doesn't grow by magic, consider warnings heeded.

It will just wither and die, a trope still theoretical.

But it will still be available through the index (all alphabetical).

We encourage breezy language and original thought

(and won't mind to the occasional snark, so don't get distraught).

~

Click in the menu on "Troperville"

on the upper left of any page if you will

to find the places where tropers can gather

and write what they want and blather and blather.

~

Go on, have fun. We'll give you some credit.

We'll be along soon, we just have to click "Edit."

As far as I remember the pirate version of the homepage has been around for quite some time before, but (most of) the others seem new.

Most of them have been around for at least a year or so. The Laconic and Haiku are brand new, because those had originally pointed to the page that described the Namespace, so they were rewritten in the last week to be translations.

And in answer to "how many are there?" Well, there are more than a dozen and fewer than fifty.

Actually, looking at the history pages most of them have been around since at least some time last spring/summer.

And the one in Quenya is my new favourite.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

I must admit that took me a while to realise.

[up][up] Yep, but apparently Best Of, ccoa, Ironeye, Fighteer and Bobby G haven't got the memo (yet), they're still themselves.

[up] I thought Eddie had messed up the styling once again.

So.... Are we allowed to write Yoda/Pira/Fudd etc. versions of regular pages, as long as we keep them on the appropriate namespace?

[up][up][up] So, is anybody going to have the honors of playing Eddie for a "day"? Found the answer myself.

[up][up] Actually they got switched several times, among them also Tweety and a Stormtrooper. But Spartacus was indeed the most hilarious one.

Catbert: If you want to. For trope pages, they could also be made in the Self-Demonstrating namespace.

And if you think it's bizarre seeing it out here in the forums, let me assure you that the mod thread where we discussed doing it and then set it up is hilariously confusing to read right now.[lol]

It's amazing how much we actually instinctively identify posters from their gingerbread.
