Episode 14's summary casually dropping that Gammamon is still upset about Bokomon is concerning.

Rebel brought up who the next Digimon will be, at least based on the last preview. It's pretty ominous so far.

The summaries in question, by the way. Spoiler marked, of course.

Episode 14- Zashiki-warashi (January 16) Hiro Amanokawa and co. accompany Kiyoshiro Higashimitarai to a resort, where he is attending a conference. Hiro's partner Gammamon is still upset about Bokomon, so Hiro wants to do something to cheer Gammamon up. However, the place they are staying at is a haunted hotel where a zashiki-warashi is said to frequently prank the lodgers there. Many of the pranks are cute, such as moving the temari handball in the lobby or hearing the piano play out of nowhere. However, ever since Hiro and co. stay at the hotel, the pranks grow more and more frequent, troubling the employees. Just then, a package arrives at their room.

Episode 15- The Mystic's Lair (January 23) There is a mysterious fortune-teller who can solve any problem you have 100%, but you never know when or where their abode will appear. The name of the fortune-teller is Mephisto. Ruli Tsukiyono's best friend Mika asks her to find Mephisto. While this is going on, Kiyoshiro's partner Jellymon rummages through junk in search of a bargain and comes upon an exquisitely well-made stone statue of a young woman. When Jellymon touches the eerie statue that is as black as darkness, Jellymon realizes that it is a human being transformed. The mysterious fortune-teller's house and the black statue... What is the horrible plan that connects these two?

Episode 16- Man-eating Forest (January 30) Hiro takes Gammamon solo-camping with him, and hears from the campground manager that some campers have been leaving without paying lately, as though they had been spirited away. While enjoying camping, Hiro and Gammamon hear a scream from the nearby forest and enter it. Unfortunately, the forest is a terrible place where people who enter it are led astray by an eerie mist and go missing one by one. While surrounded by the mist, Hiro and co. are attacked by tree monsters. What on earth is going on in this forest?

Episode 17- Freezing Hell (February 6)

Episode 13 of Ghost Game gives us a legit mass-murderer Digimon. Who kills Bokomon, which pushes Gammamon to his superpowered evil side Gulusgammamon. He’s nowhere near as cool as Skullgreymon but the angst is real.

And now there’s a Black Agumon lurking in the shadows. Looks like the plot is getting meatier, boys.

Today's episode

Well, that explains what will happen if Digimon is dead in the pseudo Digital World. Although, no explanation on what will happen to the other Digimon who died outside of it like Gorimon and those two Monodramon. In at least one previous series, dying in real world means you die for real, but who knows if the same also applies in this series.

GrusGammamon just announce the attack name by himself since Hiro is unable to do it, which is kinda funny in a way, despite the dark scene.

Also, a BlackAgumon that likely will play a role in the future. Hmm......

Woah... He may have only been around for roughly four episodes, but the fact that we had a major ally Digimon get murdered this early in a series is kind of amazing. Poor Bokomon, willing to give his life to protect Gammamon. At least he's a Digitama and is being looked after by BlackTailmon Uver. In Bokomon's place, it looks like Bakumon, Clockmon, and Monitamon will need to serve as the groups support now.

And as I thought, the culprit was a Sealsdramon. A German speaking Serial Killer Sealsdramon that is known as "der Scharfrichter". And his confirmed body count includes Gorimon, Salamandamon, Flymon, two Monodramon, and Bokomon, along with 994 other victims! And damn is he fast at racking up the kills, since Gorimon was kill 992, but Salamandamon was kill 995, meaning he managed to kill both those two and two other Digimon in the same night. It was sheer luck that Jellymon didn't get killed too. Sealsdramon is honestly feeling like the Knight of Cerebus for this series.

Max: And where does he keep getting knives?!
  • What's more... we never actually learn why Sealsdramon was doing this. GulusGammamon thinks he was just obsessed with a kill count, but he kept saying "the number", that he was "one short", and even seemed happy when GulusGammamon killed him, since he became the final number.
    • If it was really just a kill count, why would he be happy he was killed? Him dying wouldn't increase his own kill count, it would be GulusGammamon's kill.
    • What was so special about 1001 kills?
    • Was he really acting on his own here? Or did he get orders to come to the human world? We know that travel is possible thanks to BlackTailmon Uver. and his rice cooker, so did he get sent here for some reason?
  • What's worse is... it would seem the series is sticking close to the lore when it comes to Sealsdramon. For those who don't know, Sealsdramon is a member of the "D-Brigade", a militaristic black-ops group in the Digital World comprised of countless Commandramon, Sealsdramon, and Tankdramon. And the D-Brigade... they are not an enemy to be trifled with.
    • A Sealsdramon only comes about via "Selection-D", a test where 100 Commandramon participate, but only one becomes a Sealsdramon, the groups top tier assassins.
    • In their entire career, only one Tankdramon was ever shot down, and that was because it's enemy was a Bancho. Said Tankdramon was taken back to a research facility and experimented on... and was turned into the nightmarish Darkdramon, The Berserker that had been intended to be a last resort weapon, but managed to escape and is now on the loose hunting down the Digimon that shot it down: Codename: BAN-TYO, aka BanchoLeomon.
  • So, if the lore for the D-Brigade actually happens here, even if this Sealsdramon was indeed acting alone, it still means the rest of the D-Brigade exists in the Digital World, and if word reaches them that one of their assassins was killed by GulusGammamon, they will see him as a threat that needs to die.

Speaking of, GulusGammamon. I thought he'd be a mindless berserker, but it's actually more disturbing that he seems to retain his reason, but is just much crueler and twisted. And the way he tries to force Hiro to say his attack name before just doing it himself and impaling Sealsdramon... It's haunting to think that this isn't him Brainwashed and Crazy or some Superpowered Evil Side, that this is just Gammamon embracing his inner darkness, his future as Clockmon demonstrated, who Gammamon becomes if pushed far enough... that this is just who Gammamon naturally is. And that the reason he turned back to Gammamon wasn't because he "snapped out of it", but because of Amnesciac Dissonance. He just doesn't remember what he did.

And of course, our last topic: the Mysterious Watcher that is BlackAgumon. Just who is he? And what is doing watching over the group? Is it connected to GulusGammamon and in turn perhaps the truth behind who Gammamon really is?

Anyway, our first truly dark episode. The other episodes were horror themed, but they still had hints of comedy in them. This was mainly serious and dark. Fitting considering who appeared. Next time though, it's a trip to the hot springs as the Monster of the Week appears to be Koemon.

Wow. This episode was a hell of a thing.

Like, move over Skullgreymon, Blue Metal Greymon, Megidramon, Vritramon, and Black Shine Greymon, cause Gulus Gammamon has arrived, and he's retroactively stolen the whole fucking show!

RIP Bokomon.

Makes you wonder how much Hokuto really knew. He may well have sent Gammamon to Hiro in hopes that GulusGammamon wouldn't reassert himself permanently.

This was a major change compared to all the other previous Dark Evolutions. Most of the others resembled more rabid animals, just attacking and tearing apart whatever it's near. Gulusgammamon, on the other hand... Dude's just evil. Like, as if one of the kids got Myotismon or Piedmon as a partner. Even the way Sealsdramon was killed was as if he was killing a bug. Hiro better start thinking about what to do with that, or else it'll keep getting uglier.

Bokomon's death hit hard. He didn't even get to say anything before going.

I know right.

In twenty years, we've never had an Dark evolution like that one. That's some scary shit...and fitting for this series, that's been leaning hard into the horror aspect.

In a bit of spoiled by the format (I guess this counts) Gammamon only has one ultimate/perfect form and its a non-dark digivolution so presumably Gulus becomes a solved issue. Personally I think he deserves a mega for each of his champion forms but w/e.

[up][up] Makes you wish Gammamon gets popular like Agumon to have several Perfect and Mega options, or that he got a full tree at once like Pulsemon did.

I always have this feeling that Gammamon is meant to have a full multiple lines like Pulsemon. Canoweissmon is a fitting Ultimate for BetelGammamon, but other than both being flying creature, it doesn't really fit KausGammamon, and it has absolutely nothing in common with WezenGammamon and GulusGammamon, which to me, implies that Kaus, Wezen, and Gulus are supposed to have their own Ultimate, and probably their own Mega as well.

[up]I always took Canoweissmon as being the composite of all of Gammamon's Adult forms. The red secondary coloration and fire from BetelGammamon, the wings and speed from KausGammamon, the armor and light energy from WezenGammamon, and the claws and dark energy from GulusGammamon. That thematically it would come when Gammamon was able to reconcile his personality with that of GulusGammamon's darkness, and when he learned to access all of his powers rather than draw on specific niches for each Adult.

If Digimon Ghost Game ever got an English dub, who do you think could be good casting choices?

For some strange reason, I feel like Zach Hadel (psychicpebbles) would fit as Angoramon. Maybe because I could imagine Angoramon sounding like Charlie from Smiling Friends.

I could also see Zach Aguilar work as Hiro. I just think he fits in that regard

That was a very good dark evolution. The whole sequence was fantastic. Having Gulus Gammamon become more intelligent instead of a raging beast is a stark contrast to the classic set-up.

The choices shown are... interesting to say the least.

  • Canoweissmon: Commonality is "Robot Dinosaur"
    • Aegisdramon
    • Chaosdramon
    • UltimateBrachiomon
  • Thetismon: Commonality is "Aquatic"
    • AncientMermaimon
    • MarinAngemon
    • Pukumon
  • Lamortmon: Commonality is "Beast"
    • Anubimon
    • Griffomon
    • SaberLeomon
Yeah, I don't think any of these are gonna be their final forms.

Nice episode today, nothing serious happened, which is good as a break after the extremely serious episode last week. About the biggest thing from the episode was the kids getting new Dim Cards for new pseudo digital world areas, which means more environment advantage depending on their current enemy. While I'm not entirely sure what the other two Dim Cards are, I'm very sure the one Hiro used is referencing Titan of Dust, the Dim Card that has Sunalizamon debuting in it, hence all the sands. Same color of Dim Card too.

That was a rather adorable episode. The parallels between Koemon's granny and Bokomon were rather blatant, which is why it was a little jarring with the reveal that there was a letter suggesting Granny is still alive, but it still works. Koemon being just this little kid desperate to play with someone again was endearing overall. Though I am curious as to how he suddenly materialized at the end, and how the Granny was able to see him when no one else could. I'm also worried for him, since as prior episodes established, being on his own out there could leave him vulnerable to Digimon like Dracmon or Sealsdramon, and he really is just a little kid like Gammamon.

Anyway, next time it would seem we're going for a Recycled Script from Young Hunters of all places, as our Monster of the Week looks to be Phelesmon.

[up] He probably materialized due to his feelings during that moment, iirc Bokomon mentioned feeling being an important part in materializing. But yeah, it's peculiar that the granny was able to see Monmon without any help when no one else could. Is there a belief in Japan that says elders are more attuned to spiritual stuff like this? Also the letter thing is a bit weird in another way: Monmon has picked up the ball before, to prank others before Hiro's plan to attract Monmon by having Ruli pick up the ball. Surely Monmon should have been the first to notice the letter there?
