There She Goes is a brilliant Continuation Fic for Silent Hill 2.

I liked it better when Questionable Casting was called WTH Casting Agency

Someone already mentioned DOUBLE K. And yes, you do have to spell it with all caps. Because it is awesome.

I keep coming back to Luna's Hubby over and over again. It's silly, but very well-written. Realizations is also excellent, but it's been ages since it updated.

Outside of Harry Potter fanfic, Team 8 would also be high on my list. Also, in the Dresden-verse, the Broken Mirror, Wrong Place Wrong Time, Broken Spirit, Broken Chains, and Broken Circle series (I don't think there's a name for the collection of stories yet) is also excellent, although it kind of falls into that "you'd be surprised to realize it wasn't Jim Butcher writing it" area of so good that it no longer feels like a fanwork.

This Doctor Who fic called A Life with Rose. It's a Series 3 AU which actually manages to be better than the real Series 3, and not just for the Ten/Rose shippers.

Looking for some stories?

I haven't read too much fanfic, but there is an Eva-fic called...

The Second Try: The grammar and spelling leave a little to be desired, but as it's a non-native English speaker writing it I give it a pass on that. The actual writing is just... really, really good. And the author tries really hard to not write anything out of character... though this being Eva, "out of character" is probably somewhat subjective.

Also: if you're not an Asuka/Shinji fan, you probably won't like it. tongue

Thirding (fourthing?) Team8 and S'Tarkan's other masterpiece, Harry Potter And The Nightmares Of Futures Past.

And yeah, I agree that huge fandoms have more excellent fics, purely because they attract so many fics to begin with.

[up] I didn't think I'd ever get into HP fanfic, but that's a really good one.

As far as Eva Peggy Sue fics go, that one and Once More with Feeling are the best I've come across.

Speaking of MLP/Fallout, what is the weirdest well written crossover you have ever read? Like Harold And The Purple Crayon / Team Fortress? (That would be awesome.)

For well done intentional funny?: Gurren Jesus

While Thirty Hs is grand beyond belief, it looses to Gurren Jesus on the basis on that it has no following plot (Not to say that it ISN'T funnier because of the Kudzu Plot, it just looses marks on that fact). Gurren Jesus is just one of those rediculous fanfics done for laughs, but the way the presented is very well done. It has limits to it's own Audacity, which I find clever. Other Parodies I find funny are "The International Academy of Hetalia Fanfiction" and "Buttsex: The Musical"

Well written? Team8

Paradise Lost. tongue

If I don't wanna be a pretentious dipshit, though, End of the Line (Harry Potter) and Where Fires Begin (WALL-E) are both excellent. S'Tar'Kan's stuff, whilst pretty good, loses points for weak villains, lack of subtlety, and a tendency to wall-of-text. His chapters can be very exhausting to get through, second only to Shinji and Warhammer 40K in my experience.

Paradigm of Uncertainty is the fic that first convinced me ten years ago that fanfic could be as good as profic, and although it hasn't aged well in some respects it and its sequels are as well written as ever.

I haven't read most of what's here, but I'm going to give Blue Sky a resounding oh my god yes. Just...I have a weakness for similes. And OCs that make me believe them and take a good few chapters to go "hang on, these are OCs in a fanfic, shouldn't I have been complaining about them hours ago?" And the world. And very much the dialogue.

I'm planning on reading Methods of Rationality soon, when I have the time. I'm a pretty big fan of Slightly Different A Us — if you change one detail, how does the entire story change? — so it looks like something I might like.

[up]OK, I'll warn you right now - it's not 'slightly different'. Yudkowsky made a lot of tweaks to the setting, at least one of which (the whole business with the Dementors) seemed to have more to do with the author's personal issues than anything else. It's an Author Tract first and foremost, and everything else becomes entirely flexible to accommodate that.

I recall Something Borrowwed, Something Blue from years ago. SW:TPM fanfic. Pretty well done, had some real good humor in it, too.

There might have been others that were better, but for some reason I remember this one from over a decade ago.

Tough choice between Free Radical [System Shock] and Arddun Lleuad/Chwe Goleadau [My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic]. Both of these deserve to be published on paper.

Past Sins [My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic] is a runner-up, but loses points for occasional rougher prose.

Oh! I almost forgot: for Homestuck, everything by dellaluce! A freakin' poet, and she deserves to have her collected works published someday.

No Antidote. A Pokemon Song Fic in which all the main characters are OCs. Well-written, engaging the whole way through, remarkable chemistry between the characters. If there is such a thing as a perfect fanfic, this would be it.
