Kid Icarus Uprising

Helps that Nintendo seems to have hired actual voice actors this time. If what I'm hearing is correct, that's Johnny Yong Bosch and Tara Strong as Pit and Palutena, respectively, am I right?

That's what I've been inclined to believe, although I'm not sure if there's a confirmation source out there.

Damn, the dialogue is hilarious! I think I'm getting the game now, though I hope it will be usable with the add-on since I'm left-handed.

Yeah, apparently the game's controls didn't have us lefties in mind. Maybe by the time the game is out, they'll have customizable control schemes (because what modern game doesn't give you that option?).

There appears to be a time limit for Land Battle, as well, but that may just be the demo...

Also, the game kinda looks and sounds a bit like a Sillier And Funnier God Of War game by far.

I assume the dialog is NOT a Gag Dub for multiple reasons.

One, is Masahiro Sakurai as the director. Consider he made Kirby Super Star, Kirby's Adventure, Super Smash Bros and Meteos. The story mode of Meteos had multiple silly endings, if you'll recall, and the running dialog from the villains in Revenge of Metaknight in Kirby Super Star was also silly. Humor and light-hearted elements are this man's style.

Two, is if you noticed in one of the videos of the first chapter from Gamescom 2011, when Medusa' resurrection is mentioned, a screenshot of the original NES version is shown on the bottom screen to illustrate. Seriously. That can't be a matter of intentional mistranslation, since someone had to make that graphic and have it show up there.

So I'm convinced that this is no Gag Dub, but the game intentionally being silly.

I wonder how they're going to handle the weapons. There seem to be a ton of them...

I imagine we'll start off with three (like sword, bow, and claw or something like that) and unlock the rest of them as we go along...

It's a tutorial trailer, where Palutena explains the game's controls to Pit.

And lots of jokes are made. Within the first minute of conversation, she basically says "You used to be so weak, not too long ago" and it's accompanied by a clip of the first Kid Icarus game, with Pit dying to a Grim Reaper. Pit says "I thought we agreed to not talk about that anymore."

When dashing is explained to use the "smash to dash" principle, Pit immediately equates it to dashing in Super Smash Bros, and they very nearly play a round of Brawl (Pit: "Mario! I'll be Mario!") before Pit decides that they have no time for that.

And so on.

And of course, Palutena picks Kirby. Sakurai, you sly Twinbellows.

Although, of course, it's all in Japanese so I'm not sure what any of them do...here are a few of the weapons.

Question: Why the hell was I not excited for this game again?

Answer: Because Medusa's sexiness distracted you from this game's cool factor?

Rebuttal: I guess I didn't want to hype myself into disappointment. Oh, and Medusa does looks so much better than she did 25 years ago.

This is going on my 3DS wish list now.

Well, the implication is that Medusa originally looked like that before Palutena cursed her. Being killed by Pit caused Medusa to begin to revert to her true form.

One of the reasons I am glad to own a 3DS. BUT WHY MUST ALL THE MONEY TAKING HAPPEN IN 2012?!

Oh god. The lines in this game are just so cheesy that I could die from oxygen deprivation.

It's kinda interesting, the Kid Icarus series was intended to be the Sister Series to the Metroid games originally. It seems that, while Metroid takes things seriously. Kid Icarus is silly, humourous and Fourth Wall painting. The Id to Metroid's Superego if one was to say.

Besdies. When Pit talks, his lines are intentionally hilarious.

It's kinda like the anti-Other M, if anything.

But, yes, the lines are hilarious. It's self-parody as an artform.

"TAKE THAT... WALL!" has to be one of my favourites, as well as "ALL... THIS... G-FORCE...IN...MY...FAAAACEEE!"

God this game is so corny, I just love it.

"He can fly!?"
"I think the only one who can't fly by himself around here is you, Pit."

"Pit, I'm sensing some treasure to your left"
"How can you do that?"
"Through your laurel crown, I can divine what is going on around you."
"Whoa, really?"
"Yes. And that's not all I can see. I can also see what's in your heart!"
"Oh, umm."
"So don't be thinking about anything... naughty."
"Wha- how did you kn-"
"I'm just kidding, Pit! Seriously, heart-reading laurel crowns?"

That last one was paraphrased like crazy, but it was one of my favorite exchanges.

I'm actually redownloading Nintendo Video just to watch those shorts.

If they come out with a proper Capture Card for the 3DS, should I post them on You Tube?

I think Nintendo themselves might upload the shorts to promote the game, and if not, lots of people will be uploading the videos themselves. But I say go ahead if you want to add your own copies of the videos to You Tube.

Palutena is such a Troll to Pit, it's funny.

I think she and Princess Celestia would get along well.
