1) Lesson on bigotry
2) Big name cast
3) Fart jokes
Third one is not that common.
Oh, I kinda forgot, but Shark Tale also has a character who looks scary but is actually friendly, with Lenny the shark.
On a tangential note, it's quite interesting how different the anthropomorphic sharks in Shark Tale and The Bad Guys are. Don Lino, Lenny and Frankie have piscine bodies but humanoid faces (looking very much like their voice actors), whereas Mr. Shark has a humanoid body but a more animal-like (though rather cartoony) face.

Don't forget - bees.
It took them nearly 2 decades but they finally made a good movie featuring a shark.
Michael Jackson doesn't always wear one glove. That doesn't mean he isn't well-known for that.

Since when is Dreamworks well known for fart jokes, though? I thought they were well known for characters smirking on the posters and stuff.
They had like the fart gun in Despicable Me and that's all that comes to mind
New theme music also a box...that's a different studio.
Yeah, Illumination tends to be a lot more lowbrow. Which feels weird to say.
But yeah, Shrek is known for that stuff, and some of their less well liked movies have stuff like that, but the majority of their catalogue doesn't really have anything like that.
It's like saying that Michael Jackson is known for singing with Rockwell and Eddie Murphy. It happened, but it's not really a defined or consistent part of his discography.
Not Three Laws compliant.Dang it!
For some reason Dreamworks and Illumination blurred together in my head

New theme music also a boxProbably because both are owned by Universal. Which isn't doing DreamWorks any favors, imo.
You keep using the term "POV". I do not think it means what you think it means.Right, that makes a ton of sense actually
New theme music also a box> Kung Fu Panda is racist.
It's not,this is outright false
> Shark Tale and The Bee Movie is the only good films as it has funny people.

New theme music also a boxDon't come into threads just to complain, please.
Macron's notesAnyways, uh...
Does anyone think Dreamworks will change their animation style even more after The Bad Guys? I kind of want to see them get more adventurous.
I thought the same thing for a moment.
I smell magic in the air. Or maybe barbecue.I don't doubt it. Animated films have really experimented a lot in the past five years or so. Dreamworks seems to be aiming for more varied art-styles in the future, as seen with Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and given the success of The Bad Guys, I can expect more of that going forward.

I see the artstyle evolving when they're doing sequels but it won't be too adventurous but it will remain familiar
New theme music also a boxFrom an interview with the director of The Bad Guys, it really does seem that Spider-Verse became a much-needed shot in the arm for the American animation industry. Pixar has been experimenting with a looser style with Luca and especially Turning Red, and there's some obvious anime influence in The Bad Guys that looks straight out of Lupin III. More people seem to be realizing that going for stylized and less-realistic 3D animation is a good thing.
Some people might see this as cashing in, but it's really the kind of thing Dreamworks needs to rebuild their critical reputation.
So, the bizarre list on top was inaccurate, I see.
Are people still posting "Bee Movie" memes like speeding up the movie every time the word "bee" is mentioned in the script?
Trans rights are human rights. TV Tropes is not a place for bigotry, cruelty, or dickishness, no matter who or their position.Spider-Verse and Hotel Transylvania have probably been the two biggest shots to the industry's arms in recent years,I say this even though I've never really paid much attention to the transylvania franchise, hell even spiderverse may have been influenced by said movie

New theme music also a boxHotel Transylvania has a quirky and interesting animation style, but I don't think it really got that much attention behind the scenes overall. Like, less "oh my god, this is amazing" and more "oh wow, Tartakovsky's style does work in CGI. Huh." It's kind of interesting, because it wasn't really a technological leap, it was just stuff being used slightly different from normal.
But I think the big change was the various studios realizing that stylization can help create an identity. Spider-Verse and the Mitchells vs the Machines both used the same techniques, but they look radically different and it's dead easy to tell what thing is from which movie.
