I've Got My Mind Made Up by Donnie Mc Clurkin.

I don't usually listen to Gospel music.

I don't have "guilty pleasure" songs, because fuck feeling guilty about what kind of music you like, but I like Christina Perri's "Jar of Hearts" more than any self-respecting metalhead has any business liking it.tongue

Somehow you know that the time is right.

[up][up]I actually legitimately like how that song plays out. They have an odd sort of chemistry in it that really works well and, unlike a LOT of duets in recent years, they actually have some sort of interaction with each other within the song rather than just trading off verses. It's just a really well-done song, and very well produced as well (though, to be fair, it's Timbaland, who really knows how to produce a solid beat).

Insert witty and clever quip here. My page, as the database hates my handle.

There's also this one David Guetta song that plays out like "Promiscuous" Part Two called "I Just Wanna F". However, I can't find good audio for it.

The Beach Boys - "Kokomo". I like the Beach Boys, but this is the biggest hit from a Dork Age, the production just screams "late 80's easy listening", and the lyrics are pretty dopey *

. But on the other hand it's catchy and I remember it being omnipresent when my family took a roadtrip one summer when I was 9 or so, so it's kind of nostalgic.

Jessie J - "Domino". I kept hearing this at my place of work every day for like a week, so I feel like there's some sort of musical Stockholm Syndrome going on. But it's meant to be a silly, fun pop song and succeeds on that level. However, I still like to make fun of how she sort of sounds like a chipmunk in the verses, and the fact that the opening couplet is "I'm feeling sexy and free / like glitter's raining on me" *

.

Not that I look to the Beach Boys for great lyrics to begin with
Do yourself a favor: Listen to their non-surf-related songs and Pet Sounds, then come back and tell me they didn't have great lyrics. Hell, even just listen to "In My Room":
Turning the simple sentiment of wanting to be alone into a sanctuary, a hideaway, a respite from the world...it's pretty damn effective and pretty damn good writing if you ask me.

[up] Yeah, after saying that, I remembered how much I like the lyrics on Pet Sounds... generally they're pretty simple, but in a timeless way. I've heard scattered non-singles here and there, but I've mainly only heard Pet Sounds and one Greatest Hits Album, and I sort of had much of the latter in mind when writing that. So I rescind that part of my post I guess.

Understandable. Most people's minds immediately drift to "Fun, Fun, Fun" or "Surfin' USA" when it comes to the Beach Boys anyway.

The Dollyrots, full stop. Normally I'm not a fan of girl pop punk, but it's so good and so charming, I don't much care.

Because I'm Awesome and Just Like Chocolate are my favorites.

There's just something about the beat and chorus that just works despite how absolutely stupid the lyrics are.

Orianthi. Just...Orianthi.

Also a bit of The Cult. For some reason I find them much more enjoyable than a lot of other cheesy glam/hair metal-ish bands.

Lately, I've spent an unseemly amount of time grooving to old Triumph and Asia albums. But it's starting to get worse ... yesterday, I even put on GTR. I'm beginning to worry that before long, I'll wake up one morning with feathered hair.

This:

It's cheesy as hell and the singer has a stupid-ass voice, but it's actually got really good lyrics and it's very catchy.

[up]393: "Like a G6" has a beat and chorus? I thought it just droned the same note 9 billion times.

My guilty pleasures:

"Bob That Head" by Rascal Flatts (the opening's a total Jump Scare though). Actually, come to think of it, a lot of Rascal Flatts' output. They had a lot of sucky songs from 2006-2011 though — too many bland lyricsnote , bombastic production, and gratingly squealing vocals, but sometimes their songs worked anyway.

As I said earlier, "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" by Taylor Swift (kind of stupid lyrics, especially for her, but it's insanely catchy)

"God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" by Alabama and N Sync. Yes, this really happened — a boy band collaborated with a slowly-fading country music supergroup. Alabama is way too old for the subject matter, but Randy Owen of Alabama is a great vocalist, and I like the higher end that 'N Sync adds to the harmonies.

"Watermelon Crawl" by Tracy Byrd. I hated, hated this song when I was 7, but now I laugh at how I could've thought it was the worst thing ever. It's still a stupid line-dance novelty song, but it takes me back to when I was 7, running out of the room screaming whenever it came up on TNN.

Also agree with those who said "Party Rock Anthem". There were about 40 billion party anthems out that year, but at least I remember that one. (Funny how now, in 2013, country is the genre where everyone wants to party all the time…)

My sister was listening to some Nickelback a while back, and she told me "Don't tell ANYONE that I listen to Nickelback." She also listens to Green Day unironically.

Wait, what the hell. How did that song go there? I meant to link an entirely different one. EDIT: And now it's working fine. The hell?

Anyway, I'd say Nickelback and Greenday but they aren't guilty in the least.

Did I say Florida Georgia Line as a guilty pleasure yet? If not, then I'll say it. If so, then I'll say it again.

Their music is the reason we have so much "bro" country about hot girls drinking beer on tailgates, but I just can't in good faith dislike any of their songs. They're incredibly nice guys and they sound like they're having fun doing what they do. Sometimes that's really all you need.
